How do I get TMJ to go away?

  • Do you ever wake up in the morning with soreness or stiffness in your jaw? You might have temporomandibular joint disorder - also known as TMJ.
    Your temporomandibular joint connects your jawbone to your skull. When this joint isn’t working well, it can cause pain. And if you clench or grind your teeth at night, you are likely making the problem worse.
    TMJ can occur due to overuse or an internal derangement, or displacement. If you have TMJ, you likely experience pain while eating, talking or yawning. You might even have ear symptoms, such as congestion or ringing in the ear. Additional signs of TMJ include clicking and popping in the jaw and a “locked” or tight jaw.
    If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, exercises can help. Nicole Norenberg and Julia Heyer, physical therapists at Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Centers, say a few simple exercises can help alleviate the pain and soreness often associated with TMJ.
    If the exercises do not relieve your symptoms, or you continue to have difficulty opening your jaw, talk with your primary care doctor about your concerns and referral to a physical therapist.

    I started doing TRE (tension trauma release exercises by David Berceli) 2 months ago for 10-15 mins daily and it seems to have stopped me grinding my teeth at night. I have had no TMJ/teeth pain for past 2 months. I had jaw surgery 25 years ago and I wear a hard night guard - but I was not able to stop the bruxism (which has resulted in 3 cracked teeth) until I discovered TRE. Highly recommend anyone suffering this to try it

      As someone who did it for 5-6+ years, yes. The sound is literally a displacement in your jaw… the more it happens, the more damage it does. Once I experienced full on lock jaw from doing it I started to stop, was so painful and scary.
      Now if I do it even just once, my jaw and whole side of my face will hurt for hours. Can’t open my mouth at all without it popping EXTREMELY loud. It’s so painful. Still trying to break the habit, I did it so often.

    I do not agree at all with the relaxation tips, I hear a lot of experts say this. But every once in a while I hear another one say just let your mouth hang open let gravity relax it. If you are keeping your mouth closed that is using muscles. And it your are putting your tongue to the roof of your mouth you are using muscles. My mouth does not feel relaxed at all doing these. Mine does feel relax when I just relax it and let gravity take over and keep a straight blank face.

    • @epicawesomecoolgirl6030
      @epicawesomecoolgirl6030 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      it does not feel relaxed as you're not used to it. the tongue should naturally rest at the roof of your ur mouth suctioned as it provides proper airway and may help with tmj as you're not clenching and can alleviate muscles.

The tooth im trying to take off is like, sonehow hooked aith another teeth, which makes it difficult to take off (up until now its still here) and i just woke up one random 12am in the morning. Flashing a light on my teeth near a mirror so i could examine my tooth, and i spent the rest of almost 30min trying to take it off.
