I guess it comes down to expectations. I remember my Old Saab 9-3 lights to be like candles in lights, where as my Golfs LED's active lights turn night into day. So when I saw that the V85 had LED's my expectation was they would be great. But I don't like that the Guzzi eagle DRL casts a dark spot in the middle of the road. The Riding lights fill this area. Helpful video mate, thanks for producing it. For a guy like yourself who (like myself), clearly does a lot of hard leaning it is strange that those tyres should square off so much. For what it is worth, I personally believe most people run their tyre pressures too high because the manual always errs on the side of caution (i.e. based on a 18 stone rider with a 16 stone wife and 50 lbs of luggage, but of course they cant say that because it is "fattest" or "overweight-phobic" or "luggage-phobic" something!) generally speaking I have found that lowering pressure a couple of pounds or more can solve that problem if I experience it. Of course it depends on the inherent rigidity of the tyre carcass etc so no given pressure is good across the board but you know where I am coming from. I once read an article on exactly how to discover what your tyre pressure should be based on your riding but I cant remember what it was called but the central point was that every rider is different and you should forget the manual and do your own experimentation. I do this and always find I am lowering pressure even though I am a quick rider and it not only reduces squaring considerably but also improves control and ride quality for a country back road scratcher like me.

If you have not solved the problem of water in the switches, try removing the cluster, shake out any water and spray with WD40. I had the same problem on my Stelvio and rode home in a downpour with high and low beams on at the same time, it cured it completely and that was 9 years ago. I nearly bought a V85TT when my Stelvio engine seized due to an oil pump gear failure but opted to keep the Stelvio. Great review and you have made the bike better . Just done exactly the same one year and just over 7k loved every mile and agree with your report. I've been let down by bullshit dealership experience and servicing so she as gone. Valves never checked in 2 service visits us jobs not carried out but charged for. Then told my bike was making odd noise from transmission and they would need it for a "few" days. No courtesy bike just leave me without transport. Indicator switch is poor. Side stand switch came loose. Couple of fasteners needed tightening. Exhaust guards will slice through fingers when cleaning. Sad too see it go.

Nice review of a lovely bike. Down south here there is no NCT (or MOT) for bikes. How will the DVLA deal with the decat at the MOT? Will you have to put the original system back on?

@@tokaitelejohn5656 The Euro 5 motor is at its maximum for emissions. Imo it's been strangled to make it work until they get the V100 motor rolled out. (which they have now) when a bike has only 69 whp gaining 7 is very noticeable. And it's not only the extra bhp. It's the throttle response and how the different maps now work that's the big difference. Mpg is down about 5mpg. But that's very acceptable. I've done a few WaW vids.

Own a v85tt 2021 Centenario . I thought due to it's simplicity that here would be no issues . How wrong was i. Ongoing and still have an issue of surging on rpm on idle that guzzi refused acknowledge or to fix , which i believe is a crank position sensor gap that needs to be changed with the stator for the generator Then the issue with signals not working somehow water got into the circuit and fried it needed to be replaced . End bolts on my handle bar holding the crash guard decided to fall out after the first month . My most recent issue is a total wire harness change out on a 3 year old bike covered the part not labour out of warranty 1 month . Finally my center stand bolt decided to let go and nearly killed me when i was making a turn by rubbing on my tire . Blame the tech who installed it without loctite . Do i like the bike yes do i think italians know how to put a bike together no, would i buy another, sadly absolutely not . I have payments so i have no choice but to continue to make the best out of it but hopefully i can one day be smart enough and buy a Yamaha .

Fantastic review mate , good to see a detailed English review, I’m very interested in the upmap ? , I live in Australia and have a 2021 Centennio model , I’m up to 6000kms brought it new from a dealer 6 months ago . I haven’t done any performance mods as yet ( just an Australian made uni- Filter ) a form filter better for Australian dust conditions. And if you plan taking you bike off road at all . I sent my airbox and filter to them and are testing the first one in the world 🌍. It definitely breaths better I tested back to back . I am holding of on pipe mod at this stage as I don’t want to effect warranty. I had a problem with my EML coming on over 5500 RPM , apparently an issue with some 2021 models , like faulty valves ( some were recalled ) mine I think was a bug in the ecu and a recalibration of the sonic wheel , prior to resetting it valves had to b adjusted. Anyway hasn’t do it since so happy about that love the bike . Mods 1. Screen deflector - buffering as you said 2. GPS mount same as yours 3. Givi tank ring for tank bag 4. Sm- motech crash bars 5. Have ordered the Sm- Motech pegs and don’t really like the standard ones 6. Modified Benelli 1130’pannier racks to fit ( as I love the semi hard soft panniers that were on my 1130 . 7. Round tube ( document holder ) can put tools etc in I put a “ snap Jack in it - means no Centerdtand , that only gets in way in corners 😂😂😂. Pelican case for a back box - cheaper than OEM panniers . I did a 5000 untube review on mine . My filing isn’t the best 😂😂😂. Any way fantastic vid mate looking forward to more English stuff from you . Regards Paul from Australia
Thank you for your kind words. I enjoy showcasing my V85 as it isn't the go-to bike in this segment, and I always like the underdog in anything I buy. I also love showing our country off in a motorcyclist's light.. I have just purchased LOMO panniers and a 40ltr roll bag. I need to buy some Givi racks so I can modify them for a Lomo soft pannier bag set. This will be my winter project. I have the K&N filter, but I have heard that in dusty environments it lets grit through to the intakes. But Dust isn't something we are troubled with in Ireland and it's Rain LOL... I also loathe the centre stand, I am trying my best to avoid it. Future Mods: 1. Pannier Racks for Lomo Soft Luggage 2. Paint the Front Alternator cover and figure out a possible alloy bash plate extender. as I don't like the caponord fender mod 3. Change tyres to Anakee Adventure 4. ADV-style folding mirrors 5. Looking at the Mosko Moto Tank bag for my Drone when out riding to get quick access

what does it look like when a second person rides in the back including two suitcases? is the power too low or does it not make much difference with a second person?
I never have a pillion with me. So, I cannot give you a good idea of how it feels. The most I have on the back is all my camping gear at a weight of 25-30 kilos. But I know a lost of V85 TT owners use the V85 with pillion and luggage

Hello, Bucky. Forgive me for missing it -- I am watching quietly as some of my family is asleep nearby (alright, it is my Mastiff puppy, but she's family) -- did you say that your mapping, intake and exhaust, reduced your mileage? If the stock bike is starved-lean, to pass E-whatever(5?), then maybe I heard that right. Thank for the review. John
Yes I feel I have lost between 10-20 miles from the tank range.. Now I guess this could be fuelling, or maybe subconsciously I enjoy the sound of the motor more by twisting that throttle a bit harder 🤔🤣
It's ACF-50 If you type in Google it will be the top search. It is an Aero Grade rust protector that a lot of bikers who ride their bike through winter use to protect the bikes from rusting and corrosion. Here in the UK we spread a lot of Salt on the roads at winter to inhibit Freezing
Nice review. Is the indicator issue definitely due to the switch unit? Reason I ask is I had a Benelli that I took to Germany and for a miserable week it was in torrential rain. From that moment the indicators gradually stopped working. When i got home I checked the forum and it was a common issue. The indicator relays in that model were not waterproof and filled up with water. May be worth checking in the Guzzi club uk forum.
Interesting.. I'll give it a look. When it got wet in the storm. They had a life of their own. They would turn themselves on randomly, but gradually I guess as they dried out a bit. They eventually stopped working all together.. But thanks for the pointer 👍🏼
Bought in 22 and sold it to some poor fella within 8 months with 4k on the clock it would not stop pinging it's head off every time it got hot and the resale value on them is terrible 😢
Thanks for watching.. I'm maybe moving too fast on the scene which is making it look like pavement, but if it's the scene I'm thinking you're talking about with all the massive pot holes. That's a gravel lane. That's why the chicken strips I talked about were so hard to see because the tyres where covered in a light grey gravel dust... I have a set of Michelin Anakee Adventure ordered to give them a try.. They are a little bit more gravel orientated that the Trail smarts..
Nice video! I am going to test ride one in the morning. I have a question: what is the cornering clearance like? I like going fast around bends. I don't want to buff the pegs too easily. What's your opinion on that? Thanks!
TBF, I think it was more down to the rear shock being too soft. I've not touched down the peg since screwing it up 1 notch and 2 notches when luggage is onboard. A lighter person won't have an issue, you will run out of tyre wall before you have issues imo. I'm 93kilo. Those tyres really do inspire confidence. Moto Guzzi seems to use the Dunlop or Anakee adventure tyre on the V85's. The Dunlop would be the more road orientated tyre of the 2. I've just watched it all back on the big TV and when i was talking about chicken strips the light grey mark around the tyre that's about 1" from the edge of the tyre is from be riding up a gravel road. If the tyres wer clean you'd see the lean has been right down to 10mm from the edge of the tyre and I've never felt they wer squirmy
I had the trailsmart max, which I liked, then trailmax meridians which were not as good in the wet. I have Metzler roadtec 01 on now and have got so much more confidence to lean into turns I've hit my boots off the road a couple of times and now ride with my feet turned in more. there's no hero blobs to give you an early warning. to be fair it's an adventure bike so I can't complain... at those angles it's right on the edge of the tyre anyway so as Bucky said, you'll run out of tyre before you run out of lean (assuming you don't have big feet like me lol)
@@TuzzaB have you come across a YT that shows how to do what your telling us.. I'm not sure what you're doing to the front. Are you adjusting the front pre load or. Compression? The 5 clicks is this the pre load or the dampener screw?
I removed the rubber bumpers under the seat. Then I installed a -25mm MShock. I had a welder remove 2cm from the sidestand. Am 5' 8" and now I can flatfoot it. The handling is improved and also wheeling it out of the garage feels much easier. That top heavy feeling is gone. I really love the bike, even more than I had expected.
@buckymoto1784 Also installed full GTM exhaust, Upmap T800, Dyno PC6 and AT300. Hp and torque increased significantly, rwhp=83, it's like getting a new engine. Runs way cooler!
In all honesty all reviews about reliability it is becoming so boring… I know a bike needs to be reliable, but is it exciting, do you feel the bike, is it making your internal engine tick? One of the reasons for the motorcycle collapse is that people are fixating with reliability and end up buying the same bikes on and on… btw I own a motorcycle Guzzi and love it to bits

I like to say it how it is without pro reviewer BS.. If it's crap I'll say it crap. I don't wear rose tinted glasses. But I still love the bike I also loved my Mk1 Multistrada and it's bag of spanners dry clutch. 🤣 I am drawn to quirky things in life..
Sorry you had a bad dealer experience. I had the same and as a result I rode 200 miles to get my 1st service done via a different dealer. My local one is 💩...
Nice review of a lovely bike. Down south here there is no NCT (or MOT) for bikes. How will the DVLA deal with the decat at the MOT? Will you have to put the original system back on?
I've never had a bike with a full system before, only a muffler. I'll cross that bridge nearer the time.. But if needed it's an hours work swapping them over.. 👍🏼
@@buckymoto1784 Thanks! I decated a Super Tenere that I had (with a full Arrow system) and got the engine remapped and it transformed the bike. I can imagine that it had had a really noticeable effect on yours too and those extra few horse power are definitely worth having. I must say that I'm really tempted by the V85.
Love mine 10k miles so far

Bucky - nice review. Did you say you bought those little rubber protectors on the crash bars from Allied Express? I couldn’t quite make it out. Thanks.

@@buckymoto1784 Thanks much! Love the accent.
Mods
1. Screen deflector - buffering as you said
2. GPS mount same as yours
3. Givi tank ring for tank bag
4. Sm- motech crash bars
5. Have ordered the Sm- Motech pegs and don’t really like the standard ones
Regards
Paul from Australia
Future Mods:
1. Pannier Racks for Lomo Soft Luggage
2. Paint the Front Alternator cover and figure out a possible alloy bash plate extender. as I don't like the caponord fender mod
3. Change tyres to Anakee Adventure
4. ADV-style folding mirrors

Thanks for the review. Please change those tyres, they look scary square on the video. 😊
🤣. It's only really in the last month I've noticed when cornering I'm taking 2 bites at it.. I have a new set already ordered. I get them in 3 weeks time

I was really considering buying one, great bike
I love mine. It is different from the usual ADV bikes most people buy. and it is Guzzi, which carries some kudos. I hope my video has helped you make your mind up.. BTW I got my Indicator switch working again with some Electronic contact spray
Thank you for excellent review. What is the « SCF 50 » ? … I’m not sure what it is and what it’s for… thanks! Renald (from Canada)
It was definately the switch. I sprayed it in electrical contactor spray and once left for 10 mins to work it's magic it they are now working... 🙂
Bought in 22 and sold it to some poor fella within 8 months with 4k on the clock it would not stop pinging it's head off every time it got hot and the resale value on them is terrible 😢
The Decat fixed the pinging for me... Get's rid of heat easier.
That asphalt is really rough! That texture is why your tires are squaring off. I think you may want to change those.
@@buckymoto1784 The Anakees do fine on the tarmac as I seem to only have time to ride when I am on my commute to work on my Travel model.
@@mmm357m The same happens me when I'm wearing the sidi adventures. I once had my left foot ripped off the peg when it caught the road
Compress the fork springs (raise the front) set the rear shock to level 4 or 5 and it handles likes a motard even on dual purpose tyres, I love it.
@@TuzzaB have you come across a YT that shows how to do what your telling us.. I'm not sure what you're doing to the front.

I’m still so drawn to this bike. But with a 29 inch inseam, I’m hesitant.
If you do the seat modification I mention in the video you will be good. I also am a 29" inseam 👍🏼
