    Sorry to say, but your test comparison seems flawed. Adobe color profile destroys the color for the R5/R6 raw files. If you want to compare colors of Canon/Sony cameras, maybe better to use jpgs or use canons dpp to convert the raw files. Then it would be more accurate comparison and an interesting one. 👍🏼

    At 2:20 you make an assumption of sorts when you say "you're always going to edit them." I make hiking videos and gear reviews and I ABSOLUTELY hate editing colors. I am ok with color correction (changing gain and lift,) but I am not editing colors because I want to have a life. I am extremely lazy and want the colors to come out right the first time with standard picture profiles. Kraig Adams has a huge YT channel, makes films for a living, and he uses a standard picture profile no matter what he shoots on. The standard color profile coming out of a Panasonic S5 is all I need but I do wonder about the Canon. That's why I watched your whole video and liked it! Thanks sir.

    Just did a wedding with the R5, shot Raw with jpg backup, the jpg looked so good i hardly touched the raw files, i was struggling to make them look as good as the jpgs, as you mentioned, still good to have the Raw in case of a bad exposure though

      I’d totally believe that! I just had this conversation with someone over in SPS. We both agreed that shooting in RAW + JPG is the way to go with R5 / R6!

    • @KyleShultz6
      @KyleShultz6  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seriously it’s difficult to make simple edits to the RAW file to make it looks as good as the cooked Canon file!!

      On the same boat, i love the jpegs and struggling with the raws. Somehow they look a bit green and flat. Don't know what to do already for a month. (Used to work with 5dm4) the old presets don't work at all, build the new and still not happy :(

    On the Sony, if you turn “ DRO” in camera off, in post the raw file exposure will look just like the viewfinder. 😌

    I tried to check this for my R5 and I found that I like the *RAW* file's color more than the "fake preview" lol. Tho I shot in manual not AV.

    Fantastic observation. I think. you are saying that Canon has a great JPEG engine rather than magic in RAW.

    Unfortuantely not true. I've been shooting with sony and recently tried and switched to canon. I now usually dont use lightroom that much unless I do local editing for landscape shots. Because adobe seems no longer making matching presets in lightroom for CR3 files anymore on R5 and R6. Therefore you don't get that "Canon colors" people refer to in lightroom with a few clicks anymore, unless you use other profiles, something like color fidelity's profile. (Which still it is just unofficial profile and doubtly as close as how the Canon DPP renders color if any). My usual workflow would be to convert/export the raw files from DPP with the standard preset, and you get that Canon color/rendering, and then the option to any do further editing if needed(DPP has no local editing and lacks many other things as well). It sounds like pain in the arse of a workflow. But as someone from Sony who is significantly moved by how the Canon's rendering(both in camera, and DPP.) deal with color I'm not going to back to Sony and scratch head each time I trap myself with color tweaking. Plus, after owning the latest version of 2.8 trinity for Canon, I think their lenses are better than my Sony counterpart as well.

    It’s because the canon sensor needs to be underexposed. The dynamic will be much higher with this technic.

    its 2022 now - i just switched from R to R5. and this shift of colors has been driving me insane. I find canon pushes towards red - which i cant stand. so frustrated dont know what to do.
    tried adobe profiles, camera matching and Color fidelity but its just not that color perfection from Canon which i was loving till the R.

    do u have turned off auto light optimizer on canon??

    • @KyleShultz6
      @KyleShultz6  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes indeed, I have ALO set to "OFF" from the default level 2 range. I've always set it to off being a RAW shooter and knowing that it doesn't affect the RAW file. That said, def a good call thinking that perhaps it was set to on and thus still affecting the thumbnail. Unfortunately, it's indeed set to off.

    why canon in aperture priority mode is so dark. is Sony in aperture priority mode more accuare?

    • @KyleShultz6
      @KyleShultz6  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, from what I see, absolutely. Canon has always underexposed RAW by around 2/3 stop. Easily corrected in post, but it will be significantly darker on screen than what you saw on back of camera.

    What’s everyone’s opinion on canon vs Nikons colours ?

  • @bozmundarts2614
    @bozmundarts2614 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    i remember having a canon m100, but sometimes the colors felt pushed awkwardly to a certain direction, like warm colors' saturation, a little too much, i specially moticed upon looking back at my canon's photos.. now having a sony camera, i can say i dont have a color preference... i just edit any photo if the color doesnt match what i see (specially for photographin paintings and such)

    Are those previews what the JPEG would look like? Is the preview just a processed mini version with the same “picture style” you have chosen? Or would the JPEG also look different from the embedded preview?

    • @KyleShultz6
      @KyleShultz6  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can confirm that these embedded previews are indeed exactly what the JPEG files would look like. Preview is def a mini version of the JPG!

    I shot with almost every camera. All the comparisons on youtube are useless. Though sometimes all brands look the same, especially in good daylight, they all differ when the light gets complicated, and it's not just white balance. In my opinion there are two brands that doing exceptionally well in terms of colors, those are Nikon and Panasonic. There are two brands that are poor: Canon and Sony. And there is one brand that I'm conflicted about, that is Fuji, which gave both the best and the worst colors. Bottom line, in my experience Nikon is reliably the best, and Sony is reliably the worst.

    I struggled with these issues for a looong time. The answer to solving your canon images looking same in edit as in camera is....? Wait for it... CAPTURE ONE!! Thank me later! No more muddy images. Out of camera and raw output on pc/iMac screen looks EXACTLY same. Lightroom just sucks in translating these images on screen.

      I know right… its funny how so many people don’t know what to do… if you are looking for canon colours then you need to apply the canon colour profile..same goes for every brand.. seeing the adobe colour profile and judging the colours is the wrong approach

    Bunch of BS. The white haired guy is full of it. I shot Sony and sold it because Canon color is better. Whether you like it or not, as a working pro, the Sony cameras suck as do their color they produce. And you're basing a lot of what you say on TH-cam certified "experts?"

    even canon they say that canon poor Dynamic range but client or the viewers still choose canon because color... even u have great camera or lens or Composition or dress etc if the color they don't like the client or viewers will not get react or likes . .. yes as Photographer they don't need that perfect color science but if we have a client or impressed to others i think we will not choose our desire ... we will choose a camera better colors science for client we will sure they like or Viewers.. . 🤔

    I buy camera for its durability, ergonomics, and lense, lense, lense, lense,.
    BTW, Jared Polin uses eos R5 on his TH-cam channel because it has much better color, much sharper 4K than Sony A7siii,.
