  • All men at age 21 must participate in military draft. Drawing a red card means 2 years service in army. A back card means exception, no need to go to army. Most of drawer expect a back card.

If the boy gets red, he must join the 2-year military service. If you pick up a black card, you will be exempt from military service. Thais are very humorous, while waiting for the result, someone will support them behind to avoid the case of the person fainting when they know the result.

    (For foreigners)
I would like to explain brief story of Military Conscription in Thailand.
Thailand has a conscription, but not all Thai men serve the National Service. In one conscription period which is taken place around early April every years, there are men who applied to serve voluntarily, or with their own intentions, if the areas have the full numbers of the applicants as the Armed Forces require, other men who don't apply will not be drafted, but if not, there will be a lottery called "Red Card/Black Card". If the men get red card, they will be drafted, if the men get black card, they will not be drafted. It is not like in some nations like South Korea where Military Service is mandatory for every men.
If Thai men are the "Army Reserved Force Students" for at least 3 years (mostly during the high school), they will be exempted from the National Service too, but they have to go the the units to present themselves when the units require.
The age of conscription in Thailand is 21, but Thai men can request for postponement of the military service if they have to study or work, until age 26, during this time, they have to present themselves at the units to give their forms of postponement to the officers. When they reach 26, they have to apply to serve the National Service or pick up the Red Card/Black Card.
The lengths of the National Service are also varied.
If the men apply to serve voluntarily, they will serve - 6 months (If they have bachelor degree.), 1 year (if they have high school diploma.), 2 years (If they graduate lower than high school level.).
If the men pick Red Card/Black Card - If they get Black Card, they will not be drafted. If they get Red Card, they will serve - 1 year (If they have bachelor degree.), 2 years (If they don't have bachelor degree.).
When men become soldiers, they will receive the basic training for about 10 weeks or around 3 months. Their relatives can visit them after their first 20 days. (or more, I'm not sure about the exact number). After that, they will be appointed different works or missions.

    • @honjokun0615
      @honjokun0615 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@tristanlau1213 LoL. But yes, a draft notice recipient can do so at the very start of the day, when attendance is being taken. I volunteered, I volunteered as tribute. On selection day 2007, I was called up to the desk, and I told the officer that I wanted to volunteer. He asked me if I was sure and the other boys looked in awe. I was then asked about my educational background, and my preferred branch of service and start date. I chose the Royal Thai Navy. Volunteers with Associate's Degree or higher are required to serve only 6 months instead of the normal 2 years, so I only had to suspend my Master's degree studies for just one semester.
My bio was read out loud on a loudspeaker when I volunteered, so they gave me 15 mins of fame. No 3-fingers salute though.
Feel free to shoot me questions.

I'm English and the U.K. Is thinking about bringing back National Service. Firstly to discipline the snowflake generation and secondly to lower unemployment. Maybe the U.K. should have the "military lottery".

if the welfare and the process/culture aren't got corrupted, they YES, the reputation here is huge BIG at bad in a general Thai citizens honest reaction, you can often see someone has passed out because they have/seeking for better paid job to ensure a better life instead of the 24 months serving the military, imagine you're just the mid-class or lower family and being the main source of the income for the family's mandatory spending you've mom/dad or wife or even your descendant(s) to taking care of or worse than that it is they're just been hospitalized for chronic disease or some kind of it and going to use an amount of (yeah, you know what it is...) "MONEY".
FYI: Salary is about 10,000 THB or $280, for cheapest rental (Super-duper ultra epic legendary exotic rare pro max) here is about 25% of this number not incl. other bills and mandatory stuffs, Thai standard income is 15,000 THB (depends on your major) for as Diploma, bachelor's degree aka. Thai's standard/must have degree just for providing some basic living and also Thai legal minimum income is going to be about 330 THB/day if you work as labor in small province here...

Don't get it, are they happy to get drafted or annoyed? Joining the Army is the best thing for any men, i wish they reestablish Military draft back in Japan.

Makoto Shimabukuro maybe in Japan my brother. You do realise that not all militaries are the same. Thailand ones is under funded and corrupt... that is just the tip of the icebergs as well as you know, even the higher ups don’t really care if you die or survive in it. I respect the army, and I would happily join the Thai if it wasn’t so corrupt... we have more men than actual issuable weapons, and a lot of the times you have to buy it yourself....
