Remember back when most people thought the worst thing about Bill Cosby was the terrible films he made? Such simpler times back then....😞
Ahh, that sax. I miss the days of some good sax during the openings before the show started. We’ll never get it back. 😿
I clicked on this just to watch them roast Cosby.
On a whim, I watched Ghost Dad recently... I was shocked on how BAD it was.
I didn't laugh, I didn't chuckle, I didn't smile, I didn't smirk... I was just appalled with what I was seeing.
It was worthless would-be comedy movie 👎🌟🌟
Cosby gets that reaction a lot these days.
@@djluvsdi2029 Naw. Ghost Dad is just a horrible movie and there’s no need to pull the horrific things Cosby did into the discussion. Siskel and Ebert’s review speaks to this. In fact, I don’t remember them saying once “oh, and Cosby raped women after drugging them”.

The way Ebert broke down the structure of "Days of Thunder" was brilliant.
If you think of it it really maked sense. Ok it worked of course. But some of these movies with Cruise are cringe in 2024. Days of thunder and Cocktail are ridiculous silly movies. Cocktail is easily his worst ever.

I saw Ghost Dad at the theater and I lived to tell my story.

The original is superior, but Die Hard 2 delivers, thanks to great villains.
I agree. The original Die Hard is the best, but its first two sequels are very good, too.
Robin Williams was special. He was equally good with TV, movies, and the stage.

Cosby's tax write offs. This and Leonard Part 6 he went out and bad-mouthed leading up to their release dates. He practically was begging audiences to stay away hoping they would fail.

@@ricardocantoral7672 yes, true. This movie came out at the peak of the Cosby show era where advertising money was coming at his show in droves. His production company shared that with the network. During that period he had Ghost Dad and Leonard Part 6 in two separate years and both were awful projects from the start. He bad mouthed both films prior to their release dates. He wanted them to fail.
The first 3 Die Hards are classics!
Die Hard 2 was a very good movie but not thoroughly appreciated because it lacked originality. If only Siskel & Ebert could see what happens to hollywood 20 years later....
I totally disagree with Die Hard 2. Part 1 was way better. I didn't care for 2, because they turned John Mclaine into James Bond or Rambo, when in part 1, he was just a normal guy...much more realistic.

I never saw Ghost Dad the title was enough to scare me away. Days of Thunder was surprisingly good but then again Robert Duval does not do many bad films so maybe I should not have been surprised. This may be my favorite TV show of all time, I can watch these episodes endlessly!

I like Die Hard 2 well enough but I think the original is superior. Roger gave a thumbs down to the first Die Hard a rare lapse in judgement on his part.
I agree. I like the first Die Hard movie better than the second one. I believe Die Hard With a Vengeance is the best one.

I agree. Maybe the scale of the second film is what Siskel and Ebert enjoyed and the stakes of the airplanes being in peril? It's inferior to the original, but it is enjoyable in a looser/broader way than the original. I think Ebert also gave thumbs down to 'The Untouchables', while Siskel recommended both 'Die Hard' and that film.
Roger hated Paul Gleason (RIP) as LAPD Deputy Idiot Dwayne T. Robinson so much that he just said that the character ruined the entire film for him.
Not rare. he frequently got it wrong. He was popular because he wrote well, not because he knew movies.
Not many people remember this but originally Ebert gave a thumbs down to Star Wars. his friends had to convince him to see things from a new perspective. He went back and then gave it 4/4.
Also he gave 4/4 to the Phantom Menace and he never backed down from that. The man doesn't know movies. he knows writing.

While I do agree that the first Die Hard is better, the ending to Die Hard 2 is one that holds a special place in my heart.

I always thought it was weird that Roger panned the first Die Hard solely because he hated the Paul Gleason jerky authority figure but he loved this one where Dennis Franz was that character ramped up to 100. Maybe he just didn't like Paul Gleason in general. And how could 2 be superior to the original? William Sadler (who is a great character actor) wasn't a patch on Alan Rickman in the original.

I have NEVER before heard anyone say that Diehard 2 was better than 1. It was okay, but the 1st was superior with the late Alan Rickman.

@@knownpleasures Nah. Die Hard 2 is a well done action film but it's not nearly as effective as the first film. Die Hard 1 had a fantastic villain, a sense of claustrophobia that drove up the tension, and all parties involved were trapped within the same space so there's a fantastic sense of intimacy.
Funny how DAYS OF THUNDER and MAVERICK share mostly the same plot, except MAVERICK is vastly superior.

A few major turds in this review.... Sometimes I have to wonder if the studios were putting large amounts of cash in their pockets to convince them to thumbs up turds like Die Hard 2 and Days of Thunder.

I don't know why they're hating on the ending to Days of Thunder, that freeze frame ending along with Zimmer's music is the tits.
It's very bizarre to have DIE HARD 2 and GHOST DAD on the same show.... I'm surprised the universe didn't crack open. I tend to find fans, I do too, that DH2 is the second weakest behind A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD.
