When I was 22 in early 90s I used paper maps to get to my delivery stops. I was very proficient at it. In 2017 I stepped back to a flip phone and during that time drove from South Jersey to Exeter Maine just using a map. I'd love to stick with it but need it for my IT job. A great idea to break the scrolling habit is to practice time-outs with your device using a timer. Make it longer time-outs each new week. Hey it's back to childhood discipline.
Your description of time wasted is a description of my mornings. My life on my iPhone, at my age, is pretty much a time waster, and a distraction. Thanks for your channel on minimalism, I find that concept is attractive to me, and we’d all be better off if we cut back on consumption.
I'm not going to lie. It was very difficult in the mornings not watching TH-cam as I go through my routine, but after the 3rd day it really didnt bother me much. Its tough at times but I am so much more productive now.
@@AKATheViking some of the issues I see with the "smart phones" is making a society where literally everything must be done with "smart phone" and no alternative, is highly problematic. It's not good for everything in society to have to go through Silicon Valley Wall Street billionaires. I'm actually surprised that America's small businesses have been putting up with it due to the billionaires stealing our data that is our private property. The way this has all been mishandled is no good
There is a phone coming out calling The Minimal phone. It's a phone that has an e-ink display so it's not made to be addicting but you can use the apps you need for your business. Great video by the way.
I actually pre-ordered 2 of them. I was one of the first to back the project. I believe they are starting to ship it on the 20th of this month. I plan to do a review on it once I get it.
I've recently stopped using social media altogether, and I've thought about switching to a dumb phone. The main reason I haven't is that I listen to a lot of music while working and driving, and I'd hate to lose access to that. Do you not listen to much music, or do you have another way around this issue?
Idk man. I really dont think having a regular cellphone instead of a smartphone solves your problem. I broke my smartphone in a fit of rage one time and used my old lg cellphone (proprietary headphones unfortunately no music)...and i had to visit a repair shop and a vet in the middle of nowhere to get some cat stuff sorted out. I had no maps at all so...i just grabbed a notebook and wrote down directions and sketched out approx path and wrote down company phone numbers. Followed it but still lost? Call em / ask a stranger. No music on the bus or subway ? Grab a newspaper. Like the time when we all lived like that and it was normal wasnt really that long ago its not some hidden ancient wisdom. You can easily pull all that off. It's not a magic ticket to fix whatever social media problems you might have. I barely talk to other people at all and im still miserable no matter what the hell im using because im an angry piece of... x)
I only use my smartphone now for my businesses. My main phone is the flip phone. I don't have any apps on my smartphone but the ones that are essential. The reason why I'm still using the flip phone is because I want to disconnect from work. I found myself working on things all night long. Now come 6pm, I put the smartphone in my desk and leave it there until morning.
I really like that phone. It's fun to slam it shut to end calls. For $90 it's a great phone. I think everyone would benefit from a digital detox once in a while.
People are too dependent on their smartphones, man. It's sad that we are becoming more lonely even though we are more "connected" than ever before. No one talks face to face anymore.

That's a great idea, too. A lot of people say just use willpower, but these apps are made to be addicting.

very relatable, i switched to dumb phone as well. Soon will try LP3
I pre-ordered the LP3 and the Mudita. I'm pretty excited to try them both.
Excellent video. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for your kind words!

Watch the video "I switched to a flip phone 4 years ago and so should you"

I actually carry a small MP3 player with me. It doesnt have bluetooth. Just a regular headphone jack. I prefer that more.

I agree.
your "dumbphone" has apps and a touch screen *heavy eye rolling*
The Nokia 2780 doesn't have a touch screen or social media apps. 🤔
Change your glasses, you'll look significantly better.
Thank you. I'll take that into consideration.
