Video Game Collector Goes Minimalist!
มุมมอง 6K5 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm an ex video game Collector that is setting off on my biggest adventure yet!
"Disco Mode" is called "Ghosting" and is normal for low refresh rates on Eink displays. You may have found a bug with opening youtube after sleeping the device, or it could be intentional as part of the design or wake up process.
Overprice.
Can this phone read and write in arabic characters?
what was your order number? Was it a Low, Mid, or High number? Trying to figure out the shipping order process
@maddmaxx636 It was in the 30s but I do know that some of the colors aren't out yet. It looks like the black ones are being shipped now.
you must have used hammer for the quick navigation, any fault with device?
I'm not sure what "hammer" is.
@@AKATheViking your finger in this case
I don't see why future phones shouldn't be able to take high res color images that display low res previews on the phone, and show their full res on a laptop
Low specs to make it cheaper. I was using a Nokia 2780 for a while until I switch to the Minimal Phone. When I took pictures with the Nokia, it looked terrible on the phone but it wasnt too bad when I sent it to another hi res device.
What I didn't like about Blackberry Q5 and Q10 aside no support for my language is that AFAIK comma was under special characters instead of separate button.
I agree the keyboard set up wasnt great. I had a Q5 for a few years.
Does it allow to uninstall default apps that come with Android like YT, Photos, and etc.. The perfect minimalism for me is an android phone with Gmail, Calender, calls, SMS, Settings and Clock it seems...
I just tried and from what I can tell, it will let you delete the some of the apps like YT but the Photos apps it will not let you.
Well Nokia I guess now you can bring back the Asha series 😂
I'd be all for that!
$500? While it looks cool, that is a bit too much IMO
I think $400 is a fair price for it but I agree with you. $500 is a bit too much for it.
Cool
does it work on AT&T?
@tareqyounis6472 I have been testing it with T-Mobile and AT&T. It works with AT&T, but the only issue is that to make a call, I have to put it in airplane mode first, then turn it off before calling. Income, browser, and sending texts all work great.
I would get it if it had color camera and video recording.
It records in color but displays in black and white because of the e-ink display. In my 30 day review of the phone, I'll show the picture and video quality when its sent to another device. Its far from Samsung and iPhone standards but its not too bad.
Hearing you call the Shift key the “arrow” key caused me physical pain. Other than that cool video, don’t think this one is for me but it’s an interesting idea.
lol yeah sorry about that. I had the flu when I recorded the video. I didnt even notice I did it until you said something.
That is a good-looking phone! I miss a full physical keyboard.
Its so nice having a keyboard again. Its like having a Nokia E62 again. I loved that phone.
Are you still using the phone? Even with the issues?
I am still using the phone. I want to give an honest 30 day review of the phone. I'll show the good and the bad.
Have they done any updates?
From what I hear, there will be an update that will resolve some of the issues coming the middle of this month. I'm looking forward to it.
It could be a really good phone if they fix the issues it has... I'd order one once it's fixed.
An update is coming soon that should be fixing some of the issues.
They sold you a prototype.
It is a work in progress.
You can get BB Q10 or Classic for much less, if you want a minimalist kinda dumb phone, those are better than this. I like the design but rest doesn't for a second justify the asking price.
BBs are great but they no longer receive security or software updated, sadly. For a lot of people, thats a concern. I'd still be using my Key2 if it wasnt for that.
How does typing with it feel? Are the buttons easy to press so that you can actually type fast (thinking about Nokia E72 which was great for typing) even if the screen doesn't update that fast?
Typing feels really good on it. I noticed that at times it will not register that you hit a key if you are typing fast. I think its just the fact that you have to hit the keys a little harder.
Not bad! I’m interested 👍🏻 Looks like a good device for digital detox.
It will reduce endless scrolling, for sure!
Yea that phone sucks my atari 2600 responds way better. Should have not even wasted posting this junk
Its actually a good phone once they fix a few issues with it.
Pricey toy. Minimal phone is easy to do on Android. The future is voice dictation. Keyboards died with the touchscreen. Bluetooth keyboards abound for that application. Stupid product.
A lot of people prefer a keyboard.
Simple doesn't have to mean poor performance. Especially at 400 bucks. My Samsung A15 was only 159 bucks and looks like it works so much smoother. Not sure why they made this phone
A lot of people wanted a physical keyboard and an e-ink display. For a start up company, the phone turned out better than I thought. They already have an update ready to be pushed out to fix a lot of the issues.
Selling units that clearly aren't ready! No thanks! 💯
Its a start up company with their first phone. It actually had less issues than I thought it would. They have an update ready to be pushed out to resolve a lot of the issues.
How much does it weigh
I'm buying this one day so that I can actually use my phone as a book. Can't read on any kind of screen. I can also use this to write with having a physical kb.
I cant read on a normal phone screen either, but as of 2 days ago, I tried on this phone and it seems to be working out pretty well. Though I prefer to read a physical, this is nice to read on if I'm out and didnt bring my book with me.
Hisense A9 is still the kink of eink smartphones
Ive always wanted to try the A9. I hope they come out with a new updated one at some point.
I wish there was a new iteration of yota phones (e-ink on one side and an ips on another) so you could switch between them anytime. That one is meh tbh.
"disco mode" is standard for e-ink screens. the lack of disco mode in faster refresh settings is a feature. when you play videos and open the camera, it probably switches to faster refresh automagically, and when toggling the screen off and back on it probably changes the mode back to the default (whatever you set).
I noticed that I have to switch a lot between "Slow" and "Ultra" mode. I normally keep it on "Ultra" unless I need to read something with more detail.
I would buy it but it will be about $700usd for the $500usd model to get here in Canada due to the tariffs plus sales taxes and I sure as hell can’t afford that in this economy
It gets shipped right from China so the tariffs will not effect your price.
Why would anyone spend 400 dollars on this? There’s plenty of basic phones on the market for under 100 dollars. I’d be interested around that price point, but no way for 400 dollars.
Its a niche thing. People spend $1000+ for Samsung phones and iPhones which is mind blowing as well.
"Minimal Phone" > Looks inside > Runs Android > MFW
I don't think normal people will have the complications that you have using this phone.
I really hope not. I next batches should be updated and the issues resolved.
You really seem to be struggling with this. Have you not used a smartphone before?
Whats a smartphone?
You have to hold the shift key down to get an uppercase letter? That's crazy.
This thing looked so much better when I backed back in march. Had a rounder slimmer look and no ugly chin or fat margins. This performance looks painful too. I'll be surprised if my sim card stays in this for more than a week. Hoping it at the very least is a decent pocket ereader/note taker.
Upload more video please, like if it got some software updates, Spotify etc... thankyou
Well, with such a width, why make it so long and the frames are thick... Nokia E63 is an example for you.
I was a big fan of the Nokia E62. It was one of my favorite phones growing up. When the Minimal Phone was first shown, it looked exactly like the E62 but with bigger bezels. They changed it because modern apps and pages wouldn't load properly on it because of how small the screen would have been.
@@AKATheViking Yes, alas, time has passed, now you just read the news and don’t feel any special desires.
@@AKATheViking In 2014 I used the BB Q10, it evoked nostalgia and delight from the quality and experience of compactness, sound and vibration like an adult device. Where has the convenience gone...
what kind of feeling have the phone is it a gripy soft texture or is it slippery? thanks for the first thoughts. Greetings from austria
@AlexanderSachan it is a grip soft texture. I like the texture. I'm glad they didn't choose Glossy.
Tip for people who want to try black and white screen experience: you can enable it on any android phone in developer settings > anomaly imitation > monochrome
Hmm, seems like it would be a pretty solid secondary phone if I'm trying to simplify my life for a short period of time. And if I like it enough, maybe I'll just stick to it permanently.
What appears to be the biggest drawback for me is physical keyboard being in a perfect layout. Every physical and digital keyboard I've used has that stagger between the rows. Not sure I could every comfortably adjust to anything else.
I want a non-minimalist version of this phone. 😬
It should be little bit smaller and slimmer.
How are you liking it?
Awesome video! I want to try and get my hands on one soon!
In 1985 I would have liked it. I'd love a physical keyboard, but a smartphone doesn't make sense in combination with e-ink screens. A big tablet with good screen ratio yes, it would be great for sheet music and as a reader.
So exactly what is minimal about it other than the eink screen?
It’s performance
