    I've said it before and I'll say it again. That saw blade is terrifying.

      My Dad had a similar sawmill setup. You're more likely to respect the twirling blade of death when there's less safety in place lol.

    • @JCWren
      @JCWren ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm more concerned about the twirling blade of death deciding to go on a walkabout, or a board getting bound up and turning into a cruise missile.

    • @98eck
      @98eck ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JCWren the log gets fed into the blade. If you were standing at the left side the blade rotated clockwise and the log is fed into the blade. Worse case the board that is cut could move. The log is fastened into the carriage. Between that and the weight there's no way the log could be sent airborne. As far as the blade goes there's a large shaft in the center of the blade that spins it. You would see it wobble if it ever broke and it would drop down or bury itself into the deck and stop spinning before it could come flying out.

    😂it'll only happen once... the true safety guy's motto. Love that beautiful maple beam, a lot of folks have no idea how hard maple is and how much havoc it will wreak on a saw.

    I worked in a pallet factory, pile of sawdust in a corner no one saw smoldered for 3 days before someone smelled it-- a 1/4" farther and it would have gotten into the framing of the building...that was made of yellow pine sawed in the 1950s... Glad someone can smell better than I do!

    If you'll move the engine up until the driveshaft is straight and level, it'll help lessen the vibrations from the 2 less than equal angles joints .. I'd inspect that shaft for some wobble too..

  • @kqc7011
    @kqc7011 ปีที่แล้ว

    How long before you switch from the drive shaft to a sheeve and belts, doing that should help with minor mis-alignment and shock loads on the drive train. That change over will take some "engineering". The Jimmy would have to move closer to the ground and some pillow block bearings mounted with some shafting work too. Or another option, we used a" rough service rubber shaft tire coupling" between a 50 hp electric motor and a rotary debarker. That type of coupling will work with some mis-alignment and takes shock loads rather well. Some to the larger tire couplings are made to handle way over 1,000 horsepower.

    I might be interested in building your slip clutch drive shaft.
    I builddrive shafts out of my garage most of the time they're just for pickup trucks, but I can see what I can do for a sawmill

    7:12 yeah with as close to level as you have them and the fact its not on a truck… i dont think the double cardon was helping. If anything i think it was hurting.

    Is it possible to add a spring engaging clutch (like what some older farm implements use) to the drive shaft? It would let sudden shocks to slip the cluch, instead of blowing U-joints

    Little known fact,unscrupulous fuel sellers have been know to water down their fuel and gasoline with water,some as high as 10-15% water as it nets them an additional 10-15% pure profit which can be a huge chunk of change over a years worth of fuel sales and they can always blame it kn the c9nsimers storage tanks,vehicles,equipment and who is to prove otherwise...
