I would like to let everyone know that the developers have been pumping out a remarkable amount of hotfixes, literally one a day at this point, and they have ironed out a lot of bugs. Durability has been a point they have been working on, essentially making tools and such have a lot more durability, and they have also been working on the stuttering and lagging problems as well. It's not perfectly fixed yet, but they are being proactive with making the game as good as can be and are actively listening to the community for the fixes.
I think the game might be pretty close to release so this is the perfect way to early access a game. Small pay for early levels. You get feedback from people about balancing/bugs & you keep releasing something daily. It's smart@@MzAbbyxz
Facial expressions are perfect, it's a cheat code as opposed to trying to mocap everything like LA Noire but you'd end up burning through money with the internet still meme your product.😂
Why you guys always gross? If you want to immaculate then immaculate by yourself. This is like that time I was called serendipitous.. perverts everywhere
It looks fine, but it's a “git gud” game targeting greasy soulslike basement dwellers who have time to learn every dodge move for months on end. I don't want a game forcing you to spend days learning one boss. The game is way too tedious, player reviews are mostly negative as a result.
Game is honestly so much fun, the game got a balance patch in the first 24 hours and they clearly care about this game. Money well spent in my book. They fixed 3 problems he brought up in this video alone, more food, less durability loss, more repair powder, stamina cost reduction across the board. Think hes loving it now probably
Dude, 99% of negative stuff about this game can be summed up to "too difficult", "doesn't run on my computer", and "can't rebind buttons". Played 4 hours so far and yes, I can understand how people will find this hard, but I've died three times and two were fall damage and one was a glitch. Am I going to say "just get good, noobs"? No. I will offer help. Protip: If the game is too difficult you can create a new Realm and farm items in the first location (with your already made character). You can sell for money to buy stuff or craft more healing items. Protip 2: If you have low health and are near a Cerim Whisper, touch it then remove your gear and die to fall damage and you will return with full health. Full heal without using food. I tested both of these and they are viable options if you're having trouble with the game. Good luck. This game is AWESOME so far and I cannot wait for full release. I hope they don't make it too easy to appease everyone.
@@blad... Wow great tips that might get missed buried in this thread. I suggest making a new comment where you also encourage others to share their tips
I really loved it. It needs a little bit more polish, optimization, etc. And of course more story/map expansions... But the core gameplay loop feels good to me - I like the chill moments of chopping woods and mining ores, managing inventory, upgrading the town contrasted with the tough tactical combat, etc. Good balance imo
@@AtomicZamurai I don’t care about the money. I have a channel where I try to beat 100 games every year, so I don’t play early access games that are incomplete and often don’t even have an ending.
Durability is one of those things that CAN be immersive, but a lot of games end up making it feel like a chore, or make you think twice about using the Awesome Weapon you just acquired.
Moon Studios have provided two hot fixes since the early access launch, both of which addressed many of the issues this review and others have talked about. They are not just working on the game, they are WORKING on the game.
Wow an isometric Dark Souls. How inovative. Definetly never seen that before... Thank you very much for the video though. Always happy to see more from you. I love how you always try to be positive even with things you don't like.
Been playing this recently. As a big fan of the kind of micromanagement present between hunts in monsterhunter, this is the best game purchase I've made in a while
It's V-rising meets Elden ring if you ask me. Its tricky at the start. The first hour can be rough (I debated refunding) but glad I stuck around. Combat is weighty and satisfying, enemies can feel unfair at the start but once you work out parries and dodging to expose critical backstabs it becomes a lot easier. I'm currently level 17 and so far I can trivialise most mobs. Definitely some things to fix (no option to respec. certain materials don't drop often enough).
Should I buy it? I already bought Hades II, but I'm a do 3-4 runs and take a break kind of guy, so I need another game to play while I'm in between runs, BTW Hades II is phenomenal in every way, shape and form.
A lot of the real and fair problems with the game is now fixed. Durability is not an issue anymore you can probably die 20 times now before repair and chop down like 20-30 trees/ veins etc before repair. You are already very very good at combat. But you are actually not exploring much. And therefore super underleveled. After 1st boss you will have 5 zones and some of the zone will have enemies you can farm. It’s not like Elden ring but you can still farm xp. Some areas will always have enemies. Upgrade and enchant/ infuse gear. Get 1or 2 health regen items or the health leach ring. Game becomes easy. One of the best games I played in a while.
I picked up this game because I was super excited to try it out. I don't regret it but I'll be doing the same thing as Jake, putting it down for a while. There are some glaring issues. My biggest gripe is how tedious everything is right now. All the weapons feel a little too samey. The weight system is brutal in the early game. Everything weighs a little too much so you can't really wear / use what you want or equip the gear you want. The first town you encounter is a maze and a huge pain in the ass to figure out. There's just too much I don't like at the start. I'm hoping it gets a bit better.
So one thing that people were hating alot (early on, but they buffed it significantly, really quickly) was the durability. But even without buffing it, all you needed (then) was to add the (repair) rune on a 2nd or 3rd main hand. Build up 150 focus, swap to it, repair and Voila. Now though after all the durability buffs, that rune is sort of obsolete to me. You have to repair very seldomly, and when you need to repair it only cost like 40-60copper (I remember before the first buff to durability I needed to spend well over 2silver to repair everything!!!) So yeah, the devs have been quite actively making adjustments. Can't wait for more of the story to be unfolded, and to see what's next cuz right now it's like if you were to start Path of Exile, and play through act 1 and only act 1. So much more to uncover.
this game reminds me of the rpg games back in the early 2000's. this style isnt new, in fact, its quite old i still remember i use to play a rpg that was almost exactly like this but less polished and in team form
I was really looking forward to this until I saw how terrible the weapon degradation system was. I will skip, and hope they iron it out for the full launch.
I saw a trailer for this game pop up on my Facebook a little while ago. I love top down games like this, and as an artist myself, games with interesting and different artwork like this really intrigue me. I'm excited. I have it in my wish list on my PS5. I wish PS would dip their toes into Early Access stuff like this, but like you, Jake, said in the video, let it cook for a little longer before diving in. If I can wait for Cyberpunk, I can wait for this.
I know you want Before You Buys out as soon as, but man I wish this could have waited a few days. It's worth saying a lot of the balancing issues you mentioned Moon have already sorted or are well on their way to be (e.g. weapon durability). I agree the game looks stunning and has a lot of potential. In terms of performance, I think it's more the game hasn't been optimised for higher end hardware. A few things I didn't agree with. I feel enemy attacks are telegraphed plenty when you really watch them and learn their attack patterns. Fighting multiple enemies does feel a bit unfair, but then 3 against 1 should feel that way with souls-like combat IMO. Maybe I misinterpretted what you meant there. I also find the fact climbing walls and shimmy ledges are less obvious quite refreshing when normally in games they're highlighted a little too much. It makes exploration just a tad more challenging. Upgrading the 'Equip load' attribute helps massively with wearing stronger and heavier gear too. All in all, I am enjoying my time with this. Haven't experienced many performance issues at all (just a couple minor frame rate drops here and there). I look forward to their future updates and content 😁
10 hours into this beauty of a game playing mostly on steam deck, I'm absolutely loving it. cant wait for all the positive changes to come as we wade through early access. Glad to hear the crashing isn't specifically steam deck related XD
This is one of those reviews from Jake that I completely 100% agree with. This game has phenomenal potential to be one of the greats, just needs tweaking in the spots he mentioned and I am very excited with the planned updates and performance fixes to get back into it.
The originality in this game was enough for me to already make it memorable. 100% worth the experience even if it never was developed further! Yet, they're pushing out updates almost daily for it. I think this is going to take a place in my favorite games book right next to Dark Souls 1. Note to @GameRanx, really polished video and I like the information presented. Pretty in-depth, good sound quality, and smooth transitions. I'd love to hear a different presentation though. Instead of pros & cons it was definitely a cons & pros approach. Felt like, 'these minor bugs here and there just are annoying me... but it's an AMAZING GAME (as an afterthought)'. Thanks for making the video none-the-less! Good work (:
Durability and food crafting is not tedious. This game wants you to backtrack areas with the bounty quests it gives it wants you to collect stuff while doing that and if you just do that (which is just playing the game, doing quests) you will have more than enough recourses. Crafting is a part of this game you even build crafting stations in your house and produce stuff. The game is a mix of dark souls combat, diablo loot and item system and, survival crafting elements. Some people always try to make games something they are not trying to be and this game is not trying to be a straight up souls like if you expect it to be that way you will be disappointed. The game does have its own problems but durability and food crafting is not one of them. Those mechanics are there to make you care about your gear and be prepared to face enemies not just throw yourself against them without thinking about it like in other games.
this game is really sick so far. has some performance issues but it’s been on the up and up with each patch. combat feels awesome and the loot system has me pretty excited
15 hours in I gotta say, if polished properly this game can be a real milestone in gaming history. The feeling is just great, the world and story is engaging and well crafted, dialogs and voices are amazing. The art style reminds be a bit of Arcane show by Riot. Once finished it'll be one of the best game of the decade for sure.
It's an amazing game. If you're a veteran souls player durability shouldn't be that big of a problem. Only real con for me is limited inventory, it's seriously limited and the worst thing is that there isn't even unlimited stash. Sure you can craft more stash space, but with the amount of looting it's really annoying to manage inventory every 10 minutes..
I really like games that are about exploration. Ori was one of these. I love Moon Studio's way of doing the textures, colors, lighting and stuff. Just their general style. The game looks absolutely fantastic. But what's constantly giving me second thoughts about this game is that it's very focussed on fighting rather than just exploring and that it's probably a game that's really hard to beat. I'm usually someone who always plays games 100% so this is a problem for me. If I'm constantly not making progress because it's just too hard, it's not gonna be fun. That's the thing. I really don't want it to feel like Elden Ring. Neither do I just want to run through it. It should be challenging, but it shouldn't punish dying when dying is what makes the player learn. You can make a game challenging in different ways. Not bosses you need 2 hours to beat. But building secrets into the world, puzzlesolving and stuff. That's obviously not what the game is about. So I'll most likely have to pass on this one and wait for their next game.
I mean, you just don't like souls likes, so this game is probably not for you. Tho from what I see it's pretty much just the combat that is "souls-like" anyway, it's just not your kind of game
great game, you forgot to mention that you can buy a house and set fourniture in it to craft stuff and more, game had frame drops but didn't crash at all after over 7 hours of gameplay, i think it needs a fast ssd to run smoothly. money becomes less of an issue after getting to sacrament, i just think it has a very long starting area
When this releases as a finished product I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the best indie game of the year of its release. It shows a ton of potential, already has a lot going right, and the dev team has a good pedigree.
I have been playing this and having an enormous amount of fun. Yeah there are some tweaks that it needs, but that's why it is Early Access. The foundation is 100% there though, and the visual style is just phenomenal.
This is my first early access game and I was looking forward to it this and I’m not disappointed but I do understand all the frustration ppl are having so far… like you I’ll adventure around the first main castle and stop right there and wait for a few updates before I get knees deep into it… but it has so much potential so I’ll let them continue to work on it before I say anything negative… great video as always looking forward to your update video on this game moving forward
I hate weapon durability in games. First time I encountered it was Legend of Zelda BOTW, and it really turned me off to the game. Great game, just hate weapon degradation. Oh, and I'll wait it to come out on the PS5.
Would be awesome if they did an online hub system like diablo and POE where u can see others in towns and outposts but in the combat zones its solo or you can group. I also think this game could be awesome with a certain aspect of a runespace-like skills system. Could be the complete package.
16 hours in game is amazing, combat is hard and you feel underleveled some times but whenever you feel powerful the combat feels so good, also the world building is amazing, u can buy a home and fully furnish it, as well as contribute to upgrade the city and vendors, there is always something to do with daily and weekly challenges that feel rewarding, my only true complaint is the weight and stamina could use some tweaking but the game has only been out for 2 days now and the Devs have dropped a road map and 2 hotfixes already so it seems very promising, overall i say BUY THE GAME ITS AMAZING
as a souls veteran in 3D and 2D, this game is great. Sure its hard but the right build wrecks everything. Sure there are problems here and there, but if EA is already this fun, can't imagine the final product
Before I buy, I wait for a game's full release. Doesn't matter if takes years like BG3. The wait is always worth playing a finished product. Sometimes I'll even wait a month after full release for the first big bug fix patch.
I paid for the early access, and will play once they are done updating the quality of life stuff. Should be a blast by a time I pick it up in December when I get done with all my other backlog
I've either never played a game like this before, or have in the past and hated it. But I really enjoy this game quite a bit. However I also agree with all of your critiques and flaws with the game. What would you recommend I try if I want something "like" No Rest For The Wicked but without the issues.
This is my favorite game that has released this year! The beginning is a bit of a slog because of the difficulty. despite some early access flaws, make no mistake, this game is very very good. If you enjoy souls like game you will likely very quickly fall in love. It's dripping with personality and love in every nook and cranny. Really looking forward to the multiplayer/co-op update that they have slated. It honestly feels like a lot of stuff is balanced for that - much like remnant in that sense.
Sounds like Moon’s decision to do early access was a good idea … these guys actually give a shit so I’m not too worried about 1.0 though. Ori games were simply incredible
Even a decent performance Patch they Pulled off 48 hours later. Great stuff. It includes a lot of balance changes. And of course stuff don't break that fast now.
The lack of keybindings honestly pisses me off despite the early access. Nearly returned the game just due to that. Overall, great potential. Ranged attackers are a royal pain in the ass along with enemies you are leaping across a gap to fight. Definitely need better identification of attacks coming at us.
The graphics are amazing. I have a backlog of games as it is, so I'll wait. But I seriously hope they polish this game. I haven't purchased an EA, Ubisoft ... AAA game in a long while. We need these games. Fingers crossed for the best.
I'm looking forward to playing this on console. While I enjoy Diablo (at least 1 and 2) it doesn't always hold me for long. It's turned into button mash, wait for cool down timers and hope for better loot to repeat. This looks right up my alley with more engaging skill based mechanics.
You echoed every thought I had about the game. I was surprised, and glad at the same time, that it wasn't just me who had problem with those issues, and at the same time would loved if the game was more approachable, cause it had so much potentiall. I've bought both Ori games, but sadly as it is right now, this is not for me.
They definitely need to rebalance the healing. I’m wilding a dual dagger and a ring that gives healing back on hit. It makes the encounters a bit too easy as I can tank through 70% of the encounters due to how much health I’m getting back from stabbing.
I am a from software veteran. Just for reference, I found ds3 to be super easy. My favorite is Sekiro. But this game is VERY HARD. So far I've played 7 hours, and the following things are the most annoying and unlikely to go away soon: 1) inventory cramped with dish recipe ingredients because you need like 4 different ingredients for ONE dish, and so logically inventory fills up FAST and going back to the Rookery to put stuff in your chest is WAY TOO TEDIOUS before you can invest in the building repairs... 2) at least in Sacramental they could give you a more in depth combat tutorial. I still don't get which enemies i can backstab and which ones i cannot. Sneaking seems dumb right now since many enemies CAN'T be backstabbed (the bigger ones) (this topic is addressed in your video) 3) a fixed minimap in HUD would be nice... instead of having to open the map in the menu 4) enemies recover WAY too fast from a heavy combo slam axe in the ground and get stuck animation. As soon as you hit them with the first swing of your rusted sword, they instantly recover and swing their humongous axe at you with tremendous speed and accuracy... very annoying. I am often torn if combat is more sekiro or darksouls... looks like shield and spear will be OP... and that is a shame. 5) i miss my parries because the enemy misses his first swing... very annoying lol. Then you're stuck in the animation and their second stronger swing hits you in the sack. 6) it takes a lot of time to gain orientation in the map. It's a complicated map and I feel it could have been simpler. But i will get used to it. Overall i am curious and like it a lot. The finished products could very well become one of the best games of the year in which it releases. I think it's a tie between getting it now at a discount but with lots of frustration .
Only one crash so far. Some minor stuttering, mostly right after startup. Even runs well on Steam Deck. Honestly having a great time with it, and so far the food hasn’t been an issue. Have only made it to Sacrament, though, and I’m not sure how much content is in Early Access so far.
i think you shoud invest in runs you know ,there are healing runs even repair runs , IDK but it kind of making it easier for me ,you only need focus wich can repleshish by attackind or bloking
This game looks absolutely gorgeous and pretty much like everything I could ever want, but given that it’s in early access with constant developer fixes and tweaks, I think I’ll just wait a while before the stability of the game is a bit more established
The game is amazing. It has the problems you should expect from an Early Access title (lack of polishin, poor performance, missing some qol, not quite balanced), but the core game is simply incredible. I'm 25 hours in, and I'm not even close to fully finishing the content that's available right now.
I only played twice so far, but I did not experience what you are talking about here. I played today after a patch came out, so maybe some of your criticism already got addressed? I had a lot of repair kids but never had to repair anything so far. Maybe I need to play longer?
I love the look of the game. It has that graphic novel, stylized look; it's like Disco Elysium, but without the psychological layers. Still, as a PC gamer I'm patience-worn for buggy games (thanks Bethesda) so I think I'll wait it out a bit.
I'll definitely wait for this one it's just really beautiful and animations are COOL, the game play looks challenging and responsive and with the looting and exploring stuff it's just the game for me I only wish it had more metroidvania stuff in it

Gives me Witcher 2 vibes
And god of war 2 from an isometric perspective
I replayed The Witcher 2 last week, how does this remind you of that?
Yea... It's nothing like Witcher 2.

@@KoKo-sk4edThis is your burner account. It replies to all your comments. Nice
Durability was already adjusted on patch 2.
this game is really sick so far. has some performance issues but it’s been on the up and up with each patch. combat feels awesome and the loot system has me pretty excited
It looks absolutely incredible. Its like the game is an animated film .
However, there is a reason Souls-like don't use Isometric Cameras .
Edit: Weapon Durability? Forget about it .
@@RobleViejo🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Get good dude
@@derektereve286 Oh I will play this game, once its modded
@@RobleViejo if you need mods then I feel sorry for you 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
It's an amazing game.
Thanks, will get it when it is finished. My guess is you will have to go back and replay anyway when the finished game is released.
From the producers of Ori? Can’t wait to play the retail release of this!
Heyyy that was my starter clothes too Jake!! Stupid backpack thing lol
I never noticed gear degredation. It was only ever an issue for the gathering tools.
this game's mechanics kinda seems like Silver (old pc game). Had a ton of fun with it
16 hours in game is amazing, combat is hard and you feel underleveled some times but whenever you feel powerful the combat feels so good, also the world building is amazing, u can buy a home and fully furnish it, as well as contribute to upgrade the city and vendors, there is always something to do with daily and weekly challenges that feel rewarding, my only true complaint is the weight and stamina could use some tweaking but the game has only been out for 2 days now and the Devs have dropped a road map and 2 hotfixes already so it seems very promising, overall i say BUY THE GAME ITS AMAZING
Reminds me of the original X-Men legends and Marvel ultimate alliance games gameplay wise
No rest for the weekend 😞
as a souls veteran in 3D and 2D, this game is great. Sure its hard but the right build wrecks everything. Sure there are problems here and there, but if EA is already this fun, can't imagine the final product
8:40 I suddenly remembered margit all over again!😂 this game look awesome❤
Before I buy, I wait for a game's full release. Doesn't matter if takes years like BG3. The wait is always worth playing a finished product. Sometimes I'll even wait a month after full release for the first big bug fix patch.
I paid for the early access, and will play once they are done updating the quality of life stuff. Should be a blast by a time I pick it up in December when I get done with all my other backlog
Looks really cool. I hope they can iron out the kinks so that the final product can live up to its potential
Seems promising. I think they can learn from V Rising in terms of resource management and RPG elements balancing.
I am absolutely loving it so far. I'm honestly hyped for replaying if major changes happens that demands it. It's just !"#%! great already.
The weighty sounds and animation sold me already
If this game would be a fly, im pretty sure this would create a genre of its own.
Oh, Moon Studios made this? Wow. No wonder this looked familiar.
This game strangely reminds me of Nox when it was pitted against Diablo 1 back in the day
You echoed every thought I had about the game. I was surprised, and glad at the same time, that it wasn't just me who had problem with those issues, and at the same time would loved if the game was more approachable, cause it had so much potentiall.
I've bought both Ori games, but sadly as it is right now, this is not for me.
My guy just learned the word tedious and really wanted to showcase it
This looks like it’ll turn out to be a banger. Super hyped for this.
Cannot wait for this game to come to console, hoping all the PC gamers help find issues and then hopefully this fall or holiday full release
This game looks nice. I'm looking forward to the full release.
They definitely need to rebalance the healing. I’m wilding a dual dagger and a ring that gives healing back on hit. It makes the encounters a bit too easy as I can tank through 70% of the encounters due to how much health I’m getting back from stabbing.
Can’t wait for the console release, it looks really interesting
Cool art style. I'll be waiting for launch though. I don't think I'll be doing much EA purchasing anymore.
I am a from software veteran. Just for reference, I found ds3 to be super easy. My favorite is Sekiro.
But this game is VERY HARD.
So far I've played 7 hours, and the following things are the most annoying and unlikely to go away soon:
1) inventory cramped with dish recipe ingredients because you need like 4 different ingredients for ONE dish, and so logically inventory fills up FAST and going back to the Rookery to put stuff in your chest is WAY TOO TEDIOUS before you can invest in the building repairs...
2) at least in Sacramental they could give you a more in depth combat tutorial. I still don't get which enemies i can backstab and which ones i cannot. Sneaking seems dumb right now since many enemies CAN'T be backstabbed (the bigger ones) (this topic is addressed in your video)
3) a fixed minimap in HUD would be nice... instead of having to open the map in the menu
4) enemies recover WAY too fast from a heavy combo slam axe in the ground and get stuck animation.
Graphics, colors and art style is looks like ori and the will of the wisp 🤩
looking forward to seeing any loki or thor cameos!
Only one crash so far. Some minor stuttering, mostly right after startup. Even runs well on Steam Deck. Honestly having a great time with it, and so far the food hasn’t been an issue. Have only made it to Sacrament, though, and I’m not sure how much content is in Early Access so far.
3:31 that janky hitbox though...
gorgeous looking game id buy just to experience the artistry alone
It’s such a great game. And I’ve not had as hard of a time as other games reading enemy moves, like elden ring… fkn brutal.
Looks awesome. Can't wait to play it on my PS5.
i think you shoud invest in runs you know ,there are healing runs even repair runs , IDK but it kind of making it easier for me ,you only need focus wich can repleshish by attackind or bloking
Are you gunna review Harold halibut?! I’m very curious to know
when is it estimated to be a full release? looks good, but i wanna let it marinate
The game looks super cool and at 60fps I’d love to see the finished product I look forward to this game
I love the look of the game. It has that graphic novel, stylized look; it's like Disco Elysium, but without the psychological layers. Still, as a PC gamer I'm patience-worn for buggy games (thanks Bethesda) so I think I'll wait it out a bit.
I'll definitely wait for this one it's just really beautiful and animations are COOL, the game play looks challenging and responsive and with the looting and exploring stuff it's just the game for me
I only wish it had more metroidvania stuff in it
And it looks painfully pretty from the art angle
I never played these type of games but this one really caught my eye
Really like how the boss character move in this game
