It's interesting how going gold has kept transformed from when a game is finished to when the game starts day one patching, really shows just how much everything has changed over the years
I'm fairly convinced that gold standard is an evolving thing, as the Gladius has been in "gold standard" for awhile now and during that time there have been several improvements to the gladius as those features become available by the tech, and I believe as new features come online those new features will become part of gold standard - such as the manufacturer huds. We don't know yet if the manufacturer huds are part of gold standard because that feature is not yet implemented. No doubt the testbed for pretty much all new ship features (at least those that are applicable to single seater ships) is the gladius, and I believe with manufacturer huds that is also the case as the first ship they showcased with the aegis hud was the gladius, and that is no coincidence in my opinion. I believe that the manufacturer hud, once online will become a part of the gold standard and thus add to the list of the many things CIG has to complete to get its desired standard for every ship in the game, and I think this will be the case for most other features (ship related) that come online in the future.
The Gladius has an additional fuel port behind the cockpit. It doesn't move but you can clearly see the fuel port if you get at the correct angle. It's visible at 5.06 right in front of the yellow trim with a flammable decal on it.
I love the Start up animation on the Gladius, I wish more ships had that button pushing sequence when you hit R. It makes Rock music play in my head and makes me want to full throttle into combat :D If this is a feeling of a finished ship, I’m happy with this definition of a gold standard!

Just found this video while looking into any info on the retaliator gold standard...she needs...a bit more time with large industrial cutters and fabrication before she ever gets 'polish', but whatever. I really enjoyed how you covered this. Keep it up,, when I've more time I'll be back to see what else you've made. =)
This channel is quite engaging. TH-cam algorithm got it right. I believe the gold standard is a moving target. Feature creep has been an issue for the development of Star Citizen but is also what attracted me to the game.
really enjoyed the video and I totally forgot about the gold disc which is being used even now at IT. Gold disc as a pre-configured Finished OS and settings which can be deployed on mass to all the other clients!

My original Wing Commander box came with 7 5.25 inch floppy disks. I played it every day after school, and I took great pride in the fact that I finished it before my older brother!

I believe what CIG means when they refer to gold standard for ships is that all of the usables/components/etc are in place and working with regards to art/animation etc.
Love the detail on the Gladius, had no idea it was more or less ' finished' . Just one point of correction. Elite: Dangerous also has individual component damage. It's a big part of the gameplay , trying to repair or reboot components and re-route power in the middle of a battle. Also, when designing the loadout of your ships you could engineer/mod specific modules for greater protection like an armored power plant or install Module Reinforcement packages. Also you could set up Module Power Priorities so that if your power plant was damaged which resulted in reduced output you could designate the priority of each module so that the ship would shut down the lower priority modules that you specify first leaving the modules you deem critical enough power to continue, rather than the whole ship going dark leaving u a sitting duck while you frantically try to reroute power and reboot the ship. E:D's engineering model is one of its best features. You could spend hours theorycrafting a build to do specific things. I really hope SC can enable something similar. Here's an example of the build of one of my ships: s.orbis.zone/fpll. Power priorities are bottom left.
One point I would add for a ship to meet Gold standard and be FINISHED. 13. Ship meets/performs the listed concept goals and functions. For example no matter how flyable and/or functional a Starfarer is, it is not Gold until it can "not only...load, store and protect fuel stasis units, it is designed to take in spaceborne gases and refine them for use without landing."
Cant wait for physicalized damage. I love that taking a critical hit doesn't necessarily mean you're finished if you can limp back to repair or even manage to take out your attacker.
My guess is that "gold standard" means that the ship is brought up to the highest level currently present. The Gladius is commonly the display for this because it's not only is it central to SQ42, it's also on of CIG's favourite test beds for new stuff. It doesn't mean it's *finished*, it just means it's currently the one the rest of the ships need to catch up to. I imagine the gold standard will eventually grow to include things not present in the Gladius, like proper support for AI and modularity.
Gold standard is very cool Some ships still missing tech won’t be able to be in the Gold standard until that tech is finished, or at least until it’s been implemented

Even though we only get one entry I feel the need to say that I enjoy your videos and how you analyze the game. It's the goldilocks level of analysis vs speculation.
I'm glad you mentioned the Manufacturer HUD. I think at this point, the game is screaming for it. Most of the UI look very aged. The "No Target" on the MFD looks absolutely hideous ! Hope they give it some love soon as for 3.14 we'll have a HUD facelift.
I'm looking forward to seeing more ships in the game reach a finished state, but as you've pointed out, there's no accounting for the future needs of the game. Either way, it's interesting watching the game unfold.

There's lots of ships that I want to see finished, but none more so than the Polaris. I know it probably doesn't have a place in the PU yet, but I just can't wait to see it hit gold!

I think the idea that a ship is finished when we have reached the gold standard is something that CIG will regret putting forth, as I don't think it's feasible that the ships we see in game today are the ships we'll be piloting 5, 10 years into the future
Armor and Hud are not a Model thing. Thats a entry in the Database. I don't know if we get all buttons on the Cockpit to click - a few are done. So Gold is - Model is done.
I think the only aspect of SC that is close to finished is the mining gameplay. I won't say loop as refinery is still at its first implementation and I would say that makes up a part of that loop.
Lots of maybes, considering the only gold standard ship at the time was a single-seat fighter, but even then the amount of detail in that one is bonkers enough to make me worried if its even humanly possible to apply it to all ships! Gosh darn.
If Star Citizen is suppose to be as great as it aims to be, it shall never be finished, just constantly upgraded as future ideas and systems become realized.
I’ve been playing Elite for 9+months. The recent turmoil of Odyssey is a big example of the "leave it for later, just sell units now." Attitude that is so disappointing in the entire game industry. Star Citizen at least seems to be in no hurry, lol. I’m looking forward to it being finished.
Well…600i will really tell us as even they admit the interior is a disaster. Gold should mean “done”. So all rework, no bugs. No ground vehicles loaded clip/fall through when loaded. Sooo..if 600i isn’t perfect then gold standard is a joke via marketing department
While I mostly agree with your statements on what the Gold Standard could mean, a big point on SC as a whole -and, therefore- it's ships, is that MMOS are constantly being upgraded and changed up until the servers are shut down. Unlike normal games, there's no real "finished product". So I don't think tje gold Standard means that CIG is FINISHED with the ships, per se, only that they're about as good as they could be at the current time. So, with time, what once was a "finished ship" will see an upgrade to the NEW gold standard (as you said, platinum standard or such). This gives me a lot of hope for the future of the game, because the gold standard of right now looks amazing as is. Imagine how it would be once they add the finishing touches to all ships.

This term is still being used by game developers today. I just heard it on E3 the other day. So your assumptions on their use of "gold standard" is not far from what I have been interpreting it as either

If you are talking about the two identical ones outboard on the top they are coolers

My Gladius does feel much more finished then other ships. I hope all others get this treatment soon.

Answer: Not the Taurus that they said was taking a long time and only got minor changes and a larger cargo area. It ain't finished.
