Down home goodness at it's finest. My Mother cooked cabbage like that also. That's how I learned to cook cabbage that way. ( It was my job to peel that ten.lb. bag of potatoes.) Thanks for reminding me of days gone by
I don't know anything about Ireland or pubs but I DO know that in the Bronx, in the 70's and 80's growing up as an African American child this wasn't anything foreign to me at all. My mom used to make this. She had a pressure cooker (the old "blow you up if you didn't know what you were doing" kind back in the day) but rarely used it. She just cooked it low and slow for hours. Only difference was the potatoes were cut a bit smaller and maybe a few more spices. Other than that I had the exact same meal growing up. I miss my mom so much. Been two years now and still dealing with it.
Good point. Funny how the cut of meat brings lots of culture from all over the world to the table. We have a lot more poor people in the world than rich. This is an old school poor man's world food. I grew up with this in my backyard too. It was a meal that was light on the pocket but took great impact on the stomach. I lost my mom around the same time. I wish I could say it gets better with time, but nothing fills the hole in are harts from losing a loved one. Thank you for sharing and watching. Blessing your way.
..and just when I thought you couldn't surprise me anymore, you posted this meal! Dad would also fry cabbage and the onions in bacon grease, until soften, and cook with hot dogs, or if he had enough money smoked Kielbasa sausage, He would make mashed potatoes, and Jiffy cornbread...I still continue to make the same meal, using chicken broth, red pepper flakes and seasonings, always with smoked sausage, and either mashed potatoes, or just simply sliced boiled potatoes with butter and herbs..
It took me 10 years to figure out how to make everything come to the table at the same time at Thanksgiving. This is good basic training that I wish I had at 21 and that I was able to give to my kids because I didn't have any until I was 40
❤❤❤HI GREAT DISH.THANK YOU FOR SHARING. I KNOW THIS MEAL IS DELICIOUS. MY MOM COOKED THIS DISH BUT I REMEMBER EATING CORNBREAD WITH THIS MEAL .WE WOULD PUT BOTH OVER THE CORN BREAD. AWESOME VIDEO.
I have never been in Ireland. But I have known this dish and all the Irish dishes that Mom learned to cook. And I worked on Wall Street back in the day just 2 blocks away was a Pub called Blarney stone Restaurant and Pub Steam table full of the things that would fill you with Love. $6 bucks get stuffed on a big plate of food. Thanks for bringing this to mind. 👍✌

Just found your channel today, love it! watching my second video now. Do you have any on a pellet smoker? That’s all I have. Still haven’t done a brisket yet on it but I want to .
Thank you! We have people like you watching so it's all good lol. A very wise man told me one day when I was a kid " Never expect anything out of anyone or anything and you will never be letdown" I live my life by this. Hope this helps you too. Thank you so much for watching.
I don't know how you knew but i was sitting here thinking "what are you going to do with the potatoes" Yes growing up in a large family in the south my moms, grands, and aunts pretty much had to cook this way so everyone could have something to eat and be/stay full until the next meal. I try to eat healthy but there are some southern dishes where you just can't do it and get the same results. Greens, beans, peas, cabbage anything like that is going to have, hocks, ham shanks, smoked jowl or dry salt meat as we say in the south meat.
@bbqsouthernstyle Carolina. South, of course. (yeah, I'm startin THAT craziness, 😝. My best friend is a North Carolinian to the BONE, so don't take it to heart, y'all!)
My stepdad would cook cabbage for hours. It was pink mush the second the fork touched it. It was a liquid that somehow kept its shape until you touched it. Gross. Glad you know how to do cabbage right.
One of my favorite
Mine too.
Nice! I do those sometimes. So easy. Tastes great.
So good!
Really good. You don't have to be fancy.
Not for this one lol good eating all the way down to the bone.
Great cooking style

My grandmother used to call that boiled dinner a Sunday favorite and made the whole house smell great
Love that!

People want question hocks in Indiana. But I grew up on soul food and southern "smotherins" in the deep south. Yum!

You won't be disappointed whenever you get time watch some past videos there informative 😊
@@bbqsouthernstyle like I said I would love to do a brisket, but I never cooked one. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated
I never did a huge cut of meat on a pellet grill. Best advice is to buy a real smoker and take it from there. Your equipment is key to great results.
