    Since a lot of people have asked, the black “risers” are just floating shelves from target. I really love how they blend into the black shelves, and they’re all the same height unlike packs of acrylic risers lol.
    Secondly, Most of the feedback/compliments here are awesomely positive! However I seem to be getting 2 main complaints In these comments, so before you post yours, read this:
    1. “You don’t look broke to me, you have to be rich to have that collection.” - this isn’t that hard to understand, I’ve been collecting for *15 years*. Aka, I’ve been collecting for way longer than I haven’t been. There’s absolutely nothing “rich” about it. It’s called patience and consistency. You collect something diligently for 15 years and I guarantee you’ll easily have as much as I do, if not way more. I don't know what else to tell you, I work a minimum wage job WHILE paying for my wife to go to school in a 2 bedroom apartment. Life is great, but I'm as broke as they come lol.
    2. “This is horrible, you’ll have dust everywhere! Just buy some shelves with glass doors”. - for the thousandth time, if you can afford glass shelves with doors, WHY are you watching a video about displaying your figures on a budget?? Lol if you’re broke like me and need to manage dust, simply minimize airflow in the room and buy an air purifier.
    Lastly, I want to stay honest with you guys so that you know best what to do when you build your collection display, so DO NOT use the battery puck lights I used in these videos. While I already warned you about the potential problems of them in the video, I've now been using them for a couple years and deeply regret ever installing them. Stick with strip LED lights, it'll service you FAR better in the long run.

      I always wonder how much of a pain de-dusting freestanding models is and how to do so effectively. I've resorted to using compressed air right next to a vacuum for mine.

    That robot-mode Unicron as the centerpiece is heart stopping. I can't even get over how good the shelf setup looks in that configuration. Also, it is obvious that you have thought long & hard about placement & grouping, which is something I think a lot of collections are missing. Stellar job, & as a "budget" setup it looks as good or better than many "high-end" setups.

    To help cut down on the dust.
    1. Purchase magnetic cabinet latches and attach them to the inside walls of the display case.
    2. Purchase a clear acrylic panel from any hardware store and cut it to your desired size for the display case.
    3. Attach the metal part of the magnetic latch to the acrylic panel and mount the panel on the display case. Job done 😀.
    * For larger heavier acrylic panels add a bracket under the bottom edge of the acrylic panel and attached to the display case to help support the weight.

    • @krinkrin5982
      @krinkrin5982 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Edowin There are three types of older style display cabinets with doors. I'd assume the best way to find them is a garage sale or an antiques store by now, so I'm not sure how applicable this would be for a low budget solution.
      First is a display cabinet with glass panel doors on a swivel. The problem is that there is a sizable gap underneath the door due to the way the panel is mounted, plus you need to be careful to not bump into the door while it is open.
      The second type is a big sliding panel that takes half the width and the full height of the unit. They were popular over here for holding books or minibar utensils.
      The third is a regular freestanding cabinet with glass panels inside a wooden frame doors. These are probably easiest to find and buy currently.

    • @SquareViking
      @SquareViking ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This is a GREAT idea! You can even add some patio door cling film to it, to prevent the dust gathering on the inside (props to Ninjon for that advise). Kallex, Billy and Detolf are all great options from IKEA, the first two having a few good options in terms of optimization, though I'd go the DIY-way with the acrylic pane on Billy.

    • @Jayce1701
      @Jayce1701 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been thinking of doing this as well, and maybe adding weather stripping between the "glass" and the cabinet to cut down on the dust getting past the edges (can really add up over time).

    • @verigone2677
      @verigone2677 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can also add a fan with exhaust only in one or two corners, little 40mm is more than enough to maintain positive pressure inside the unit and add a filter in the room works really well to cut dust immensely

    The black foam against the window is a great idea. Except when you live in a country that has really hot summers and have a sun facing window just makes the room too hot especially if it doesn't have great airflow to begin with. One way to try and mitigate heat with this setup is to put white foam on the back side since white bounces heat away and black absorbs heat.

    Seriously, thank you for doing this video. We recently moved into an apartment and I’ve been looking for a video like this to tackle the issue of space and low cost for a collection set up. Unfortunately a lot of what you find out there are videos of expensive set ups that are quite honestly too large for an apartment or small space. I tip my hat off to you sir. The set up looks super sleek and the cost is unbeatable!

    When dusting a good trick to help cut down on dust clinging is to use fabric softener on your dust cloth or use dryer sheets. It tends to help repel the dust.

    What a great video! I do have to disagree on some points such as no bayverse with G1 to keep the same look. I love displaying all of one character together, my shockwaves for example, but I do 100% agree with the size and using risers! I never really though about color either, some very interesting points you made that I will consider for sure!

Thank you for this video.

      Dude, that’s so epic! I’m honestly dreaming of the day when a get a house and a whole me space.
      Make sure to block off the shelves with some kind of acrylic doors to block the dust if you have a home. It’s a little pricey but for a long term space, it’s totally worth it. Congrats again man!

    This was a really fresh and artistic approach to collecting. Whenever I see examples like you showed at 6:40, it gives me anxiety. I know it goes against the very nature of collecting, but less is more. Embrace negative space.

    For a budget display this is quite extraordinary! I have a star wars lego collection I've just got on a few shelves and wanted to spruce up and this just flooded me with ideas. To be honest I wasted money at ikea for my display and now thinking wow the walmart ones are waaay cheaper and honestly don't need to be fancy to "transform" a room :D

      How long do you think hes been collecting? He couldve had some since he was a kid I started collecting retro games when I was in 6th grade and I asked my mom for a ds and gba games and the rest of my family for other things like that like my dad got me an NES one year and I got a SNES and Genesis both from my mom that year. My retro game collection is WELL over $1000 probably not even close. My families also not ever been very well off and I would WALK to my local McDonalds where I WORKED when I was 14-16 and used money from that for games too and I also built an arcade machine with my BCT/AIT pay.
