Thanks for sharing this video Ronnie. It’s always interesting to see what’s going on in the shop. The camera lady is doing a great job as well. Thank you both.
I still drive an OBS 5.7 everyday and I went through the engine several years ago. It’s got a flat tappet cam & lifters in it from an after source. You USED to be able to run Rotella or a similar diesel engine oil with sufficient ZDDP to protect a flat tappet cam but not anymore because CK-4 specs reduced ZDDP below 1000ppm in diesel oils to protect their after treatment exhaust system. I’ve ran 15W40 diesel oil with 1/2 bottle of Risolone ZDDP supplement(blue bottle) which puts the ZDDP content around 1600ppm which is what most tribologists recommend for flat tappet cams in street applications. I use Risolone because it’s inexpensive and it also has dispersants in it to keep the ZDDP in suspension. That’s important because if a ZDDP additive doesn’t contain its own detergent/dispersant additive in it that means it’s going to deplete the dispersant in your oil quicker. I’ve got several customers that have been using this method on the engines that I have built for them with good success. Some builders have had a terrible time with getting flat tappet cams to live but I’ve been fortunate thankfully. If I had a customer who didn’t want to be bothered with adding ZDDP or using a high ZDDP engine oil I’d recommend them retrofitting their engine with a roller cam. 👍
Thank you for the good information. I will try the Risolone. I use Rotella T-6 in my 6.4 HEMI. Thank you for visiting Hillbilly Garage, we hope you come back regular like.

@@Hillbillygarage1215 Risolone makes several different types. Blue label ZDDP additive is the one that you would use. Scamazon sells for about $9.
