Water Heater in Overland Truck (hot water and engine pre-heater)

- A complete explanation on why and how we installed a water heater in our overland truck. Hot water system that takes up no space in our Land Rover Defender camper build. It's also an engine pre-heater for winter season.
We didn't go for the Webasto Thermotop Evo5 and chose the Eberspaecher Hydronic S3 D5E because of a very important feature.

Good to have a supportive partner in such a project.
😊 also great to have a partner that does all this for his family 🙂 He doesn't care about hot water ;)
@@offtrackfamily Happy wife happy life.

Hi this is very interesting. We have a 2.4 TDCi too and are planning an overland conversion over the next few years. Could you please add details about the actual parts used and the connections ? @thebluelandy used just the coolant system in their TD5 without using a preheater, using the engine block’s residual heat through a heat exchanger, which I think is a good idea too if you don’t need a preheater. I’d like to understand how the switching between preheating and water heating works
Another great video 👍
Ya with a custom setup it’s always good to be apart of the build. You’ll know the parts that most likely will have a problem we’re as a garage won’t have any idea. It is a cool idea. I’d love to see this beast when it’s done.
Absolutely! And also can't wait to have it all done, seems an eternity but we're close to the end 👍
Thank you very much for this video. I also want to install a hot-water-system like that. Now I have a tutorial!
Happy if it helps! :)
Absolutely great content! I'm just planing to have similar hot water system for my Hilux conopy camper. Than you. Very inormative.
Happy you enjoy and found useful info for your build :)
Very nice 👌🏾
🙌👍
I am thinking of doing the same build for our Landy. Planning a overland trip to the UK in 2 years time
This is a great plan and a lot of work too :)
You can get a hydronic heater (basically a radiator with a fan) the runs with your water heater set up & do away with the diesel heater. I watch a channel called Dares Drives a while ago, where he built his van as a full hydronic heating & hot water system.
Will check that out, thanks for sharing
Nice set up im looking for just an engine pre heater with winter fast approaching
Interesting in the different operating heights though not so much of an issue for me.
It's those details that make the difference when out there. Connecting to the cabine heater system is also a nice option to heat the interior when engine is off.
@@offtrackfamily Mines a pick up Puma so cabin warms up quickly but would be even faster with a engine pre heater. The main idea is to preserve engine though.
👍👍👍

hello, you mention about a one way valve 4 entry point's, can I ask where you got this please. thank you, my husband is just fitting one to our defender
We live in South Africa, drive a Landover Defender 2.5l 300tdi called Maggie
Would you ship it or drive all the way to the UK ?
We will overland threw Africa and do all the interesting things and see the Gamereservers.
Hi, nice job, can I have a question, which exchanger you use, thanks
Thanks! It's this one from amazon amzn.to/466eqnh
Do you really need the pre heater?
Engine preheater, yes to preserve the engine a little more during winter season and also regarding where we want to travel
@@offtrackfamily thanks for the reply. I was just wondering since you had the defender for 10 years without it and it was fine.
