I've had severe TMJ since I was a a child and Botox (Actually Xeomin) is the only thing that has helped. It's literally been life changing! My clenching was so bad that I destroyed my baby teeth before my adult teeth even came in, and by the time I was 30 I had done the same to my adult teeth. Bite splits (I had more than a dozen over the years, crowns, bite adjustments, TENS therapy, etc. Nothing worked. I ended up having to have my entire smile reconstructed with crowns and implants and even after all of that I still clenched!
In the last 5 years I have had 3 Xeomin treatments and for the first time in my life my facial muscles are not tense 24/7, my jaw doesn't hurt, it no longer clicks and pops and all of my dental work is holding up well. The first treatment helped, but it wasn't until the second treatment (About 9 months after) that I received near total symptom relief. For me the effects of the treatments last longer after each one, and I'm currently 1.5 years from my last round and am just now noticing some tension.

Do you still wear the splint now even with Botox?

@@joannenicole1430 No, I have not had to wear one since about a year after my first Xeomin treatment. Also, It's been well over 2 years now since my last treatment and I still don't clench. Sadly, I just found out the other day that the dentist who does my treatments recently retired and moved out West to start a cattle ranch. 😅 I'm ok now and with luck, I won't need more treatments in the future, but just in case I'm already in the process of looking for a new provider.
I will say, if you do try Botox or Xeomin I'd highly recommend having it done by a dentist, and preferably one that is experienced in using it for TMJ (Most dentists that list Botox treatments do so as cosmetic service, and the two applications are totally different). I'm not sure of the exact amount he applied, but I know he started low and worked his way higher with each treatment. The reasoning for that is there is a possibility of adverse effects including weakening the muscles too much, hence the reason to work with someone that is familiar with the application and not just price shop.
I can't promise you that Botox/Xeomin will work for you, but it's honestly the best treatment decision I ever made in regards to my dental issues (And I've had ALOT of dental issues over the years 😬)

I'm hoping this is my experience I've had chiropractor treatment, pyshio, multiple different Mouthguards hard and soft no help, wisdom teeth removed has multiple x-rays all show normal and even an MRI which also showed no bad things to warrant jaw joint surgery I've had dental bonding on all my teeth to help my bite aswell and I'm still struggling on my third Botox treatments now fro m the oral surgeon at my local hospital I had a lot of swelling for weeks after I could barely open my mouth on the left without my joints hurting the oral surgeon inspected me and said it was normal Healing process and told me to continue my custom splint and wait for the Botox to work it has kicked in I'm past few days now 4 weeks after the injections it csn take some time to do anything but literally 3 times I've had it and it took the third treatment to notice any difference at all I was close to giving up and the surgeon persuaded me to continue with it and it's free on the NHS in the UK after having all the other treatments I'd all but given up after spending thousands on different Mouthguards with no real benefits and even trying glucaoasmine and fish oil supplements which my GP redomened for the TMJ which helped slightly but not enough thank you for your story gives me hope that it can get better without surgery which in the UK they seem dead set against anyway the 3 different Maxifacial surgeons I have seen anyways and a specialist dentist who all advised against surgery and said stick with pyhsio and Mouthguards and At max Botox because all can be reversed where as surgery can't I suppose if it healed wrong or went wrong etc but yeh I had same issue with clenching teeth at night after an assault I didn't know how to stop it!

@@johnnyrambles I'm having 50 units next time I know I had 25 before each side and around the joint itself to loosen it up the surgeon told me thankfully I had it done by a top maxifacial surgeon not a dentist.

@@johnnyrambles I've had a lot of treatments too and seems only one that did anything for me too I'm just so glad it was covered by NHS because the ridiculous expensive splints and Mouthguard and chiropractor wasn't

I need this. I was around 20 years old when I started clenching while I slept. 15 years later I’m still doing it. My face muscles are always sore and my dentist constantly wants to sell me a very expensive mouth guard that wouldn’t do much but annoy me!

I have an NTI splint. I end up taking it out subconsciously during the night, every night, now I'm attempting Botox soon. Will continue to use the NTI Splint in conjunction with the botox. Shall see how it goes.
