You forgot THE most expensive game, Super Mario Bros 1 in the retail box. Why? Because for the first few months of the NES lifecycle, Gyromite (and R.O.B.) were included and NOT SMB1. When R.O.B. failed, the NES then began being sold with SMB included and nobody needed to buy it separately. Because of this short timespan, SMB sold separately in the retail box was relatively limited. If I could've saw the future I would've saved mine. So yes, I have a separate retail copy, but not the box :(
Why would anyone want to for those prices? There's far better games that cost $5-$10 dollars both retro and modern. This is just elitist collectors that gave into propaganda over reason.
I know the guy who sold the $11k Mega Man 5 screw. He didn't even know he had that variant. He just heard about it and decided to check his collection, and sure enough, it was a 5 screw variant.
Ducktales being packed in shredded money sounds mad illegal LOL Shoutout to anyone else who checked their collection to see if their 100 dollar copy of Mega Man was actually a 10,000 dollar copy of Mega Man btw
I've been watching this channel for years and I have to say that I am enjoying this diversion into more Nintendo topics other than just Mario and Game genie codes. Keep up the great work, Gruz!
Huh. I rented that Flintstones when I was young, and our small town rental store did offer the option to buy anything you rented. Guess I should have done that!
There were 3 "versions" of the DuckTales lunchbox releases: 150 for NTSC + 150 for PAL + unknown releases of AP (Artist Proof) edition. Artist Proof meant that it was signed by the artist himself, and thus, it wasn't numbered. That version was way more valuable than the numbered version. Back in "the golden age of collecting", AP-version went easily for about $4000-5000 complete, depending on the condition. The numbered ones went for about $2000-3000. About $2000 is what one could expect with a crappy number, which was about what I sold mine for (I had a PAL-version with a crappy number in the 50s). I saw low-numbered ones go for $3000+. 4 other high-valuable CIB NES-games worth mentioning that goes for $10000+ (CIB = Complete in box) are Mah Jong (Hong Kong), Myriad 6-in-1, Caltron 6-in-1 and Snowboard Challenge (ESP) Always fun to see a channel that I am a fan of pull up these lists. As someone who's a PAL/SCN-collector, I wish you would've at least mentioned in the description that these are the top 10 most expensive NTSC/american games, although that's just details. Keep up the good work! :)
The five screw Mega Man is insanely rare. I really wonder how many copies actually exist, because I’ve been looking for one for about 25 years and I’ve never seen one. I know it exists, but it exists outside the normal realm of rare five screw status. That’s why it’s so expensive. I’ve owned three CIB “Dr. Wright” versions of Mega Man and all of them three screw.
A friend of the Family just died recently and left us all his vintage games to spread around the family. On top of classics like Earthbound and Xenogears wouldn't you know it.. Little Sampson. I couldn't believe it.
Very good video I enjoyed it a lot. Didn't even know of the strip poker game. I sure would've loved to play that in the 90s!... When I wasn't playing Leisure Suit Larry on the computer.
I dropped 100 on Dragon Quest 3...and Dragon Quest 4 for 150 recently. Lord have mercy... And Surprise at Dinosaur Peak used CIB was in my local game store for 2200
Wow hardcore collector lol my filthy casual self would just get the switch versions (dqm counts as dq4 sequel to me, especially considering versatility in party members and cameos from final boss Psaro's point of view). Do hate that dq3 isn't that customizable given the sexy/vamp personality spiking stats with women and only using thief, merchant and martial artist for early game though you could make a merchant into a martial artist to get 10k gold with a high lucky dig (gadabout sucks outside whistle for metal slime hunting). Still, it is fun to track prices, and I'm glad psvr2 is gonna be great this Q4 2023 with angry birds, a lower $350 gently used price and a buncha releases. I admit the range of expensive games is interesting.
I have about 15 five screw games that I got when I was a kid back in 85-86. No Mega Man but have Kid Icarus, Super Mario Bros and some other good games.
now, i know this isnt a game genie video, but i just found a new one and its way too cool to pass up on! PULLEY makes it so that when you are moving, you float! if you move fast enough you fly! to go back down you have to stop moving. please check this one out in the next game genie vid!
Physical copy: -Impossible to find -Costs thousands of dollars -Can't actually play it because ware decreases value Emulation: -Easily available -Free -Might get a pc virus but probably wont
@kip7414 thankful for ninja jajamaru, arcade archives and telenet. Capcom town has a few online games to legally emulate like breath of fire or Super ghouls 'n ghosts.
If you actually want to play any of these games. I mean other than Little Samson these games are expensive because they’re either the limited edition version, or they’re just terrible games that have such limited quantities that that’s the reason why they’re expensive in the first place. But yeah, emulate Little Samson for sure. Duck Tales is fun, but it’s not expensive and you’re better off playing any of the Mega Man sequels honestly.
I think you mean piracy. You could own the most expensive NES game in the world and still be playing it on an emulator. Maybe you don't even need to download the ROM separately if you have an NES ROM dumping device. Besides that I agree
I cry every time I see a list like this, since I had one of those NWC cartridges!! They were giving those as the prize for winning each division at each local stop, and my neighbor won the 10 (or 12?) and under division. We played it ALL THE TIME, and when he got bored with it he traded it to me for something I can't even remember. Then my dumbass traded it again to another friend later on! 😭
We need more game stores running tournaments on the official NWC cartridges where the prize IS the cartridge. Have the entry fee high enough the store makes its money and then some from the purchase price of the cartridge. There should be more people who own these carts because they won them by being the best at the trio of NWC games than who bought them directly.
Got Little Samson as a kid, parents wouldn't buy me an SNES back then. Thought the box art looked cool. Still have the manual, sadly it's a bit damaged. No box either. Easily the rarest video game I own.
I'm pretty sure the youth center I used to go to as a kid in Ft. Rucker Alabama had a copy of Stadium Events that they let kids check out and play on the tv at the youth center. I specifically remember my friend having World Class Track Meet with a Power Pad as we know it and playing the same game with a different looking pad and name at the youth center.
Damn I had no idea "stadium events" was worth that much. Childhood Friend of mine had the game, his dad was a manager of Toys R Us back in the 90s and he pretty much got every new game. Wonder if he kept it lol.
I bought "Stadium Events" for less than a dollar, back in the old Funco {FuncoLand} era. I bought the Panesian trilogy of adult games for $25 each, I think, when a local video store closed. After completing my NES collection, the N64 was already released, and I started buying as many of them as I could... I got all of them too... 😉Sadly my NES collection is the worse for wear, as I got lots of ripped label carts and things like that, and I wanted to play the games so didn't care what condition they were in. I loved being one of the first USA players to get "Bananas Prince" beat it, and translate it into English. I do have the FDS and the 64DD, but tried to use them very little as rewriting onto the same disk felt like it would wear out the reader-writer{s}.

Thanks for the video gruz but once I saw the price for Mega Man 1 I hastily ran to my closet dug out my container full of cartridges pulled out Mega Man and was immediately crushed. It was the 3 screw variant😭. For a brief moment I thought I had something left that was extremely valuable in my collection after selling a couple of rare NES and Super NES in 2015 that I bought back in the mid 90s to early 2000s from Funcoland for cheap at the time. I sold them at the time for 2 reasons the 1st one to buy my son some clothes for school and the 2nd reason was more of an impulse to go to Las Vegas for the 1st time with my girlfriend at the time. I still have some rare Sega Genesis games in my collection which I may pass on down to my granddaughter.
@danielmrtns I think I said it wrong. We were together at the time ,got engaged in 2017 ,but over time she showed her true colors so I broke up with her in 2021. Now I'm thankful I dodged a bullet.
Back in like 1995ish the K-mart across the street from me had a good 1000 nes games they were selling on clearance for 5 bucks a game man if I could go back to my 10 year old self lol
I used to be a massive NES collector back in the day and had everything but the Panesian games (never wanted NES porn). Had NO idea Little Sampson, Power Blade II, Cheetahmen II, or Stadium Events would bring in what I sold them for years ago!! They'd have doubled had I kept them a bit longer. lol Oh well!!
Had Cheetahmen II back in 1996 I got from a collector/videogame store owner in Cleveland, Memphis Ave area. for $25. Never opened it. Sold it in a package deal. Kicking my own ass right now. Looked cheesy as hell, that's why I never opened it.
To this day I am still shocked that the 1000 (or maybe it was 100) Game Gold Cartridge has never been mentioned. I grew up playing this with my friend whose dad was a big investor type. Super rich. The game was stolen from him in the mid 2000s never to be seen again, and I haven't ever heard of anyone else hearing of it.
I paid $5 for the original Mega Man. I bought it from a local rental store when they were getting rid of NES games and focusing on SNES/Genesis games. Actually I bought Mega Man 1, 5, 6 for 5 bucks each. Sadly its the 3 screw version, but still.
I remember spending an obscene amount of time with a friend playing all the nonsense on that Action 52 cartridge. All the games were so bad, and yet weirdly endearing.
And then there is the guy who owns a SEALED CASE!!! of Stadium events. Some dude tried to buy up all the Stadium events copies and thats when Wearhouse dude who had SEALED CASES of NES games which took the known number of Sealed Copies of Stadium Events from ONE to SEVENTEEN He said "If you start trying to horde Stadium Events I CAN AND WILL END YOUR VALUE" and posted pictures of his Case of SE He could easily sell off his 16 Sealed Copies and Plummet the price.
So as someone who appreciates classic video games for nostalgia purposes but could never see myself spending 3 to 4 digits for a game...what is the appeal of having a rare or expensive NES game?
I know of another one that could be on this list. Stack Up as we all know, is one of only two games that were released for use with R.O.B. the robot. The other game, Gyromite, is pretty easy to get your hands on but Stack Up is around $180.00 for a loose cartridge and upwards of around $1,200.00 for a copy complete in box. Ouch! You could, in theory at least, lower the price by gathering the pieces separately, as mentioned above it's around $180.00 for the cartridge and upwards of around $300.00 for the empty box (though, hopefully the plastic tray is still inside so you have a place to store everything). The arms and blocks are the only problem with this equation because I haven't seen any 'real' copies for sale loose yet so I don't know how much they would typically go for these days but we'll say around $200.00 - $300.00 for sake of argument. That's around $500.00 - $700.00 all together which means that you're getting a complete copy of Stack Up for about half the price and of course the sacrifice of convenience but, hey, at least it would work...if I could only find a legit set of arms and blocks instead of cheap, 3D printed replacements. I would also like to throw in a quick correction here, I just found two copies of the Nintendo World Championships gold cartridge on EBay and the sellers were asking one million and two million respectively. I hope that nobody was dumb enough to actually pay that much knowing that they are worth about half of that.
Well how the hell do you know if you have a sealed 5 screw version of Megaman if you haven’t opened the box to look it? If you open the package to see then it’s no longer sealed now is it? Are you trying to create a paradox here?
I don't recall NES boxes really being sealed. You could just open then and put the game back in the box. And I thought the video just said "complete in box", not sealed.
Collectability seems like such a fragile thing. I could make a 1 of 1 drawing of a plant and it's worthless, even tho there is literally only 1 in the world.
Number of these games I will ever own:
0.
Hahaha same. Dude, I just adore your videos.
Nah, that duck tales 2 is obtainable. You just need the house cleaning grandma yard sale
You forgot THE most expensive game, Super Mario Bros 1 in the retail box. Why? Because for the first few months of the NES lifecycle, Gyromite (and R.O.B.) were included and NOT SMB1. I've been watching this channel for years and I have to say that I am enjoying this diversion into more Nintendo topics other than just Mario and Game genie codes. Keep up the great work, Gruz!
Even tho the video is great, updating the title to 2024 despite it being uploaded in late-mid 2023 is... kind of a bad move.
This hurts me my father owned a rental place in the 80’s we had most of these… but he sold it all in the mid 90’s.

lucky catch ! in fascinated by companies that were developing things like that in the twilight years of thise consoles
Flintstones "rental only" story is a complete myth. It was not a rental exclusive by any means. Available retail like any other game in the library.
That would be so dope to get lucky and find one of these at a garage sale or something
There most likely still out there and there could be people out there that have it and have no idea its worth anything.
Thanks for the nostalgia trip
The NWC 1990 gold cartridge is the holy grail of the NES library.

I actually saw an eBay sale for a gold NWC for A MILLION FUCKING DOLLARS
Flintstones was indeed sold in stores. The "rental only" thing is a myth to drive up price.
I was runnin across my games found metal gear nintendo and a gold catridge zelda
I still have my duck tails game.
Cheetah men 2 lol that name
Yeh im good with my nes mini 😄
I will check my Megaman now😂 i got also ducktales but not gold😢
Well how the hell do you know if you have a sealed 5 screw version of Megaman if you haven’t opened the box to look it? If you open the package to see then it’s no longer sealed now is it? Are you trying to create a paradox here?
if I had to guess, there’s a difference on the game box (like a revision number) that could distinguish 3-screw and 5-screw games.
I don't recall NES boxes really being sealed. You could just open then and put the game back in the box.
And I thought the video just said "complete in box", not sealed.
Of course I have the three screw mega man....
Just finna make repro cartridges of all deez. 😂
1:54 …or rent it from one that was about to close
Me: Cheetahmen II as a terrible game
Buddy: yeah it's the worst game of all time. Can i borrow *FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS*
So you mean the Flintstones game i had as a kid was a bootleg??
Super Mario sealed in the box mint sold for 1 million.
That’s WATA trying to abuse the video game value
Collectability seems like such a fragile thing. I could make a 1 of 1 drawing of a plant and it's worthless, even tho there is literally only 1 in the world.
No one has sold one of the 15 special edition golden nes zelda 1 carts. Because none of you are cool enough to ever even have seen one.
Isn't it a federal offense to destroy money
I watched this in 2023, now they changed the title to 2024. Laziest way to "try" and keep a video relevant longer.
I expected to see Smash tv, I think it was one of the last.
Nice! 👍🏻🇺🇲
