    Hello and welcome to the channel. I forgot to mention that in 1952 all chevys used 6 volt system, Chevy went to 12 volt in 1955… All other American makes 12 volt in 1957. Chevy had a negative ground, which is opening up another rabbit hole because each company did things different, a lot of companies used positive ground
    This episode features overview/history lesson for AD Chevy. We talk about styling, driving experience, and give it a score based on vehicles of the time
    Enjoy the episode. Please like share and subscribe, let’s grow this channel.
    Also if you have a classic car or truck especially 20s 30s 40s 50s 60s 70s open to anything really
    And in the western Pennsylvania or eastern Ohio region. Drop me a line I’d love to do an episode with your classic car/truck
    Thank you for watching

    You should do one of these videos on the succeding Chevy truck, the "Task Force Trucks" 1955-1959, my personal favorite, and a proud owner of a '56 3600 3/4 ton. In my opinion the best looking Chevy truck series of literally all time, and it's a damn shame that you almost never see one restored to original condidtion... They have a particularly big following with the restomod guys.

      I have so many ideas of episodes that I wanna do but you’re right I haven’t seen a task force truck in good shape this year restored to original condition another truck that you don’t see often is a 58 Apache
      I would love to compare all of the trucks to one another like the 52 international, dodge Chevy ford
      Would love to compare Hudson terraplane and studebaker express 1937 that’s a tall tall order both trucks are super rare
      I’m probably gonna hit my truck again before this year is over the format has changed a lot since I did that episode
      I’ll start looking for a task force truck=)

    That's a nice truck, Jay! Back in the 70s, my uncle had a 49 Chevy 1/2 ton, same color green, but it had a GMC 6 cyl- 261 I think. It was actually pretty quick. I don't remember what happened to it. My 61 Rampside has the door locks set up just like yours, except the driver's door has a key to lock/unlock it. This video isn't bad for a first effort, but your latest vids are much improved!

      My wife helped me with that one and she told me she's like you can't have somebody's car for a week and a half lol
      I still have this truck. I drove it today actually a lot getting an exhaust kit put on it eventually I'm trying to figure out if I want to put the glass packs on it. I think I'm going to go that route I really want to get a painted as well but they want fortune the paint it I might try to clearcoat it myself

    The 235 came out in 1941 in the medium duty one and a half and 2 ton truck. And from 1941 to 1953 look identical to the 216. It had a Dipper oiling system which was a sign of the time. In 1954 when the 235 was updated the 216 was dropped. So most people think that the old 235s with the Dipper systems were 216 and they weren't

      No worries I’m so glad you got something from it.. I bought the truck to drive it it’s honestly my favorite truck of any truck that I’ve ever driven ever. Of course mine has a swap drive train but it’s still retains everything else like it’s the original chassis still has mechanical brakes mechanical steering.. honestly I’m probably gonna shoot that video again because the format has changed so much from when I originally did it.. 4400 that’s a one and ahalf ton truck right? They are so cool and parts are readily available the only thing that is hard to find is the corner windows i’m in the process of getting a radial tires I’m having a heck of a time finding the single piece of Rims they only made them in the mid 80s on off commercial vehicles I might do a comparison video bias versus Radial tires in the rain

    • @jackdmartin3245
      @jackdmartin3245 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the 4400 is a ton and a half. I don't have the corner cab windows. I think they are a good thing to have, but the truck I found didn't have them. I got a battery charging to go into the truck. I hope this weekend to get started or to see if I can get it started. Good to know that the parts are readily available. I would like to drive it around before I change the drive line. Won't be going anywhere far (or fast). I'll watch for the new video. Good luck.

      Have you tried?
      Napa, rock auto, O’Reilly’s, eBay is huge help most of the time you can find whatever you need on eBay… you might laugh but I needed a master brake cylinder for mine 52 Chevy and they had one a couple towns over had I called in the morning I could have walked out with the part in my hot little hands that same day..
      Also pro tip take the part with you to the store everytime I need a front end part we get heavy duty 3800 series. But the parts are always too small O’Reilly’s had my front tie rod end ( those were hard to find) and took a couple weeks.. you’ll be surprised specially, if you live in an area that has a lot of people that use Classic Cars like there’s a lot of AD series trucks 1947-1954 driving around here.

    • @jayschuon8330
      @jayschuon8330 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I don't. Sorry. I swapped the original split rims for 7r 19.5 wheels and tires and was worried that it wouldn't make much of a difference.
      As I drove out of the parking lot of the tire place I was laughing , because even at that slow speed it was night and day. Also I think the bigger wheels look great.
      All these guys that slam the trucks and make them into "cars" are silly. it's a one ton ! My truck has a utility body and a crane on it and works for a living.
      And looks like a proper truck.

    Something I’d like to correct you double clutching didn’t go away with the introduction of these trucks 1947 was unique in that retained pretty much all the old AK technology if the drivetrain my own 47 still has the factory non synchronized 4 speed and the 3 speed option was still on the floor for that year making 47 the only year with no clearance in the dash for a column shifter

      Awesome thank you so much for that. I never drove any other one besides mine, we are coming up on our 500th episode I’m going to cover this truck again. I still have it. I don’t ever plan on getting rid of it, but I’ve had some mechanical upgrades and it doesn’t look as good as it back then.

      @redneckwithajeep5001 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@What.its.like. yeah 47 is probably the most unique in these trucks because of the story on them. The workers in charge of the tooling went on strike because GM was pushing so hard to get the new tooling out as a result they actually made a few 47 trucks identical to a 46 and the 47 AD trucks retained a crap ton of the old technology
      I’ve had mine since I was 15 and in my quest to make it stay as original as possible I’ve had a difficult time finding parts because of year specific stuff. Yours is definitely in better shape though hopefully mine will be in that kind of condition soon I didn’t have a bed engine or good rear end when I got mine rear end is different too because the older 4 speed was a different length than the sm420 that came out in 48.
      You have a beautiful truck by the way mine doesn’t even have paint anymore lol

    • @What.its.like.
      @What.its.like.  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I absolutely love the SM 420 transmission. Mine has a 350 V8 in it. Nothing spectacular makes 150 hp but it has a hydraulic roller cam. It seems like that should’ve been the perfect set up for that truck. It will go 80 miles an hour. It gets 20 miles to the gallon now it’s sitting on radial tires 19.5 With the radial tires, it doesn’t have the resistance the bias had it rolls freely. It also stops better and handles and wet weather better. For me, I absolutely love this sound of straight cut gears in a transmission when you’re at the top of third it almost sounds like it’s supercharged and I absolutely love it when you go to shift gear it clicks..
      My truck has that patina look, but it’s started flaking the clearcoat off of it so I took it somewhere to get it clearcoated and that was the furthest of drove it and a long time and man that I have a blast =) your part of driving the truck you’re part of everything that’s going on. New cars are so isolated when you push the break down and it goes all the way to the floor you need more brake fluid. It talks to you like that it communicates new cars don’t do that.

  • @anthony8362
    @anthony8362 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not all 235s were high pressure oiling until 1954 the 235 came out in the big trucks in 1941 to 53 and they had the old Dipper oiling system just like the 216 and look like a 216 through 53. 1953 you can get a car with a 235 and automatic transmission and it looks like a 216 but if it's a automatic it's a 235.

      The truck would go 70, 7580 with the biased tires on it.. it gets better gas mileage now I get about 20 miles to the gallon on the highway.. I’m not sure if it’s worth it though because of all of the issues that I’ve had to fix since.. it has never tracked right since doing this modification.. and with the tires with tubes never had an issue with keeping air pressure never had to put more air in .. every time it gets cold outside or gets extremely hot after being cold. I have to readjust the air it’s safer yes but that seems like it’s only positive the tires themselves call for 100 pounds of pressure but if I put that much in there the truck is undrivable. So I have them at 75/80lbs
      We are approaching 500 episodes on the channel. I think I’m gonna hit that in the summertime. I’m hoping to have all the kinks worked out by then going to do another review on that truck and talk about all of the hurdles.
      The tires are also cheaper than the bias. They almost half the price I paid $150 per tire the bias with the tubes foundation and everything they were almost 350. I’m sure they’re more than that now.
