  • Why try when others are better than you? In this insightful and eloquent talk, Peter Yang provides a logical case for optimism by sharing his journey of publishing a book at 15. Tired of motivational speeches and empty encouragement, he uses real-life examples, thought-provoking questions, and personal anecdotes to explain why pessimists are losers -- and why optimism is key to human progress. Peter Yang is a high school student from Hamilton, Ontario. He is the international #1 bestselling author of The Art of Writing and the CEO of Reviewerly, Inc. Since getting published at age 15, his book has sold thousands of copies worldwide and gained over 100 reviews on Amazon.com, outranking industry classics like The Elements of Style. His startup received $3,000 in funding from McMaster University's Forge business incubator, where he set a record as the youngest founder to ever get accepted. His company has also been featured on Global News Radio, The Hamilton Spectator, Cable 14, and the front page of Product Hunt. Peter was recognized as a finalist in Innovation Factory's 2020 LiONS LAIR pitch competition and has been fortunate enough to deliver talks at the DeGroote School of Business and Hack the Hammer II. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

"By being realistic, by definition we can only maintain the reality we have, if we wish to improve reality then we must be optimistic." Love the thought process.

I love it, Peter. Your stories were great! I'm an author so I could relate to so much of this. Plus, I'm an optimist. It's definitely been a blessing for me. It helps me find hope. Optimism has give me courage and confidence. I enjoyed the "outline" of your talk - you start with stories, statistics, questions and thought-provoking examples. You end with a challenge too. Thank you!

Regarding Kennedy's famous speech about the moon, there's a video on TH-cam titled "What Were the Real Reasons Why We Stopped Going to the Moon?" by Curious Droid that explains the real reason behind that speech.

It's not that my vote doesn't matter, it the fact that I don't have anyone to vote for. The options given are not the best so I will not vote.
