    For the TR6S, you can effect the single tracks with effects, but you need to do it via a computer, by downloading the specific ASIO driver (Roland supplies it), separating each out its separate mixer track, and add fxs that way. I've done it with mine once via FL studio, but it seems like the Drumbrute still takes the cake for exports

    • @LiamKillen
      @LiamKillen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh cool via software! Very cool

    The TR6S have separate outputs througt the usb port directly in your DAW, I got the drumbrute and the TR6S both are amazig devices, in my opinion DI is perfectly for live perfomance, while TR6S is great for create and rec.

  • @GreatistheWorld

    Slight addendum, less buttons doesn’t make for a simpler workflow necessarily, don’t know how common this is but POs were harder to learn for me because there was a lot of memorizing sort of unintuitive button combinations. Once you’ve got that muscle memory down sure, but it was a process getting there. Of course my first was the Arcade, which has more going on inside and that colors the experience!
    Also worth mentioning, as a headphones guy I didn’t know until Ricky Tinez mentioned it, pocket operators BANG on speakers
    Great video

    I think the mc101 is a better choice for a drum machine than the tr6s (at least for the unquantized workflow option), but I'm taking more of a liking to the tr6s

    • @LiamKillen
      @LiamKillen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To me it’s more of like a one shot machine.

    • @SwiftDreamer
      @SwiftDreamer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LiamKillen Really? The mc101 is highly underrated IMO. Yea, it comes with a lot of samples, but it also has tone generators that can create drum hits like kicks, snares & cymbals as well as other sounds that you can kinda tweak (it pairs well if you have zenology pro). It has a chord mapping, can play sequences in random order, midi notes aren't locked to a grid, you record and resample internal audio via looper tracks, it really is like having a portable daw
      Apologies if you already knew this, I just really love my mc101 & learning to use the tr6s with it

Does it come from the power supply ? Thanks for your help 🙏

    I sold my Roland TR8S for two reasons. Size and to me it was a machine to play live, which is something I don’t do. I missed having those classic Roland sounds, so I bought a used TR6S. For me, the 6S is better and smaller for studio use. However, I think it is very very unrated, especially with the latest firmware update. It literally is a TR8S but smaller and I absolutely love it. The menu diving and reduced controls isn’t that bad, as the operating system make it all work well. The TR6S paired with an Elektron Syntakt or an Erica Synths LXR-02 is a lethal combination of drums. That’s said, the TR6S also has FM and is a bargain buy for what it can do. Definitely the best value drum machine out there, that really can do it all.

    and drum sounds just made from noise, and, sine, the decent effect chain was essential, drumbrute,

    The Drumbrute “wins” because it has 5 analog audio outputs and the TR-6S looses because it has 6 digital audio outputs (USB Audio)? I’m sorry, I can’t hear you over the quality of the extra digital audio output my TR-6S has ;)

    • @LiamKillen
      @LiamKillen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kind of subjective to a point. I see your argument too I did a comparison between the TR-808 + TR-6S 808 sounds and if you check the comments a lot of people couldn't even tell the difference or actually preferred the 6s! Here's the video: th-cam.com/video/0KTTpNKyOho/w-d-xo.html&t

    • @shaft9000
      @shaft9000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Meh,. SPDIF and optical has been on gear for decades, and you've always needed a host for it just like USB does.
      Being able to plug into any amp or audio mixer straight away without fuss is a massive flexibility advantage that no digital I/O has never been able to make obsolete.

    • @AT-wl9yq
      @AT-wl9yq 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. If you are sending the digital signal out on the Roland, you're just using it as a transport. At some point, it has to be converted to analog, or you can't listen to it. Either way, you are going to be using the analog outputs on the Roland, or on whatever you are using for a dac.
      As far as the digital vs analog debate goes, all analog components will vary from good to bad, as will all digital products. There's no guarantee which will sound better. A comparison needs to be done on an case by case basis. There's just too many variables at play. Listen to them all and pick the one that sounds best.

    • @EverettVinzant
      @EverettVinzant 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AT-wl9yq I’m guessing you don’t know that ;) is a smile with a wink. I’m guessing you don’t know that I wasn’t being absolutely correct, but rather pointing out something that wasn’t highlighted in the video in a gentle “ribbing” manner.
      Having built and repaired analog and digital radios, I’m very familiar with digital and analog electronics.
      Thanks for the post though.

    impression:
    - TR-6S very versatile but unfortunately sounding more like 'ReBirth advanced' than a drum machine....no wood or rattle to it = all plastique sounding. All the ACB&Zen-core are like this - sounds nice and tidy but not gritty, thick or dirty...detailed and responsive yes, but always sounding _flattened and polite._
    - DBI has a near-perfect UI... but a bungled sound engine (again!) - such a confused palette including the worst f*^&%ng clap ever. I'd rather use an MFB which is major a shame since the seq, connectivity and and build are truly great.
    - PO is a gadget, and not a drum machine.
