something you will find very refreshing about the Philippines compared to other Asian countries is the English language is taught in schools
which means something very important. That is that the girls understand sarcasm. That’s Huge!!! Enjoy your adventure but don’t be surprised if you fall in love

I'm guessing you're Canadian, very considerate, honest without being condescending. For your protein, keep an eye on chicken franchises Mang Inasal, Andoks, Gerry's Grill. They serve grilled or rotisserie chicken not fried. Lots of roadside chicken rotisserie places but not in city centres.

for protein you really have to cook yourself. Find a meatshop (even better if run by an expat) where they sell quality meat, fish, chicken and prepare your food at home. There is really no way around this in the philippines. If you fancy tuna in can go for the brand Gold Seas tuna in olive oil (not the cheap vegetable oil). Be aware when you eat out, food will be cooked with cheap unhealthy vegetable (same in thailand). The best way to stay healthy and lean is to prepare your own food. And price of chicken filet in PH is way higher than in Thailand. cheers

Welcome to the Philippines. When Spain first arrived to the Philippines, the warriors they came with are mostly former Mayans and Aztecs newly converted to Christianity. They brought them by the thousands until they were able to settle their battles in the Visayan islands which centered around Cebu. Yup, those Cebuanos have that Aztec/Mayan lineage. Good luck on your travels.

I find different cultures and backgrounds fascinating, I get in and out of the city quite often, if you pause and look hard can you see Hispanic qualities in the looks of some of the people? When you get a chance travel to Maya at the too of the island, you could imagine you are in Maya country in Mexico. Read the history of the Acapulco to Manila galleons, some people in Mexico were talked into going to the Philippines and some Filipinos decided to stay in Mexico, there is a monument to the first ships in the harbor of Barra de Navidad Jalisco Mexico. Keep up the info, from the average Norteamericano.

I have clarifications on the issue of getting SIM card for your phone. Actually, it is very easy to get a SIM card for your phone if you are a tourist to the Philippines and it's no different from the countries that you mentioned you visited before coming to the Philippines. It is the local Filipino citizens who are required to present legal documents if they buy a new SIM card for their phones not the tourists. However, if you are an expat and is planning to stay in the country for up to 6 months or longer, then you need the permanent SIM card not the tourist SIM card.

I think rotesseri chicken is a big thing in Philippines. and forsure if you can have some more fat in your diet to eat lechon. your in the Mecca for that. love Thailand and Philippines. and for sure its a difference with Bangkok and Manila and Cebu city. good observations I resonate with most of it but would say filipinos are very emotional to the point they can be taken advantage off and think thai people are kind by nature but have bit more boundaries. very interesting vids looking also to relocate to Thailand or Philippines and this is very helpful.

I am sure if you asked around, you can get a housekeeper/cook for very little. She could prep for you and have your place clean for very little. Not to mention you'd have a local resource for information. You'll find google doesn't hold the answers that a lifelong Filipino has. I'd check with your Airbnb host, they could probably refer you to their housekeepers. Lastly, for protein powders and supplements to get started until you find other alternatives:
    GNC

Arch. Reyes Avenue and Bohol Ave., Cebu Business Park,

From memory food in Cebu was horrible especially if you're trying to eat high protein diet. I told one of the chick's I knew that cebu food was horrible and she didn't want to talk to me after that! I ended up just eating in a Thai restaurant everyday which was the only way I could get something semi close to edible. In the end I couldn't wait to get out of the place, and the main reason was the low food quality.

The people in the Philippines in general are so nice and I've been here for a couple yrs and going back to the US to vote then on inauguration day I'm coming back home. The American I grew up in is dead or dying and the world sees that the current administration there is making the world a dangerous place. I want to gain my citizenship here so I can be a Filipino citizen. This place will make you forget about what's going on in the rest of the world unless you follow news reports. I only pay attention to news that talks about life here and if it will affect me and my immigration status. We travel to Boracay twice a yr and now we are going to scratch that trip and go to Palawan Island before I leave for the US. If you are smart with your money here you can live a very good life here. I always let my Filipina control the money when we shop cause they will charge you double if you're a foreigner. She books all our trips and it's fun to watch her snap on them when they try to charge us double for our trip and hotel. She got our 2 week stay for 800 usd with round trip flights

Unfortunately that was the nail in the coffin, columbia is just not for me, I'll probably stick with asian countries. Lived in thailand for 1.5 years some time ago and loved it. extremely relaxed and never had any issues at all. Philippines is on my list as well, will check it out possibly this year. But why did you choose cebu for long term stay btw. ? Some friends of mine told me that it is a bit of s sh*thole and there are much nicer places in the country. Never been there myself though, so I can't confirm. Will be interesting to see your opinion on that and other stuff after you have lived there for a while. If you don't see a fast food in America, its most likely in the Philippines. I'm from Canada and i know we don't have Nathans Famous Franks (if your from New York you know it) and they have it in Bgc. Same with Shake Shack. There is also New Orleans style seafood restaurant i just forgot the name i know they serve it in a bucket. Not long ago, they had a test run of Inn-and-Out burgers for and it sold out in minutes. And Tim Hortons is now there also. If your from Canada, you can get your comfort food. Korean Food is very popular there in the Philippines and also Japanese ramen. Mindanao region known to have great pizza's joint's not chains either. When it comes to lodging, it is more expensive when you compare it to Thailand. My guess is that there is alot of Condo's that are owned by MegaWorld. Government corruption is prevalent there and that is holding it back being competitive to likes of Singapore or Thailand.

That's wild I also seen a few tim hortants in thailand but they seem to be always empty, where as in canada I'd never see an empty tim hortants. That New Orleans style food sounds really good to

You may have subscribed to a postpaid mobile phone coverage and not prepaid like what you had in thailand. Postpaid is a monthly paid mobile subscription service. Dont get offended joking filipinos because they love to joke too. So just listen and learn how they joke. Cebu is a city in another region in the philippines 🇵🇭 it is the premier city in the Visayas region. Depending on tour lifestyle i reckon you can live at well enough 1k usd or less a month in cebu. There is another good place near cebu province to live, ie Dumaguete City and Iloilo City. These are in different provinces near Cebu. You can find heaps of international cuisines in the Philippines aside from the local foodstuffs. Because you will always look for other type of cuisines other than local food once in awhile. Heaps of protein meat like grilled chicken and pork and even grilled fish…Try Andoks, Baliwag and Mang Inasal they sell grilled meats. Philipines has the best bbq, just explore local areas around cebu city… heaps of night markets there too. Try Sugbo Night Market and i think another one in Carbon Night food market. Hope to see more vids from u there mate.

I am from Las Vegas I am used to the buffet. in Cebu there is a buffet for 600 pesos at "Seaside SM" mall called Yak-Mix you can get your protein there cheap. But I live in Lyte. They have meats that you can cook at your table and Sushi. It's all you can eat. Check it out.

If you don't want to be involved in bs I'd advise you to stay to yourself and whatever you do don't ever argue with the food vendors or the neighbors cause as a foreigner you will lose even if you're in the right you are still wrong. The laws here are to help the Philippine people not foreigners. You should really look for the larger grocery stores here to find the American food you're used to having. Myself I just eat the typical food here. Your body will get used to it. Never drink the tap water here either. Always order the water with the bid blue container or bottled water. Even brushing your teeth with the tap water can give you diarrhea.
