No thank you. I started my Philippine adventure almost 9 years ago in Lapu-lapu on around $ 700 US dollars per month. Mactan Island was too crowded and the air quality was terrible. Got my phone stolen on a jeepney, got clipped by a motorcycle, lost 20 pounds in 4 months and returned to the USA. Had an upper chest infection that took 2 rounds of antibiotics. Got food poisoning twice and had a girlfriend who was sending scantily clad pictures to another foreigner. Even with all of that I returned to the Philippines. Now I live in Dumaguete and like it much more than the Cebu area. Good luck in your adventures in the Philippines.
What a rough beginning Willy. Wow. Glad to hear that you didn't throw in the towel because now it seems you've found a sweet spot. Good for u brother 👍
Hello and I will be moving to Cebu in August and have a question. I am quite phobic about cockroaches etc. How is that situation in your apartment. I know it's not a big deal to others but to me it is and that's why I'm asking. Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge.
There's roaches pretty much everywhere here. Even in the grocery stores. We don't have a lot of them in our apartment. The occasional on flies in the window from time to time. Cat chases it around for a few hours.
If you live in a high rise condo there will mainly just be cockroaches in the garbage chute/trash room on your floor. If you put weather seal around the entry door so there are no gaps you can avoid them pretty well. Otherwise they come under the door from the hallway. Florida is the same way. You can also seal all the electrical fixtures and plumbing entry points but they mostly come in through the entry door. The big jumbo cockroaches you mostly see tend not to infest your home like the small German ones do, they prefer to live outside.

Do you get a lot of earthquakes there? How far are you from the nearest volcano? On your family budget of three what is your typical day like? Do you both have any hobbies? is your baby walking around a lot at this point? Are you living on Social Security? Where does your income come from? Thanks for the video as I wonder on my $1,221 a month SS how I will be able to live and commute with my bicycle and you tell it like it is and can make it amazingly cheap. I think I can save a lot by not owning a car or motorcycle. How much does gas cost? Thanks for going to the hard work of creating videos!
No not a lotta earthquakes. There was one on a nearby island and Cebu felt some minor trembles from it. Last year. I'm not sure how far away a volcano is from us. But no where near us that's for sure. My day is just family stuff. Neighborhood stuff. It's pretty low key. I'm too young for social security. I get income from a rental I have back in the states..and some online stuff I do. $1221 is a lot more than I have. I personally could make it on that easily..but some people couldn't. You definitely can save just biking it. I'm not sure gas prices because I don't drive so I haven't been tracking it like I would if I had a vehicle. If you set yourself up near all the things you need..like a market/grocery store..you should be fine. Come and explore for a bit. See if it resonates with you. If so, pack it up and get over here 💜
@@philippinesxtremes Thanks so much for taking the time with me amid all of your subscribers and for your videos. I'll watch more. I just thought I remembered that area had a couple of active volcanoes but I suppose that's much farther south in Indonesia. I didn't think you were retirement age at all but thought maybe you had some special form of SS as some receive it at any age for special reasons. An old friend who had an older father started getting SS once his father turned 65 or retired and so from age 12 I think it was through age 18 his SS accumulated and I think he got it all at once or maybe he got it throughout those 6 years. You're so resourceful with rentals in the US and all that you'll come up with a much greater income and own your own home there. All the best to you and yours! I'll pray for you and family.

If you move to somewhere like the Philippines and don’t want to adapt to the corresponding lifestyle, my advice is stay where you are, simple. I get that most people think they need those things to be happy though. I just think it's all contrived and kind of a waste. Not judging.. just not for me

Definitely Rich. It's dependant on the individual. There's a lot of good options in the 5k range. And for 10k here in Cordova, you can even live in a subdivision.

As long as you are happy with what you have. I live in Cebu City with 0 house payment and my budget is $3000(family of 4) because that is what I have to spend. I have travel budget, medical, savings, emergency savings, A/C, SUV payment, eating out, coffee out, western food and love my life style that I worked for 45 years(it's almost 2 times cheaper here than in the States). I just hate "camping" out in my old age. I hate eating dried fish or cheap fish and can't eat rice and my Filipino family loves western food. I hope you have a back up plan for medical and getting out of Dodge. Your little apt is great for where you are at. I could do it, but my Filipina wife would not live in a small place like that. We also have school cost, fees, uniforms, private schooling. I do pray you have back up funds for emergencies.

@@philippinesxtremes Thanks so much for taking the time with me amid all of your subscribers and for your videos. I'll watch more. I just thought I remembered that area had a couple of active volcanoes but I suppose that's much farther south in Indonesia. An old friend who had an older father started getting SS once his father turned 65 or retired and so from age 12 I think it was through age 18 his SS accumulated and I think he got it all at once or maybe he got it throughout those 6 years.
