It very well could be that someone found her along the highway or something and thought she was abandoned so adopted her. Then moved. The maybe she ran away again and got take to the shelter.

So my ex jumped in his car, got onto the freeway, located them, chased them, and forced their car over onto the side of the road, and forceably took his little dog out of their car. They were shaken he would pursue them and b aggressive with them, but he was angry and determined.
They were shaken? Screw them! Dog thieves. To be so narcissistic to be shaken when someone else is losing their beloved family member because of their selfishness. Too bad! Don’t take what isn’t yours! Our parents raised us with ‘if it isn’t yours, don’t touch it.
This is why microchipping your dog is so important. A dog tag on a collar is great and all but collars fall off and get lost. A microchip is a bulletproof way for you to be reunited with your pet.

They were working out in his yard and we went into his back yard, dog in the front yard. My mom assumed it was a lost stray and called it into her car and took it home. Thinking what? I guess call around shelters for a lost dog? Idk. But I called her that night just to talk and she told me about the stray puppy she rescued off the side of the road on my street. So I asked. From my neighbors front yard? Her, but I was afraid someone dumped it there and it would get in the road and get hurt. Needless to say I drove across town to rescue the dog my mom rescue stole to return it to my neighbor. She did that a lot. I also had a patient who’s daughter found a dog and gave it to her so I asked if she checked a chip or asked around and she said absolutely not it’s my dog now… So I personally think vets should scan the chip every vet visit to confirm it’s still working and that it’s not a mistakenly rehomed missing pet.

Mishka will never be the same. The Mishka that went missing does not have the same personality as the dog that returned. What I mean is, it’s still Mishka - but the journey changed her. A long adventure such as that leaves a great impact on one’s character. Mishka will carry the memories of her long journey with her for the rest of time.
I've adopted two older dogs that were badly mistreated. It took about two years for them to trust me. But when they did, these two angels were the best dogs in the world. Mishka will eventually be ok.
Happy for her recovery and reunion. If only dogs could talk is a book I wrote when my dogs were taken. And more recently, my other two dogs went missing, one of them just returned but the other dog is still missing. Hoping I have her soon. 🙏🏼

Dude my dog looks EXACTLY like this lol. I always knew she was terrier mixed with something else. But with a chihuahua? The dog itself seems a lot bigger than your average chihuahua.
I’m guessing since she hung around her owner’s repair shop, she jumped into someone’s vehicle and hitched a ride! Or someone took her. It would be nice to know what really happened. It could be that a truck was open and she jumped in, got comfortable and fell asleep, the truck got closed up and they left. Then maybe she jumped out when they reached their destination and opened the back again? You would think the truck driver would hear her back there. She’d be super hungry and thirsty even if they drove straight to Michigan without stopping for sleep, except for gas and food. I’m just happy that she is home safely again. Poor thing. She’s actually a lucky girl.

I made sure to keep a close eye on him after that, just in case. Some people won’t wait to find a dog like yours, if they like them.

That person gushing over an animal might have stolen it, so always scan for a microchip, even if laws are not in place.
…and the dog was missing for 8 months. Assuming the dog nappers DIDN'T take it to vet assuming it might be chipped, or just didn’t care about it’s well being. It was the shelter who scanned and called the owners.
Our dog was stolen and I checked with all the vets within ten miles. None of them would look at the pics or talk to me. This was a registered purebred. The vets didnt want to lose the business of the thieves. Their $$$ was more important than us getting our dog back. Vets are not good people.
