      I have done it multiple times now (as a part-time collection buyout/ reseller person). I have developed a system on how to buy collections based on the average value per item in the collection. If it's a premium collection, the average value per item is usually $50+, which means a majority of the games will be easy to sell individually. Those collections I can usually go between 50% - 65% of value when buying them.
      Lesser collections are full of filler games that lower the average value per item significantly, sometimes to less than $20. These collections I don't even go after anymore due to the difficulty in making my money back. If I do buy them, I am usually offering 40% of value or less.
      I did buy a collection that was near-full sets of N64 and GameCube a couple of years back, and I STILL have games left over from that buyout that have not sold individually. However, it was from a friend who understood my process, so I still did okay in the end. Both parties were very happy with it.

      I've been reselling games from FB to Ebay and average about 28% return on average. As mentioned in the video that's about 10% of 200%+ ROI games skueing the data, removing outliers might be around 15%. Hardest part is finding someone willing to sell at 60% value. Make about $30k/yr and is definitely a part time job amount of hours.

      I'm in the process of selling my collection and agree with everything you say it is a slow grind alot of time spent selling stuff individually. I just been grinding away on it daily, spend an hour or two each day taking pictures and creating listings but stuff will sit there for months not selling even with a decent BIN price and all. The higher valued items I been doing 7d auctions on and having decent success, though the number of deadbeat bidders not paying up after seems to be increasing which is very annoying!

    After watching this video, seeing the price in your spreadsheet, the timeframe of the sale and the fact that you used Ranier Consignment, I can confirm 100% that I have your old copy of Cheetahmen II. With a few more bidders that could have easily swung another $1000 your way, but for whatever reason nobody else was interested. Thanks for giving me the chance to own it, it is the crown jewel of the collection and something I plan to hold onto for a good long while.

    Sold my collection of nes and snes, over 300 items, earlier this year for around $4000 between two local independent stores, price chart had it at around $10000. When I did the math it was about what I figured I would get, there were a ton of systems and controllers that weren’t really worth much and a lot of titles that were worth like $12. I didn’t want to be stuck with piecing out all the cheap stuff, so I just pulled the trigger, I was happy with the outcome. I got most of the collection like 30 years ago from other kids for whatever money I had in my pocket at the time.

    I cannot remember the last time I sold something and did free shipping (seller pays shipping). I have not found that to increase the amount buyers are willing to pay AT ALL. I always list items at or below market value plus shipping. I think buyers have become accepting of the fact that shipping is no longer free (unless you're Amazon, and even then, the buyer is indirectly paying for that through their membership).

    • @GetTheGreg

    Great video. I appreciate the fact that you get it. There are so many people out there who expect to get 100% of market value or more for their large collections. Just recently found a local dude was trying to sell his collection of DS games. He had some great titles in there but pricecharting had it valued at around $2300 and he wanted $4500!! He said that his games were worth more than what pricecharting said, which I could appreciate when you’re dealing with mint condition cardboard for nes/snes but for DS, eBay sold listings are an pretty good indicator of value.
    I tried to explain to him that if he wanted to sell his entire large collection to one buyer he should expect to get around 50%-70% of value because that person would have to put in the work to resell some of it, but he just couldn’t get it through his thick skull.

  • @expensivecardboard
    @expensivecardboard 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    First off, greg is the king of spreadsheets.
    I did recently sell my psp collection a few hundred titles. All condition wise from loose umd to sealed. I went ahead and pricecharted everything and the value was 2k. I ended up getting a fraction of that price. Met up local and the deal is done.
    Would i perfer to sell them myself? Yes but here the catch first ive been slacking on listing them on ebay and second i have a time crunch where i need to sell quickly due life itself (moving and new career).
    And your more than right in selling a game for under $15. Plenty of the titles i had were under that price and a big stack of sports as well.
    For the reseller who bought them and will take the time to list and ship. Cutos to them. Probably will make a decent amount
    Some time has passed since the deal and do i regret selling them all? The answer is no. Majority of the titles i had no connection to and man it feels so nice to have that space back.
    as of now ive think ive sold around 500-600 games in total since the downsizing and still have a big chunk to move along.
    Ps. I already have a modded psp so i can play all the titles via emulation.

    When I was a kid sold my Pokemon Leaf Green for three bucks like an idiot because my deleted my save file. Every since then it's effected how I feel about selling off parts of my collection. I've still sold some games, but most of them are modern ones that can be replaced easily. Honestly if I could guarantee I could get some games back really easy then I would sell and rebuy from time to time, but because of how expensive and harder it is to get certain games I just decide if I let go of one then it's out of my collection for good that helps when selling it. Most of my buys are games I want to catch up on the games I missed out on when I was young so I don't sell too often.

      @@GetTheGreg yeah. And at any point you might go through a similar phase even with your current collection, or life pushes you towards a new phase as well. Most collectors I've talked to say having kids had the biggest impact on how they collect, considering, priority, time, focus, and budget. I know, also losing family members, as you may have to take on a different role in the family. You never know. So unless you are a stone cold investorino with excess resources, and even then, it's wise to be cautious and aware of times ahead. One other question (since you kept some stuff): how many cibs did you sell vs. loose carts? In my experience most loose carts are tough to sell. I mean if you are not gonna play it, why buy it. Its like so many collectors love to push the narrative of, "im just collecting every Dreamcast game because its a passion project." It is funny how that passion project involves you selling a ultra rare game for 600 bucks, lol. Just be honest.

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I disagree. Many do just collect for the sake of collecting while barely playing the games. Collecting is collecting, gaming is gaming. They don't have to overlap.

      @@GetTheGreg I mean if you won't sell your collection that's one thing. Mean so many collectors of games say they do it just to do it, at least you just got tired of it which is understandable. So many say that, just to turn around and sell perfect 9 graded copy of Mario 64, lol.

      Yea, a lot of people are fake about wanting to collect and only care about the money, I'll agree with that!
