- 2017 Polaris Sportsman 570 SP 1 year of riding, 1100 mile review. How the Polaris held up for 1100 miles of riding and some items we like and may dislike a bit. Would we buy the Sportsman 570 SP again

Like your review. I've been riding a 2000 scrambler 500 for 18 years and I can say I've had no problem with power so I bet that 570 is even better. Just upgraded to 2018 scrambler 850 can't wait to get back to Black mountain.
Black mountain is a great place to have some fun on the Scrambler!

I used to think polaris was all junk. But then we bought my wife a sportsman 850 sp eps a year and half ago and we absolutely love it! We have about 800-900 miles on it, mountain trails mainly. Been through rocks, hills, water, mud and so far its just motoring right along. I have a Yamaha grizzly 700 and love it too, but hers has 30 more HP and you sit lower in the seat which makes it a very stable machine, much more stable than my grizzly which will roll on you in corners if you aren't careful. We take care of our machines too, we are not mudders, but we do have to go through some in the mountains. We always wash our machines when we get home and I grease all the zerks about every few hunderd miles or when we start hearing a squeak in the suspension system. I used to say I"d never own a Polaris (without ever owning one) but now I'd buy another one without hesitation. Nice looking machine brother! Ya'll keep on riding!
We have no real loyalty to one brand or another so are just trying to put out there what our experience has been. So far has been very good and can't really complain

i bought a 2018 model back in november. i put almost 1200 km on it before i had to put it up for winter. they are great bikes, only problem ive had is one of the tires goes flat all the time, but thats my fault because i found a nail in my shed with my tire. Im planning on putting some 27 inch maxxis zillas on it the summer along with a light bar. Im in love with these bikes

SXS maybe someday but not ready just yet. They are a lot of fun just not ready to give up the tighter trails

great looking quad. looking at the 570, 850 and 1000. primary use is to plow snow. people were telling me you really only need the 570. buddy also has the 570 and told i would be impressed with just how much work the 570 can do

1100 Miles in one season.. Not bad!!!!! Polaris always has great rebates... Engine braking seems to be aggressive on all Sportsmans... Great video!
Been a good year of riding and really overall adventuring around to new places. The riding is a good time for sure but also the checking out area's you normally wouldn't has been just as fun if not more.
i hit 4850 miles on my base 2018 570 it took me 10 months 327 hours .. just replaced a battery and brake pads and i barely smoked the belt last week it was my fault i wanted to do a burnout on the street but other than that it has been a great machine

Sportsman 450s are smaller...Also, the stock battery is vented garbage, not so smart to mud with it until you get a proper sealed unit, fantastic video and review btw!

I have the 2017 sportsman 570 W/ EPS ( non SP) and I actually put it up for sale due to the excessive engine braking(Wife hated it)! I jumped the gun before selling the 17 bought her a 2018 Sportsman SP 570 mainly due to Polaris fixing the excessive engine braking for the 2018 model year. They claim 30% reduction in engine braking and after the test ride that would be correct! I ended up getting her the 570 SP in Blue. I didn't sell the 2017 570 and ended up giving it to my older son( early birthday gift) :-) Coming off a 2011 Kymco MXU 375 he was very happy! Good review by the way, hopefully I have no issues with my 2017 850 SP, 2017 570 EPS and now 2018 570 SP ! My younger son drives a 2007 Polaris Hawkeye 300 4WD, so far so good with that one too :-) Happy trail riding !
She felt the same way with the engine braking on the first couple of rides. After she got used to the braking she ended up liking it, you kinda get used to it and next to never need your brakes even on hills. So far the quality of this machine has been excellent, I do think a 850 is in the future as an upgrade on this one. She rode a 250 for years and now a 570 she wants an 850 now, lol.
Yes, my wife wants an 850 as well! I would like to move up to a 1000 XP like yours and let my wife have my 850. The 850 is smoother running and with the updated, narrower seat,more comfortable to ride. With her being only 4' 11" the narrow seat makes a difference. With the engine braking, my wife really never could get use to it. If you ever get the opportunity to ride an 18' or newer you will be pleasantly surprised, it really does make a big difference! Much more smooth and easier to modulate :-) I wonder if Polaris offers a mod to bring the older 570's to the new spec??
@@MrJeffyb69 would be a good question about bringing to new engine braking spec. The 850/1000 are a bit smoother and overall more comfortable, she also wants a touch of the excitement factor when you get into a more open space and can give it a little gas.
What's the difference for SP and non SP? Really thinking about getting a Polaris sportsman 850
SP has the "automotive painted plastics" (metallic) and the non SP is just colored plastics. The SP has the double A-arm front suspension vs the MacPherson strut style front end on the non SP, which after riding them back to back the SP double A-arm is better than the strut style ( smoother and handles better! Other differences are: the SP has 14" aluminum wheels vs 12" steel wheels on non SP, SP has down hill assist, non SP does not, and in my case the 2018 SP ( 2018 non SP as well) has 30% less engine brake than previous 570's (2014-2017) and stronger axles on all 4 corners for 2018!
At the end of the day I think I spent about $900 more for the SP over my non SP and IMO that is one hell of deal for what you get :-) I would recommend the SP and if you want the best deal on a new one, wait until about August and the specials on these are phenomenal ! I bought mine for about $1800 off retail :-)
i have a 2018 570 base model i have had it 7 months 224 hours 3400 miles ived only done fluid changes no problems at all
Hard to service front diff with a winch installed. I would have to unbolt the winch bracket on my 2012 Sportsman 500 in order to service the front differential. Poor design.
It's only 4 bolts not that bad

It is only four bolts but is poor design shouldn’t have to remove it to change front differential fluid in our opinion
I have one rides smooth plows through mud with no problems.
This has kept up with all machines through the mud and trails

I've seen these for sale with the two up seats but don't know much about converting on that comes with one seat.

Great review....those hills at Black Lake can be pretty sketchy!! Btw if she ever wants more power the ecu can be flashed on the 570s for 5 to 10 hp gains depending on other mods. I think the 570 is great for our trails in Michigan.
Yea we didn't know they would be quite that steep and all of a sudden washed out at the top in some places. Great place to ride though. Didn't know there could be a horsepower gain on the 570, good to know as she now wants an 850. The 570 is really a great all around machine and does a nice job with enough speed on the trails, you can only go so fast on many of the trails so it keeps up just fine until things open up a bit, lol

@@rzl07375 shit that puts it up there with the older 700s. Polaris built brand recognition on their 500 h.o. models. To try to stay with that strong rep. They over built the 570s. You'll see lots of performance mods for them as the years pass. No doubt. People will use that extra. I think that they even use the 570 in the 450s dont they?
What kind of camera do you use for your filming.? Any issues with memory or battery usage?
We usually use a Sony Steady Shot AS200-V. Sometimes on the vids just filming a quick update or something we will just use our Iphone.
Definitely racked some miles up on her in a year! More than I put on mine the first year I had it! Then again it spent a lot of time in the dealer getting upgrades. Ended up blowing my motor at the end of this season though...1800 miles on it. 🤷♂️

It happens...it was lets say...part of the territory? Insurance coverage thankfully. Otherwise....yeah. $6400.00 for a new 1000cc motor. Glad you had a good year of riding. It's what it is all about.
Lol I have a 2016 Sportsman 850 SP bought her brand new with 3500lb HD winch with blue synthetic. Glacier pro plow. Ran into some medical issues. And I have a hard time getting on and off now. Also I cannot walk very well. She is I my garage waiting for my return with only 270 miles on the odometer. Its had its first service. I'm thinking about getting one done again just so that when I do ride it, nothing is wrong.
@@NorthCountryBoyz 6400 bucks for a new motor? You could bought a new 570 for that much that's absurd. I hope your insurance covered it all.
JackG79 crazy to think what a motor can cost ?! Insurance covered a small amount. What I have into this machine is enough to buy 3 or may 4 570’s with the modifications. I found a love and I sometimes wonder...is my sanity of question. Haha
Careful, the Battery when going thru streams can get submerged. They need to move the battery to under the seat or the front cowling.
They did move the battery a couple of years ago. Being low was nice for balance but was hard to get to and like you said could easily get submerged
Hello. riding out of the black lake area is great. I'm assuming the sand hills you encounter were at black mountain scramble area? last year my wife and I bought a new Can-Am 450 max (the two seater) first thing we ended up doing was ditching the stock tires. I'd recommend you do the same. We put on ITP Tera Cross, HUGE difference we've now upgraded to an 850 which is amazing. anyway, get rid of those stock tires, it'll make a world of diffrence
Yes those are the sand hills. She could make it up most of them just had trouble on one or two that were steep with really lose sand. I bet an upgraded tire would make a nice difference when the time comes
i got a 19 570 sportsman i don't see many difference's from yours to mine but the 570 is great to run with big ones like 1000 and 850s very good quad

We did a separate video on the 1000, overall the 1000 is a bit tougher to do than the 570 is. Mainly cause of the two top grease points on the front of the machine
Had the exact same machine in fact 2 of them. Can’t say they were great. Had 2014 polaris 400ho units before that that were fine. Issues were engine brake was jerky as could be. They clunked loud in drive train when when getting on and off the gas. The throttle was so stiff you’re thumb would cramp on the shortest rides( had to buy finger throttle kit) dealer said there is nothing they could fix it with other than trying new cables that I would have to pay for. Found out from reading that that doesn’t do anything anyways. The battery in the oil filter in a horrible location. You basically have to break your wrist and cut it up on the hose clamps that are apparently cut off with a wire wheel and in the way trying to get the oil filter. Also had issue with it acting the battery was dead every 10 th time you tried to start it. When the temperature was freezing and you started it cold the power steering won’t work. You have to let it run for like five minutes turn it off and hopefully going to restart it it would work or you had to cycle through that a couple times to get the steering to work. All of this the dealer said was just normal. I’ve had a lot of polaris ATVs and snowmobiles in my 40 years of owning them and these machines were a big disappointment. They lasted a year and they went away for Kawasaki‘s and have had zero issues or complaints about their performance or maintenance. Not trying to be negative just giving my honest two cents for my experience.
I think when I went to buy this one I did so much research that I saw the good and bad reviews. Polaris sells so many of these there is a lot of info to sift through. When we did buy it and now have a few years riding it I was pleasantly surprised with our machine that it does as well as it does. Based on what some are saying I thought we would be ok but had a little doubt. Ours luckily has been fantastic for my wife, I ride it very little but would also have no issue if it was my machine.
This one is kind of like my 2012 Sportsman 500 but much better. When I lost my Sportsman due to fire on October 2017, I went looking to replace it with the same machine. I went straight to the polaris dealer and looked at the 570 sportsmans but walking away because I remembered that the battery was down next to the front driveshaft. I already lost one quad to fire and prior to that, I watched a couple trying to put out their Sportsman 570 with water from a puddle. The battery was smoking after passing through that same deep puddle. They didn't know what else to do but throw more water on it. I haven't heard of this happening often, I wonder was it a defective battery case? Who knows but I don't like where polaris puts their batteries on these quads. Always exposed to water and mud.

A lot of these machines have that, we have been told that is normal.
In other quads, where the battery is up high, replace the regular battery with a lithium battery to drastically cut the battery weight and thus increase stability by reducing weight high up….

Yep still have it. It has done great, has 2700 miles on it and still going strong.
Hello, thank you for your video. I have a question. Is it difficult to check the valve clearence on this vehicle? How often do you have to check it? Can the owner do it by himself? Thank you for your reply.

@@DirtyJakTheDustyBean I see. I checked the service manual. It says it's every 500 hours, if I'm not wrong.
Usually that's done during the first service and never worried about again. I didn't even have the dealer do it on my 2012 sportsman 500 and put 3800 km on it plowing, hauling firewood and recreational riding and never had an issue. I think this is the general case for all brands because of the hydraulic lifters.
The fuel valves probubly have a adjustment.
Quads keep getting bigger and bigger. Doesn't really make much sense to me. I put a lot of miles on a honda fourtrax 300 (280 cc). I had a prairie 700 and brute force 750. Back to a Honda Rancher 420, can go anywhere anyone else goes on a lot less fuel. Good video
Been on the trails with many smaller machines and they keep just fine. Heck some riders are hard to keep up with on the smaller machines in the tight stuff
How to I talk my dad into buying me a 450 sportsman the scrambler I have is old and I’m not sure the 4x4 works and sometimes I’ll start it up and the bar cuts left and I have to cut it the other way for about 30 seconds and the it goes back to normal

Nice machine.I’ve got a 570 with an air intake , exhaust and a Ecu reflash, it makes 65 crank horsepower and 46 wheel horsepower.
All together the upgrades cost me around $800. It’s a lot cheaper to do what I did than buying the 850 for only little extra horsepower

Just got this in the 2021 version, more or less the same except for the battery under the front luggage tray, up in the dry. It is new, but the motor sound is more ruff, and idling is very uneven, maybe it will steady once it is run in. One thing that really irritates me is those cheap Chinese tires with nearly no grip, as Your wife experienced in the sandy hill. Why is Polaris going for that cheap solution. Buying large amounts of tires they have all the possibility to get good prices for some descent tires. Another little concern is a "clonking sound" in the transmission when shifting from acceleration to motorbreaking and back to acceleration..
Have not decided, if I like this on more over my old Worker 500 HO, except for the powersteering, which is great.

I have one exactly like it, sorry but ive had & having problems with it now, hard starting & doesn't have a rope starter, & sure needed it several times, I don't like walking, long story short, im selling mine also, hopefully.
Most of them don't have pull starts anymore
We had em with pull starts in the past and did love that option, to bad they don’t have em anymore- now we carry tow straps and jumper boxes in case battery trouble
To bad we did like the old pull start models or I should say the option to pull start in case electric starter not working
I have a 2015 without power steering. It rides nice while it works. Beyond that what a POS! To small of a battery. Had starter and charging problems. Bottom line, only reasons we buy this shot cuz it’s cheaper then the rest.
So far ours has been very solid with no issues. Have approx 1300 miles or so on it now and seems to run as good now as the day we bought it.

Took a week long trip to the Hatfield McCoy trails and put some miles on em that week. Otherwise just weekend trips for the most part

I won a 2016 570 in a raffle that year so I'm not complaining about that. But you're right, the battery isn't in a good spot. There is a company that makes a relocate kit for it though higher up behind the rear left wheel. All the new ones now 2020 and 21 have the battery located under the front compartment

Got a 2019. Starter or battery is sadly underpower. 40 degrees just barely started. Plastic front and back, trail only. Definitely not a honda, learned my lessen.

our polaris 1998 has 90 000 miles on it still rips like hell
They covered everything that went wrong for two years.
The ones prior to these machines went strong for 15 years then we sold them. Purchaser of the machine checked the compression and was blown away was about perfect still!
we've had no issues....the wire sometimes comes loose and it wont start...how long did it take to figure that out? POS, just admit it lol! I'm kidding guys relax
TrollHD PC wire came loose and we pushed it back in. Maybe got lucky and caught it right away when it first happened. Contacted the dealership and they gave us a new wire and all has been good ever since. Overall been a great machine

No mention of wheel bearings
No issue to speak of on them, thinking about taking a look at them when the weather breaks to see how they look.
