Thanks for having me on the show Sam 😂👍 Loved the video as always keep up the great work over there!
Thanks Kurtis! We’ll have you over anytime 😂 Take care
:) I'm late to this party.......I was JUST about to tag you, CEE!
3:10 😂 Enjoyed your cameo appearance.
Outtakes begin in 3… 2… 😂
I always welcome your videos @@ScrappyIndustries
I see Homeless in there at the 4 min mark, having made the trip over the pond. He's slimmed down a bit and seems taller. Was waiting for the scrappy squeaky toy montage and a few giggles from Mrs Scrappy.
Kurtis?!❤. If you know, you know. 😂
Love watching him, Karen and Homey!
I know! CEE!
Where is Homie🐾
Need to feed some Magpies.
Two of my favourite TH-camrs come together!
We can’t forget Matt too!😅😂😂
The nods to CEE are brilliant! Even the part coming in on the pallet lol
As a kid, Saturday mornings consisted of a bowl of cereal and watching cartoons. Now it's a bowl of cereal and watching Sam & Matt 😁
Best thing now is, you can pause when you want a refill.
Matt doesn't seem to be posting much anymore. Good thing we still have scrappy to watch every week lol
That makes two of us!
And C E E !
@@ThatPartsGuy I agree 💯. Matt's back to posting on Sunday.
I liked your channel already but seeing you with a CEE hat shows that you really like to know how to do things correctly. For me Kurt is the master and I've had more than a bit experience.
You are not the only one...
Long time follower of CEE here..
Sam you are definitely one of the smartest, talented people out there
The only sad part of this video is that except for those of us who have watched this magnificent repair, or someone years from now who has to repair it again, no body will see or appreciate how magnificently it was done. Fantastic video Sam.
Sam is amazing at equipment repair, the innovation and abilities are unbelievable.
Agreed 👍
That was the PROPER way to do it. Building it up was never really going to fly.
Excellent job.
😂😂😂 OMG Too funny! Happy to see Kurtis making the trip down to help you out!
Sam, I worked on forklifts for 50+ years 20 years with Clark Equipment, did so many of those cyls my brain hurts LOL , you did a fantastic job , if you want to keep the water out install a bellows to cover the assembly, like a CV joint ! That what we had on the tilt cyls , also cover with a little grease before the bellows is installed,it helps for future repairs! Good luck !
Darn good work Sam, you know you're not just a happy face, you a smart cookie too.
1:03:48 The smile on this mans face. I think he is having some fun. While I was watching it move snow I was thinking awesome until I thought about fueling that beast. Nice job on the repairs.
Sam, honestly Fella you are one top notch man when it comes to fixing up / repairing/ restoring these older heavy machines. Since watching your channel I have fallen in love with Dresser heavy plant equipment, I just love the way them old engines bark when they’re pushing.
Cummins sound so good
Thanks so much! I do love the sound of that KT. I ordered a truck stack with an insert muffler so we won’t calm her down too much
That turbo is pure music 🎶👌🏻🎶
@ indeed it is so…. The Primeval Roar of a Beast that cannot ever be conquered, but will allow a good man to control it… I’d love to know how it is that the sound of a Cummins Diesel can cause such feelings in so, so many men. I honestly believe that it has something to do with Primeval Times…back to the origins of man. No other logical explanation for me….and even then it ain’t that logical at all..😆😆
12:55 - That chuck mounting/storage rack is genius. Whoever designed that should get a raise.
For sure it works very well
Love the reference to Kurtis at "Cutting Edge Engineering" here in SE Queensland, Australia. Great channel worldwide. Billy J. OZ Land.
I just watched 150 tons hydrolic cylinder repair at CCE yt n came here and see again kurtis doing similar things 😅
I know right! Kurtis doing a collab with Sam!😅
That Kurtis should start his own channel 😂😂
Look it up under dog headings
That grin as he rode by was priceless!
I know he wanted it to struggle just a little.
It just walked off with the whole pile.....LOL!
Nice repair!
Cheers
Terry
Amazing save with the insert Sam!! Your capacity to engineer a new parts is impressive!! Thanks for sharing
Nice to see the senior team member helps out!
Wow, not only do I find Sam has dropped another video, but he is also doing a colob with CEE 😂😂.. hey, at least we Aussies have a great sense of humour.
Great work with that Cat.. she had sharp claws and had a tight grip.
Wrapped to see kurtis getting so well known and popular its a testament to his abilities and skill
Sam and Curtis can pass as brothers!
I thought they were twins until I saw they weren't dressed the same!
I’ve never seen a repair done like this before, in my opinion this was borderline genius!
CNC Machining makes bolt circles so easy. No matter how you do it with a manual mill it takes so much longer - especially once you get past the learning curve of dealing with the software.
Wow Sam and Kurtis in the same video! Always impressed with the ability of each of these guys!! Nice job completed Sam!
What a 'collab'!
Nice bit of machining Sam. DIY at its best.
If you want something done correctly you must do it yourself. And with as much care and attention to detail as you take that old tractor will definitely not complain. Great video God bless
Kurtis' press is a wee bit bigger. Stop, hammer time! I think Kurtis would've machined an entirely new part. Nice to see that old beast doing what it was built for. Enjoyed it much, thanks Sam!
Or make this repair look simple asf😂😂
Nice machine work Sam! My boss back in the 60's was a machinist during WWII, then for many years at Grove Valve and Regulator in Emeryville, Ca. He had the whole back end of his service station (that wasn't devoted to tire work) set with all his machine tools. I was always fascinated watching make stuff. Just like I'm now fascinated watching you make stuff. That old TD-25 got some growsers on her! That baby can not only push, she can show ya where she's been!
I’ve rebuilt cylinders and the gland nut almost always messed up the threads on the rod so we bought new nuts and cut the old gland nuts to save the threads. Love seeing you bring back the old iron.
GREAT fix Sam. That goes to show you that if there is a mind and a lathe, it can happen! !! !!!
Make a flexible waterproof cover to go over the ram end that’s exposed keep the dirt and rain out of the seal 👍 great work Sam
Another great outcome! Thanks Sam for some great entertainment, and a job well done!
My dad made his living as a machinist so this brought back lots of memories for me. I can't help but wonder how long it is going to take before no one has the skills to do a manual set up on a machine tool like you did on your lathe. Keep up the good work on the videos!
Amazing tooling work , Sam. I like your young attitude-well-if it won't fit--I'll make something else to work. No problem.
Engineers today could learn a lot watching your repairs on these old machines.
Love the dogs in the house, too,.
LOVE the skit with "Kurtis"!
Great job Sam. That will last another fifty years! Best Wishes!
i know clint from c&c equipment has done of those dressers t25 machines .. he might know where to get all those hard to find parts .. but you probley already checked with him..nice job!!
They know each other well
3:59 Sam, when you unusually showed yourself just walking into your shop door I was like "Thats unusual, whats he doing now?" then I saw the CEE cap & skit started and i was like "ohhh ok!" 👌🏻😂 Good one! I hope he sees this and chimes in on it! I'm sure he'd get a kick out of it and would definitely approve of your excellent machining work too! I watch his channel sometimes very late (our time EST [GMT-5]) at night when its furst releasd and seeing the sheer numbers if views coming in so amazingly fast is just crazy to see. I think it was 2 wks ago I started watching it 15 mins after oisting and it had like 16k views already its just crazy, especially at the time its posted its late for us, like 2am or something like that. Keep up the great work Sam hopefully Kurtis will come stop by sometime for a real collaboration!👍🏻👌🏻🛠️🔧🔩
I have some time on my hands . . and . . found you and Matt hunting "treasures" in a skimpy auction lot. I think you two bought the best they had. Big trucks haul big toys! Good day!
Great job Sam, fantastic video. Congratulations from Australia
Well, Sam,I am really happy to have discovered your channel last year.. I'm from Belgium, and a lot of the machinery is on a smaller scale over here than in the U.S. As a former mechanic (I'm 63) I am really impressed with your knowledge and skills at your age. And next to that you're also a really nice guy, so, I'm a big fan. Keep up the good work!!
Nice of Kurtis to stop by Sam , you have excellent taste in friends
My buddy is a machinist with a Bridgeport lathe, so I understand what you are doing, you work like my bud, he has 50 years of experience. His work is the epidemy of perfection.
Sam you are a great machinist and such a great saver of old machines your videos are nice to watch.
**Sam **you're
Sam, great job. Worried about water getting past the flange…reverse the cylinder. Put the fixed end on the blade. May take some rerouting of the hydraulic lines to keep them clear of the tracks. Also, cut a car inner tube for an exterior gasket around the flange. Just some old Gippo Logger solutions.
Outstanding work. A pleasure to watch. Thank you.
That L&S lathe is badass!! My lifelong friend has a LeBlonde lathe out of the DuPont paint plant in Flint Michigan, She’s a big girl similar in size to what you have, my friends use it now to restore vintage tractors, yes he got all the tooling with her! She’s a big bad ass get it done girl💪🏻💪🏻
She is a beast! And seeing your smiling face operating it is priceless. good work!
Nice save! 👍
The TURBO was singing sweetly; thanks to Area Diesel.
Hi there Sam that was a fantastic Video you did. It was great to see you fit it 👍👌.
Looking forward to seeing more on the old Mack 👍
Ralph in the UK
Looking at a mess the original cast steel part was, you could turn a new one from steel, and maybe just use whatever glands and seals from newer machines use. Just my old man way of looking at it as cast steel is a problem for a guy like me that never ever works. A torch and some brass welding rod was all I ever had some kind of "success" and I use that word lightly.... great video of you playing in the snow, smearing it out so it can melt faster
That's great and I was watching CEE yesterday.🙂😀😃👍✨
As someone that went to college for machine tool it’s cool to see manual and cnc machining being used to fix this cylinder
For the next time. If you had an O-Ring in bigger diameter of the correct cord size then you can cut it square with a razor blade and glue it together in the correct size you need. For low pressure applications that's totally fine. Did it several times in my mechanic life. An old mechanic told me this trick but I saw a loctite kit for that one day too. All in all a great video with well done mashine work.
Sam/Curtis, you two young men have some dam good lathe skills! I tip my hat to both of you.
When something breaks on the farm, I wonder who gets called? Why, Sam of course 😊
I'm glad you decided to machine a new piece instead of welding it up. Perfume on a pig kept going through my mind. It turned out great. Can't wait to see you push some dirt!
Hi Sam. Loving the 'Kurtis' CEE cameo, it made me laugh so hard. Great repair, I'm sure CEE would more than approve. All the best, thanks for the great channel. Rgds Ian
That's some seriously awesome fabrication work. Enjoyed the entire video. Thank You very much for sharing!
Sam Curtis would be proud, if he comes over ,he'll be sure to visit his counterpart on the other side , seriously Sam I love watching you and your brilliant abilities with old iron that wants help from the likes of you to get back to hard sloggin again. Great videos
Sam The sound is awesome! The way that TD25 pops. Off when you start it is a beautiful thing to hear!
Awesome job. Man that CEE skit snuck up on me, wasn't prepared for that, great tribute to another great channel. Had your version of Homeless by the forklift into and everything. Well done.
Another off the chart video Sam! You rock!
Sam, wire or clamp either a truck inner tube or a piece of canvas over the cylinder. I actually used canvas to protect the cylinder.
I've rebuilt a bunch of cylinders. Not to that extent though. You amaze me with your talent.
By far, the best sounding dozer ever. Just awesome!
Love the CCE reference. Gold! From Aus.
Big kid at play! Well done Sam!!!!
Sam you are having way too much fun pushing that snow!!! 😊
Love watching your videos Sam. Thanks !
That was awesome from milling to making it work great watch haven’t seen to much lathe work thanks for sharing Sam 👍👋🇨🇦
Likely that one could find many mechanics that could remove, disassemble, replace seals/packings, reassemble, and replace the cylinder! Doubtful to find many that could do all of the aforementioned tasks and design and machine new parts to repair/ rebuild the original cylinder! Sam you "da Man"!
Sam, I really enjoyed this episode. Tell Matt Hello. He's the reason I am at your channel.
I knew this wasn't the real Kurtis when the dogs showed up :D I know I'm watching the right people when you reference other people I watch, love CEE and Homey!
Great job, loved doing repairs like that. Kurtis would be proud. Got those bananas just right.
Sam you are one fine boat driver. Sliping into that slip with inches to spare was yur crowning achievement.
Literally, you keep blowing my mind with each new video!
Good video Sam, job well done…
I would attach a tin cover on the blade side, covering the whole exposed part of the cylinder, so the rainwater cannot get to the seal and rod in the first place.
We did that with an hydr. motor-axle, facing upwords when not in use, on our mowing ship (seaweed) after we had to sprayweld the the motor-axle every second year because of rainwater-corrosion.
A little tin roof did the job and it never had to be repaired again until my retirement.

If you have a knife and a bottle of loctite 406, you can cut down the o-ring that was too big and make your own the right size.
Would seal better than grease or gasket maker if you ever have to do it again.
I’ve done that for o-rings at work that hold 420bar and never had an issue.
And you can fill the top of the 6 cap screws with silicone to stop water ingress. Has worked well for me in the past.
Atleast my mind was on the right track w the fix... you just went a bit beyond what I had in mind... 👍🏻
You are so Talented Sam. Great work on that cylinder. Geez, That Dresser is a beast.
You sure are way beyond diesel creek! lol Your videography, story telling and demonstration is awesome!
Sam, make a little metal guard to shade and protect the exposed top of that cylinder.
G'day Sam, top job👍
Don't forget to plug those cap screws.😉
Drill a weep hole on bottom of cylinder so gland area can drain
Howdy 🤠 from the Northwoods of Minnesota all 😊
This is how we won WW2. Guys like you thinking outside the box. Outstanding AF!
Ww3 we will be needing sticks to make a fire 😢
100%
Nice lathe work
The dead allied soldiers would be rolling in their graves if they could see the current state of their countries.
I would say that Sam and Kurtis are equal as far as skill set and knowledge of machining goes. Both are masters. I watch both and look forward watch them when ever a new video comes out.
Amazing Sam, I did not realize how much you and Kurtis looked alike. Fascinating! Thanks for the video and the guest appearance from Kurtis!
Appreciate the teaching part of your videos so we learn something new!
Great video. Pro level how you explain everything. Great to see the swamper and dogs in the video. I worked at the largest hydraulic shop in western🇨🇦. The outer is called a wiper. Lucky you had that homemade wrench. In a hurry, I would heat the nut and use a one inch impact. Red locktight to reinstall. The best/easiest way to repair that is to braze it. Was a great idea to give extra clearance because you don't want that to touch. Newer stuff uses wear bands. The old uses a sintered material. You don't want regular steal touching the rod. One other thing is the cylinder bore. Honing is always a good idea. In your case here you are repairing and not restoring as I call it. Especially not being able to get a new part. At home a dingleball hone works well with a rod welded on As an extension. I clean the bore with a thin cotton rag on the hone after. Just some insights after doing this for a long time.
Sam always seems to be having fun, but he looked especially happy as he pushed that big snowbank around like it was dust.
Fun fact I stood ours vertically and braced it to use a crane to get the guts out. Put a 8 inch brake diaphragm on the hole to keep dirt, dust out of the barrel. One of our guy thought it was funny to shove it to the bottom of the bore. I took the lower hose off that revealed a 2 inch cavity about 18 inches long. Acetylene and oxygen into the hole duck down and light it. We had the best time of 1:25 seconds until the airbrake chamber pancake came back..
I don't think there's anything youandMattcant do y'all see a problem you just jump right in to it and d fix it y'all are the best at what you do
52:00 I don't think I ever saw a hydraulic piston installed that way. Very nice.🙃
Nice , good job ;D Why not create a upper gard to reduce rain to accumulate on that piston bushing ,is there any inconvenience ?
preheat before welding, cover with fire blanket to let it slowly cool after welding
Outstanding Sam. You are The Man. 🔧👍🇬🇧
Ya, that thing sounds terrific when it's working.
