I’ve supported US Soccer for 34 years. If we get grouped and the USSF retains Berhalter, or replaces him with another American MLS legacy, I’m done. This organization is not serious about on field success. Anyone who says so is ignorant or lying. We get treated like we’re stupid while they serve us the same mediocre bullshit year after year. Screw this shitshow. They don’t respect the fans enough to even try to put a winning product on the field, so why invest money, time, and emotions into supporting this crap if it continues like this?

This team under Berhalter has lost a lot of Concacaf teams in important matches:
-Lost to Canada in WCQ 2022.
-Lost to Costa Rica with their alternative squad in WCQ 2022.
-Lost to Panama in WCQ 2022.
-Lost to Trinidad again in Nation's League.
-Eliminated by Panama in Gold Cup 2023.
I had a feeling the US would lose to Panama in Copa America and they did!
What's worse is that for the FIRST TIME, a Concacaf team have beaten the US in an important match on home soil. The match from last year, even though the US was eliminated in the Gold Cup, it actually counted as a tie.

You guys don't get with Darwin. He scored in the las 7 consecutive games for Uruguay, something that Forlan, Cavani or even Suarez never did. I don't care if he misses 10 chances as ling he score one every other game or every game. Also his work without the ball is amazing always creating space for the other players. Against Panama and Bolivia you can see 4 players going after him. That's why the other Uruguayan players got to score. One of a kind, a different striker as Luis Suarez said long time ago. Good luck USA, may the best team win.

greetings from Uruguay! Not gonna lie... you guys have it tough as heck.
Let me give you a bit of insight of uruguayan culture. We are just 3 million people. We don't have much going for us other than football and we take a huge pride in it to the point of being more important than religion. We might rest some players but there's no way we are gonna take it easy, in fact, I'd say the subs that replace those resting players will fight tooth and nails to earn their spot in the main team, there's a reason grit is the defining feature of our football style.
To give you an idea of our culture, back in 1950... yes... 74 years ago, we defeated Brazil at the world cup finals at their new home stadium Maracaná. Since then, the "Maracanazo" (the day we stole the cup from under their noses) has been a foundational block of our identity (I'd compare it to americans teasing brits with how they "saved their asses" on WWII)... so yeah... nothing we like more than beating home teams.
Anyways, I hope you put a fight, I'm one of the weird ones that think that the US team could be a football powerhouse if you set your minds on it The college scholarships program is an athletic genius factory. I think you are setting your minds to it now with Messi, Suarez and many more playing on the MLS, I'm optimistic for the US team's future.... but yeah... today's likely not gonna be your day.

Sadly, I'm not very optimistic about this match. Uruguay are a terrible matchup. They're an excellent defensive team with very talented players. They can allow the US possession and absorb some pressure and capitalize on counterattacks from turnovers. Realistically, I think it's going to be 3-nil Uruguay. I'm just hopeful that we play with good spirit and creativity. Under GGG, though... :(

I'm a DC United supporter and I remember how brilliant Jaime Moreno (he might still be my favorite player ever) was and I also remember Marco Etcheverry. They don't have anyone close to their quality anymore. But Panama will be without their best player and like you said Bolivia might play freely. Fingers crossed... ;)

I know it's wishful thinking, (and "the grass is always greener...") but I really wish the US Soccer Federation had really considered Pellegrino Matarazzo as the new manager. I don't know a lot about him or his tactics, but he's actually a successful manager in a top league unlike Berhalter. And look how Canada are doing under Jesse Marsch...

A lot of media, including some in the "mainstream", are saying "there is pressure on GGG to win this game" or that "this is a must-win game". What evidence is there that USSF considers getting out of the group a bare-minimum achievement? What evidence is there that USSF has ANY performance expectations for the USMNT? USMNT fans can complain about GGG all they want, but USSF probably only really cares about whether the pay-to-play systems feeds enough money into their pockets. In as much as the USMNT serves as a carrot for that pay-to-play system, they care. Having a wholesome, slightly charismatic coverboy like Puli (not to take away from his formidable soccer skills) is all the PR the USSF needs from the USMNT. Why is GGG's "system" forced down to the youth levels? To serve as a carrot for that pay-to-play ("oh look, your son excels in the youth system which provides a pathway to the senior team")

Even beating Uruguay may not be enough to advance. The two tie breakers are 1. goal differential and 2. goals scored. If it is still tied then head to head would be next. Right now we hold a 2 goal advantage in differential but both teams have scored 3 goals. If Panama beats Bolivia by 3 goals or more, then we have to beat Uruguay and score at least 3 goals doing it or Panama will advance over us. If we can somehow beat Uruguay and Panama can only beat Bolivia by 2 goals then we are through. Uruguay is through in almost every scenario unless we smack Uruguay and score a bunch on them. I don't see that happening.

What's whit that? If you want to take away Italy's England, Germany (Two countries) etc go ahead, 50 years passed for Argentina to win a cup but hey, they are popular so why not team up with them? hahahaha Laughable. This is football anything can happen, let's just hope FIFA stays out of the game and the best Team wins. Enough with arranging fixtures for Messi to make it to the end. AGAIN>

A successful tournament? If the USA squeaks out of the first round of games, but goes on to win the tournament, I would consider this a successful tournament for the USA. Ok, so maybe if it wins the Uruguay game, and wins the next elimination game, I would consider this a successful tournament as that result would be a reasonable result regardless of how the USA got out of the first round of games. But, as you suggest, if it barely gets out of the round robin games, and then crashes in the next game, no, that would be unsuccessful and I would advocate for firing the coach.

It has absolutely nothing to do with budgetary constraints or the coach or the ref or the field or the weather. It has everything to do with culture. Soccer is a pastime in the US. In Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil - it’s a religion. As an 80’s kid growing up in South Florida, it was tough to round up enough kids to form a team in the league. Our coaches were baseball coaches. There have been improvements since then, sure. But, this will take a few more generations, at least. Hopefully, the US bandwagon fans will stick through the pain and suffering. And, hopefully the pay-to-play mentality will change.
There is no chance that Uruguay (even their B team) is going to lose to USA right now. They are arguably the best team in all of the Americas, and contenders for the World Cup. Sitting back and being content with just making it out of the group stage is not in Uruguay’s DNA. They are going to go out there, press their opponents all over the field nonstop, and dominate all aspects of the game. Start packing, USA. 🇺🇾

Luckily for the USA Uruguay is virtually on the quarterfinals.. they have a big Goal Difference cushion that makes it almost impossible to lose first seed in the group giving them the benefit to more than likely rest most of their players if not all of them… Because of that USA have a real chance to win this game …
Panama team have being missing 4 main players (2 defenders, 1 midfielder and 1 forward) since the beginning of the tournament.. loosing 2 more (midfielder and a forward) during the games went on .. we also had our squad reduced to 25 (all the others have 26) because of a stupid federation procedure mistake.. we are really running on fumes … I do hope we beat Bolivia .. USA only scored 2-0 on them so taking all of the above in consideration I don’t se us scoring more than 2 goals or 3 goals.. hoping they don’t score on us .. ball is round .. and of course hoping Uruguay give us a hand …
