How does the USMNT even judge whether or not it has a "golden generation"? You can't make that claim simply by playing concacaf matches.
They make it based on the fact that they've never had a roster full of players playing in top leagues around the world. Before, it was always a squad made up of a bunch of MLS players one or two playing at a high level league. The frustration comes from the fact that we have players playing in the Champion's League unlike before, yet they are achieving even less than what those past US squads. They're the golden generation because logically, they should be able to achieve much more than any previous squad the US has ever had. That's why people point to the coach and blame him for how they are underperformed. He's a mediocre coach who was not even successful in bottom of the barrel MLS.

Nigel had the nicest way of saying the US players and poignantly - manager - are naive. To compare to a US sport like basketball... at the end of a game, I saw Dru Holiday make an absolutely genius defensive play that sealed a win. He wasn't scoring a million points but he made THE play with his footwork and reading the play and then dictating a finish on the other end. The US doesn't have that consistently across the roster and they definitely don't have that in management.

Not even with Bielsa out the US is going to have a chance. Uruguay will play with the first team (whatever that means for you, for Bielsa what is needed for the team playing against) if you pay attention to Bielsa's competitive mindset. The entire bench is first class in UY. Do your homework. Great to know one of you understood the psychology of the game. He's not creating a winning culture, it's always been there. He's just a great coach that capitalizes on that Uruguayan competitive nature. How else, a country of 3.5 million, can make and spit out so many world class players?

This is kind of frustrating. Nigel really has interesting points to the game but they keep flippin' talking over him. Meanwhile he tends to wait to finish. There's a cadence/professionalism the other hosts are missing (due respect). I mean all the points were valid but he never seemed to get to finish his.

We need to fire berhalter. Anybody with eyes, can see how differently we played as a team when he was dismissed before. He routinely makes horrible decisions and coaches us to go for ties or holding a 1 goal lead.
The US needs a new manager because they are still so poor at the simplest things great nations just take for granted - good first touch, quick and controlled passing, showing for the ball, making intelligent runs. The skill level of the play has stagnated since all the way back to Arena and it's simply not good enough to compete in big tournaments.

Landon Donovan was the best American player and the 2002 team USA will never be topped until you have a great player like Landon Donovan who believes in USA soccer and doesn't need to play in Europe to believe he can compete. Jeurgan Klinsman was the lamest example of a head coach. He placed nothing but doubt in the minds of all players and fans because he didn't believe in the USA.
