I have never even played Star Citizen but the Avenger Titan is easily on of my favorite ships. Probably mostly because it looks like a space shuttle but also because it has quite a spacious interior and decent firepower.
I agree, the only caveat to that though is when the 100i QnA came about they stated the Avenger rework would reduce its cargo size to be more in line with the other starter ships.
I've been a backer since 2014 and this was my ship for a long time. I love that thing. I don't have one anymore but it's always my recommendation. Such a great ship.
I started playing SC 2 1/2 years ago with an aurora mr for 45$. Since the last wipe I now own a Constellation Andromeda, a F7C Hornet and a Gladius. I never spent a single penny on those ships. You DON‘T need to invest real money to succeed at the game!!
Hey. I basically just started and am not planning to spend money in game. How did you start making the big bucks (currently saved up a million auec). If you have any tips please lmk. Thankss
@@ashtpres I did bounty’s with the aurora up to High Risk Targets around Yela at Crusader. Saved up to 1.7M aUEC and bought myself a hornet. With that beast you can even do ERT‘s (however that requires some time and a lot of piloting skill)
This needs an update, I fly a Mustang Alpha and the inventory is accessible from inside the freight space. Lower the cargo container, open it, crouch walk inside. Now open your inventory. You will find tabs for personal inventory and vehicle inventory, on landing pads or on the most remote moons in snow outside the bunkers, even in zero g, it works. You can unload your backpack and carried weapons into the vehicle tab. You can also drop packages and hand carriable containers inside there too. Then close it up, raise the cargo container, everything stays where you left it. I was really regretting pledging for a mustang based on videos like this until I played around with my Alpha variant, having just started playing in the last few weeks it took a few days to figure out the functionality of the cargo space. Gotta say, big fan now because yes, it is very nice to fly in combat, packs a solid punch, the only real downside is the lack of a bed.
Wouldn't worry about the bed, every time I log into a ship through a bed, I have to quit to menu, because I spawn in the internals of ship or like the harbinger cannot access the cockpit ugh!
I tried it during the last free fly and interior inventory is actually accessible from the menu by the ladder, where you also have the option to enter the ship. Also, now we have the Cutty that needs adding to the list
Yeah the mustang gets a lot of unwarranted hate. Now that the cargo it fully functional I think it's way better than the Aurora. I've flown both and the mustang flys way better
The mustang is absolutly amazing, tout can actually store so much in it despite it's small size. There is the regular storage you can access on the ladder, the cargo under the ship is pretty nice too (you can transport your friends inside also) and the space behind the seat lets you actually store a bunch of things if you use the mutli tool with tractor beam. (I drop mostly bodies there, to loot later) It's a lot of fun, it only lacks a bed and thicker walls for it's cargo because some items tends to slip through the walls.
I would expect a brand guide, and starter ships video probably next year. I feel that star citizen is going to grow alot next year, probably with two new starters and going back and gold standarding a few
When I started in SC back in 2015 I loved the Mustang. Even with the rework that got rid of the Hobbins Hole it's incredibly sad just how badly the model has been left behind. When it eventually gets its gold standard pass (which imo should be immediately for the Aurora and Mustang) I hope it gets to shine again.
Mustang was my starter ship last year, it wasn't great by all means but I quickly got the money to do some upgrades and it became fairly reliable for most BH and claim jumper missions, I plan to upgrade to a titan soon as I get back into the game later this year but since I last played( earlier last year) I still found it enjoyable to fly
@@ANONisEVERYTHING doubt it XD it's been a long wait for sure which I think is why it has a bad reputation outside of the community, but people don't realise that with a smaller dev team, and a project as ambitious as this, it's going to take time to get a 100% fleshed put product.
@@ANONisEVERYTHING Pre-alpha we only had Arena Commander and the big expansion was taking the elevator in the back of your hangar "up" to Area 18 to experience what the cities were going to be like. I'd argue the game didn't hit alpha until Dec of 2015 when 2.0 rolled out and we first got into Stanton with Port Ollisar. Couldn't land on the moons, only a handful of contracts, it was an accomplishment to even get from your bed to the ship terminals without crashing to desktop over the holidays.
So many ships from back then need gold-standard but the main problem is so many more features are planned even the ships recently released (and yet to release, keep an eye on the Corsair!) that they'd only have to go back and update them again... When most of these older, 'first generation' ships from way back have already had minor to major updates at least once if not more that it's just wasted dev time... still take five minutes to just right click delete the struts in the Connie's window, though. I can live with just a hole there 'till the atmo-update, just let me see out please, CIG!
One thing I rarely (if ever) hear mentioned is the convenience of ramp vs ladder: on these smaller ships, if they have a 'ramp' you can run onboard, drop your box and quickly get to the cockpit. With ladders you have to faff around a lot more, and climbing ladders is slow - which is fine if you like catching bullets with your back :) For me the Avenger Titan is my first choice, followed by the 100i (which has shallow steps rather than a ramp), then the Pisces. The Titan is well ahead of this pack, and the 100i only edges ahead of the Pisces due to its bed. Every now and then I think about getting one of the 300 series but that ladder and pannier combination is just too inconvenient for those moments when you need to vacate expeditiously... .
While I agree that a ladder is dumb, I have never been killed trying to get in my ship… where as ramps are a way for people to sneak on and kill you and that has happened to me!
I traded my Aurora starter pack for the 100i starter/SQ42 pack. I do Mining so I bought the Prospector along with the Freelancer MAX for transportation and cargo. Then last year they offered the Titan Renegade in Warbond, I could not say no and so I bought it.. The Titan is now my everyday ship for deliveries, light bounties, investigation missions and transport to bunker missions. Titan is a great ship.
@@AgentXRifle True, I haven't had that problem with my Titan yet; I eyeball the terrain on the way down and I close the ramp while I'm on it on the way back in. Ramps are a real nuisance on the bigger ships though, especially the "come one, come all" ramp on the Carrack :(
There is some things I wanted to mention about the Pisces that make it a better starter ship than what you covered. It is the smallest starter ship in overall dimensions and so fits in more ships than any of the others. This means that when you get those large ships you already have a small transport ship that can fit in them. It’s small size means it also can land in places the other ships can’t. Even right up to the doorsteps of outposts and pads. Out of all the starter ships on this list, the Pisces is the one I keep using even after I got the monocle and top hat. It is the perfect runabout for Star Citizen that I still use after the other starter ships have been melted.
The 100i also has the easiest ingress/egress out of all the other ships which greatly reduces the risk of death via ladder or ramp. Not only that, it makes box courier missions an absolute breeze
Come on guys, we all know the best starter ship is the 890J. It also has a useable interior for personal storage, a lot of guns, but more importantly, you can host parties on it.
The C.O. Nomad is honestly one of my new favorite ships in the game overall. It's like a mini Cutlass in terms of being a jack of all trades, and the truck bed is just so easy and convenient to use. And since it's a starter, it's claim time is around 45 seconds. So you don't have to keep spending 2000-3000 aUEC and several minutes waiting to get it again every time you blow it up or want to move it to a different location. My personal recommendation is to buy one of the smaller, less expensive ships to start, and work your way up to buying the Nomad with earnable, in-game credits (aUEC). It costs just under 1 million, which sounds like a lot for a new player but, I promise you it really isn't once you get into the swing of things.
Yeah the nomad is great since it can do a lot of stuff. I personally use the Nomad as a secondary ship with the ROC to mine rocks. There is a downside with using the Nomad for this though, it runs out of fuel really quick, especially in atmo.
@@Cramblit I am aware of this, I have played for 4 years. When I am flying in atmo looking for rocks I never really go full throttle. I should mention that I haven't played the last update yet, so maybe it is better now? The Nomad definitely consumed fuel fast, but you can surely make it fly for longer if you try your best to save fuel.
@@JoaKimzen Sorry I just assumed you had the same problem everyone who says their ship is a fuel guzzler has. It's like when the Mercury was first released, non stop whining about it's fuel being too small amount, meanwhile I'm mining for hours in atmo with a ROC, and people are claiming they can barely get 30 minutes. So I just assumed you were that person.
@@JoaKimzen If you fly decoupled in atmo its much, much more efficient. You can do some cool stuff wit the gear in atmo as well - seems to provide a bit of lift, even 1000m+ above the surface. (This isn't unique to it, i find the same thing in the 325a, nomad just looks cooler lol). I refuelled once after 2 and a half ROC mining runs, popping in to security places as well. Also helps tone down the noise in the cockpit, since the retros are right by your head and they'll fire almost non-stop in coupled mode. Latest patch hasn't changed fuel efficiency but atmo flying feels a LOT smoother, especially low flying.

I started with the RSI Aurora, and after flying a LOT of the other ships (thank you IAE), I've come to realize it's actually a fast, manoeuvrable ship that I quite enjoy flying. I wish it had more missiles though.
I eagerly joined the star citizen community 9 years ago. I happily donated close to a thousand dollars to this project. Chris Robert’s was creating the game of my dreams and I was all for it. Since then I have slowly lost hope on this projects completion every missed deadline. This channel is the only reason I have not written this project off as a scam, and still hold some excitement deep deep deep in heart for the day I can live my child hood fantasy of being a space faring mercenary for hire.
This game keeps chugging along, but at a glacial pace. CIG seems like they want to make this game, but they sure do like to take their sweet time. I understand the fading hope. That's one heck of a haul to be waiting for 9 years as one of the first backers. I bought a starter package in 2017 and played it here and there, and that was when there was no planets to land on. Went on a hiatus until mid 2021 when two other friends decided to try it out. I got back into it since they said it was a lot of fun and I was blown away by how much had been added since then. It feels more like a game than it ever has before. And with the promise of the Pyro system coming out next year (so they say), this will reinvigorate Star Citizen, which it desperately needs.
Yep pc fanboys were praising the game before ps4 came out. Now ps5 is out. And based on what I've seen star citizen will be decent but still no where near finished when ps6 comes out. It looks like it came a long way though
Agreed! That and not even bothering to give the Aurora a cargo pod underneath the ship is just ridiculous. Here we have the two ships from starter-packs that most people own on their accounts yet both of them are broken in regards to cargo. You'd think that CIG would prioritize the Aurora and Mustang; considering how many accounts just have a basic starterpack.
After watching this video I transfered my mustang back and brought a 300i. Problem was I lost ability to play so have to buy a starter package again! I hate this game so frustrating and buggy but looks so good I keep coming back!
@@VestedUTuber That's completely missing the point. The Mustang Alpha is offered as an official entry-level starter pack. Selling starter packs that won't even allow you to do the most fundamental gameplay and credit-earning activities in the game is nothing short but a scam.
Avenger is easily the best value still, but Pices will always be my favourite of the small ships, just hop in and hop around. Whenever I need to go somewhere without hassle I grab one, it has the legs to go everywhere and it is an empty flying small box meaning it can land just about on a lamppost and you can fill it up with boxes or friends. Just know if you do a hostile bunker to land clear of the guns ;)
I find myself flying my Pisces even more than my Avenger nowadays. It's a great little puddle-jumper for most non-combat related stuff (although I have managed to take out NPC Cutlasses in one). The only issue I've found is that the passengers can black out at times due to their 90 degree position. But that's just a minor thing that we'll just have to live with. 😃
Its tiny foot print makes it really nice to be able to just land anywhere and still has a good amount of cargo for being teeny. I enjoy mine quite a bit. Also it is one of those very if it fits it sits type ships you can sneak into a lot of bigger class ships with some care/effort.
Important usability note about the 100i series that many of these types of videos miss! You can spawn it planet-side! Certain small ships are able to spawn at the vehicle pads at outposts. On this list that's the 100i even though I think it's actually bigger than the Pisces??
Very good point, it's one reason why I have bought one in-game, so if something goes wrong at an outpost and my titan blows up I can get a 100i spawned at the platinum bay small pads and not need to rely on others to get a ride out.
I just started SC, and I choose the Anvil Pisces. It was on sale, so I got it for the same price as an Aurora. having some fun looting bunkers and making a good stock of weapons and armors for personal use.
I love me Nomad. I use it as a 'hopper' where I fly into or out pf atmo but not in it. And on the black I fly it uncoupled if going long straights. Just get up to speed and let momentum do the rest, slight adjustments as needed. I see it as trully a spaceship, not meant for constant atmo work and not a fighter but having enough teeth to defend itself.
I just joined Star Citizen, I got the 100i and my friend got a Freelancer. We play the roles of Fighter Escort and Loot storage respectively. Gotta say that Im in love with the 100i upgraded just about everything on that ship and have turned it into a potent little fighter.
Absolutely in love with your content. I just got into Starcitizen after saving up for a gaming labtop it was a beast, I built it for around 5grand 2tb hard drive. 64 gig ram. 3070ti gpu. And cpu was 12700. Absolute beast only had it for a few weeks and my 3 month old baby had some really bad medical issues... unfortunately I had to sell it, one of the most heartbreaking things besides learning about my baby being hospitalized. Maybe one day I can get back into it, but for now your videos will do.
But same, I hope that when SQ42 will be out they will start by standard golding all starters and make an event like a dedicated IAE in pyro, with only starter ships from all manufacturers. That would be happening at the same time of the big iae, but it would just present affordable ships for people wanting to get off pyro. It would be good also to see a starter from drake to complete the lineup.
I think the very last thing CIG will do with the game is update the starter ships. Starter ships have a low price to pull people into the game, and poor specs which makes people want to move on to a better ship once they decide they like the game. Having them somewhat broken simply speed the process of pushing new players into buying a more expensive ship. CIG doesn't WANT people to be happy flying a starter ship. They want people to try and grind for a better ship then just decide to spend real money to buy one. Selling ships is how they make most of their money. Also, if it comes to a choice between spending time to gold standard an expensive ship like a Freelancer, Cutlass, or 600i, or spending time to upgrade a starter ship, they're going to improve the better ships since that's where the money is. The best players can hope for is a gold standard pass on starter ships when they've run out of all other work on the game.
In my eyes the best upgrades to starter ships are: the 325a (if you value combat > cargo), the Titan (if you want to balance cargo = combat) and the Nomad (if you want cargo > combat and want to stay below $100). Btw, i dont have any idea why everyone sleeps on the 325a. Its just such a great deal for the money. Very fast, very good in combat, some cargo, lots of amenities for space travel and looks slick.
Agree I'm actually kinda upset that there aren't any of the 300 series in this list. Especially if theres an avenger in the list since they are essentially the same class of ship
I have both a Nomad and a 325a. Started with a Titan, upgraded it to the 325a cause I didn't care for the lackluster cargo capacity and wanted some luxury, plus the extra missile firepower of 325a is great. When Nomad came out, I melted down my upgraded starter, instead upgraded the Titan to Nomad and got LTI, then repurchased the 325a with 10 years insurance. Now I have my luxury fighter, and something for hauling a ROC.
@@jgerbrands667 It was likely just not mentioned because it's not an actual starter package. But people should be aware that there are ship you can get for the same price as the Nomad, or cheaper, that aren't starter packages, simply by upgrading. Perhaps Morph can do an updated vid at some point to bring facts like that to light for new players who might be interested in a 300 series, Reliant Kore, or an Arrow.
@@Incariuz Yeah. I really dont get it why he didnt mention the 325a. It is the only starter ship that is really good in combat (Titan is not bad but not as good as the 325a) and still offers some additional value. Anyway, maybe the future will change the view of some youtubers on the 325a. Its by far the most underrated ship in my eyes.
When I initially started I had the Mustang, back then it even was the older design (bottom mounted entry) and was just really difficult to use overall, I upgraded to the Titan since the step up price for that isn't much on top of the Mustang and I was so happy with that decision ever since. (Since then I've upgraded to the Cutlass Black which just gives me more internal space, allows me to put a ROC in it, etc)
@@UncleBenjs he's absolutely right. If they were making a video game and not a machine to sell jpgs, the ships that the majority of people use would be priority #1. But the reason these ships essentially never get touched is easy to see: they're only double digit real money price.
@@datonkallandor8687 LOL.. said by someone who obviously has zero experience either playing the game, or watching inside star citizen and understanding the dev process
There is a point you have forgotten about the Nomad is that once the cargo system will be updated, the cargo bay on the nomad will be equipped with a tractor beam, which will allow the player to load and unload the cargo rapidly at compared to other ships. If someone wants to make a fast shipping ship once it drops, it will be that one.
Unfortunately that's purely speculation. All we really know for sure is that at bare minimum the tech will be implemented, which doesn't at all mean that there will be any attached functionality to it or even supporting systems ready in 3.18. Ship tractor beams fall into that supporting systems category, and I would guess the chance of that making it into 3.18 is very remote.
@@Morphologis What is purely speculation Morph? The loading times or the tractorbeam? CIG has already stated that the Nomad will come with a S1 tractorbeam in that location once ship tractorbeams come online. It was both on the website as well as the video where the devs talked about the Nomad. 😃
@@DanakarEndeel I believe he's referring to the tractor beam being added at the same time as the cargo rework. At least thats how his wording seems to me.
@@daninboutwell1274 Ah, I see. That kinda makes sense then. But yeah, I specifically checked the sales page, website, Q&A, and the video about the Nomad and everywhere it states that the Nomad has a S1 tractorbeam in the rear section overlooking the cargo pad. 😃
Don’t know if you’ll see this Morphologis, but I’ve just started getting interested in Star Citizen and your videos have been a terrific help with understanding the game, it’s ships, and all the different systems and activities that can be done in game. As a video suggestion, I would really enjoy seeing a comparison of the Aegis’ Avenger series to the Reliant series since these seem like the next step in the upgrade path if a person started with the Aurora or Mustang. Again, thanks for all the content!
Hiya, for the differences between reliant series and avenger it goes as follows Reliant series pros: More pilot DPS(for now) turrets that can be copilot controlled Lots of missiles(Tana) Switching flight modes(personal taste) Avenger series pros: More cargo(6 on kore vs 8 on titan) Smaller cross section Larger size of guns(less total though) Slight handling advantages Reliant series cons: Huge and brittle cross section Has to choose between cargo space or a bed Insufficient power plant if stock Avenger series cons: No role for multicrew
I've been playing this game for over a year now but still find myself looking at a beginners guide, just because your content is so amazing. Keep it up :)
Your videos are so thorough and entertaining, that I'm willing to watch any SC content you put in front of me, despite me hating the game's lack of progress and greedy prices with a passion 😄 So, good job!
Loved the video! One thing, though: 11:36 You said the 100i has more damage potential than the MR and Mustang. In reality both the MR and Mustang can deal out much more damage than the 100i when their weapon slots are filled out. The Mustang can even deal the same amount of DPS stock than the 100i upgraded with S3's instead of it's stock S2's. Checked the stats multiple times on erkul and came to the same conclusion every time. Please correct me if I'm missing something! Anyway, hope you keep up the new player guide videos, they're always the first I send out to new players when I encounter them!
The idea is that bigger weapons will have higher armor penetration, canceling out what they lack in additional DPS. But since armor isnt in and will likely not be in for a long while, you are for now better off with more but smaller hardpoints (which also benefit from more shots in the capacitors as well as versatility). So yes, currently, Morphs statement is inaccurate.
The C8X is my fav of all the ships you have listed. I always have a C8X in my inventory. It responds in 41sec and can get from Grim Hex to Microtech in one tank. It also held 1.7 million during Jumptown.
Loved this video! Could you do video on mid-range ships ? Something you get after the starter that's more capable but also more expensive ( maybe $100-$400 ) ships.
When I bought the game in 2015 I could upgrade my Aurora MR to an Aurora LN, and I'm glad I did. It replaces the upper size 1 weapon mounts with size 2 mounts, and a size 4 missile rack on the top. It's actually a really capable little fighter.
My recommendation have also always been Titan or Aurora if you can't justify the higher price. I do love the 100 series though, it's just about perfect for delivering boxes or raiding and looting bunkers. In combat it requires a skilled pilot (don't get hit) but it's nimble enough to be very dangerous to much bigger ships.
Something worth mentioning about the nomad is it's fuel. I got it as a starter ship and I almost immediately noticed how much hydrogen fuel it ate up. Still a good starter though.
True dat. For some reason this Nomad can't really stay in the wilderness for too long. Sometimes I wonder why they gimped it's capacitor and fuel efficiency. Now it's bad at hauling cargo and flying around in general AND combat at the same time.
@@UncleBenjs yeah, I'm flying it like that. But it still bothers me that it uses significant amount of fuel bar just to leave atmosphere. And supposedly they increased it's fuel capacity in 3.17
I’m literally buying a gaming pc just to play this game, it may have bugs and it gets wiped every now and then but I still think it’s better than elite dangerous.
Even though not in the list of starters technically speaking, I really like the 300i. It’s price-tag is just above the Avenger, and it has pretty much the same capabilities (excluding the ramp of the avenger) while looking nicer. I don’t know why, but I just really like its design with the glass-roof and overall just how cozy it feels inside. The Nomad is a great next step if you are willing to spend a bit more.
I really like your content on those ships and the starter guides you've made for new players, makes we want to buy and dive in for the game and everything it offers. Alas, I still need to upgrade my desktop for a more better experience. Keep up the good work!
The Mustang just does it for me, the view is amazing while riding, the mobility is superb for a starter, the fighting capabilities decent, and boi is it fun to ride in. But, I do agree it does not offer much in terms of versatility and might not be the best starter for most people.
Exactly, I actually managed to complete bounties til VH with a Mustang. I bet Morph didn't even spend 10 min with one and just bashed it because versatile = OP apperantly.
I've had every one of these ships in my hangar at one point or another. Still have a couple of them. The Origin 100i is awesome. It handles wonderfully, it could fly forever while they have fuel hydrogen generation running, tons of class. The Pisces is a lot of fun, and makes a perfect in-system run-about and small cargo mission ship. If it could get some passenger seats (like the space-mini-van it appears to be) it'll also be perfect for passenger transport. The range on it is insane, even when you upgrade to a faster Q-drive. I use mine a lot to go between planet-side and orbital stations instead of flying my larger ships down into atmo. Loved the Titan when I had it, by far the most versatile small ship. The Nomad is nice, but I can't believe they didn't put a damn door from the interior onto the flat-bed.
My starter was the Aurora CL, one of the most basic ships but I love that ship. I still remember my first time taking off in it from Port Olisar to do a package mission.
As an update: The Mustang Alpha has been upgraded to allow the internal inventory to be accessed from the drop-down cargo area, allowing the pilot to run box missions and store looted weapons/goods.
also maaaybe can be used to transport someone? i mean the container can be opened and someone can enter the box while crouched. Not ideal, but its still something
Had that problem very consistently in 3.16 but in my (admittedly limited) testing in the 3.17 PTU (which is now LIVE) the ship hasn't randomly exploded on me. Which is great because otherwise the Titan is the *perfect* ship of its size. Fingers crossed the random explosions have stopped.
@@ArchangelUltra There was also an issue linked to heavy armor and possibly medium/heavy backpacks causing ships to randomly explode (usually upon exiting the ship). Perhaps CIG has managed to track down what was causing these random explosions and fixed the issue. I was usually running around in medium armor with a medium backpack and had my ships randomly blowing up on me. Then I started wearing a light backpack and suddenly the problem went away. So it seems that something was messing things up there; either heavy armor or medium-heavy backpacks (or both) 😃
@@DanakarEndeel My issues with the Titan were always in flight. Totally empty space, coasting around, nothing to hit or be killed by, then poof. To date I have not been killed by the ramp bug *knocks wood*
@@ArchangelUltra Hmmm, that's wierd. I don't recall that ever happened to me. Then again I must admit I haven't been flying my Avenger a lot (mostly during Xenothreat events due to the ease of lobbing cargo in the back) and I don't recall blowing up. Ah well, here's hoping that they managed to find what was causing it and fixed it now. 😃
I got a mustang as my starter. Took just a couple of days for me to upgrade it to a Gladius. 3 months later I got a mustang Gamma and I love it. I use it as a super quick to claim ship that I can get about in. If I die in a mission I can respawn and fly this back. So much quicker and leaves the ship I was in still there for me to reuse and salvage what was in it. The gamma has the speed advantage. Love it.
I'm glad someone has finally pointed out the issues with the Mustang. So many other TH-camrs recommend this ship but it is lacking in gameplay features. Thankyou for also pointing out why it is important that the starter ships are playable.
100i is great because it can be spawned on the smallest landing pads in the game. It can be spawned on the same landing pad that an Argo Cargo can be spawned on. So if a capital ship uses an extra small landing pad and not a specialized snub bay, the 100i and its variants can be used.
The Mustang Alpha's cargo box was updated relatively recently and can be opened and used to haul box mission packages and even players although the latter is not recommended. I think this video could use an update since that was a pretty major update to the Mustang Alpha in regard to its practicality as a starter ship.
I’ve been playing SC for just the past couple weeks with a Mustang Alpha as my starter ship-it is possible to put those delivery boxes behind the pilot seat, but not in a way that’s easy or intuitive. You have to pull up the landing gear and land with the tips of the wings and parkour inside, or you can try throwing them like basketballs, depending on the local gravity.
Something need mentioning is that the Aurora MR and Pisces both fit nicely in a snub hangar(Carrack) while the 100i needs to angle in to fit. For the Mustang, it needs to utilize more of the rear of the cockpit and have an option to enter to the rear to bring mission boxes aboard easily as with some sort of physicalized storage(weapon, suit, other lockers). I do find the Titan to be the best overall starter and that the Outland is just to expensive to be worth while. It was also not mentioned that the Outlands will have a ship based tractor beam in the future that none of the others have. Nice Vid
My favorite part of the titan was being able to hit up many FPS missions and tossing loot boxes in the back with no worries about access since the front has a ladder as well. Just toss boxes in the back and forget about them until you deposit them in a space station
I have been thinking about buying my first ship and was wondering witch starter ship I should chose. Thanks for this video It helped a lot. Great job as always.
I am SO HAPPY you have read any of the THRAWN books. Some of the best Star Wars content out there falls under Thrawn's stories. Glad to see that in your catalogue.
I reluctantly started with the mustang, being a green horn who is chat focused it gets better after upgrading the power plant, weapons shields etc. But the biggest thing is not having that interior space, making you limited to only combat missions for making money, wish I had started with the 100I or Titan, but the price points were a bit high for my budget at the time, after flying the titan in the free fly that accoured just after I made my pledge I fell in love, definitely going to be my next ship purchase when I get back into the verse
I have the Mustang Alpha, You can now access the rear cargo and open the back of it for box missions. Or if you crouch you can get inside and put things in ship inventory.
The timing of this video is impeccable, seeing as i finished watching the review of the chair mounts and the tobii and was debating last night if i were to star citizen, which ship id start with.
It may be weird but there is a special place in my heart for the small ships in Star Citizen. The quirks they bring and the usability of a small ship just really appeals to me. I fly my 100i more than any other ship just because its fun to fly. So while I use my bigger ships for running cargo and mining, I keep coming back to the 100i purely because its FUN. Great video Morph!
plus later when oh need to cheak this place out flying there in a large ship will just mean that if you did not find gold you just spend a lot of money getting there. also small ship have smaller radar and space radar signature meaning if you skirt around on a planet looking for anything interesting ods are your not going to be seen/detected even whit system in normal mode (aka nothing suspicious) larger ship needs to activate sneak mode for that and that brings its own host of problem. and currently we only have 3 planet and one system and when star citizen launches if it ever will, we will have multiple planets this is the game where you would for example on a wednesday fly from your home to a system/planet. tursday fly around and scan for mineral and start to mine it. friday complet the mining. saturday fly back home. kind of game where by in wow the above would take 3 hour a friday evening tops.
I tried SC around 4 years ago, but back then the 25 fps (poor optimization) caused me to only play for a few days. I had bought the Avenger (Stalker) thinking arresting bounties would be awesome. It was quite a waste. I got back on again about 6 months ago And almost immediately upgraded to the Nomad. The nomad is such an awesome ship for newbie solo adventuring. It can do low level combat, is pretty tanky , but being able to put a ROC miner in the back let's solo/new players make some really quick money to start doing upgrades or get better ships. After a couple weeks I stopped playing again and came back today and upgraded to the Cutlass Black. Even though it is a "better ship".. I kind of miss my Nomad.
I have a Nomad. Im also thinking about upgrading it to Cutty, which will only cost me 10 bucks (since im already have 10 on account), cause i want more cargo to transport more quant per run and also better combat possibilities. But i really dont like the interior and cockpit design and practicality. Also it's a lot less nimble, which makes ROC mining a pain in the ass and less efficient; claim time is huge. Guess i'll just stick with Nomad, cause it's still gives a lot of possibilities to earn for a better ships and much better daily runner, than a Cutty.
just keep in mind that you can get all the shiny ships ingame as well. no need to spend much, titan is already a luxury starter in terms of money making potential.
Nice rundown of the ships. Regarding the Mustang Alpha starter ship: If CIG added the "exit-the-pilot-seat" code that the current Mustang Beta has (that is, the option to leave to the right and stand up behind the seat) then you could at least access the ship's inventory.
Happy to see you mention that CIG should send in some upgrades and love to those original starter ships. Also I agree, the starter ship is the new player’s portal into the verse, give ‘em some freedom! ;p
8:24 Thanks, I fell for the Mustang hype when it first came out and regretted it ever since. Luckily, there was also a time shortly after where everybody who had purchased the mustang package also temporarily got an aurora because you couldn't exit the mustang without falling through the surface of planets forever.
bought the Pisces in game for like 900k. I love it for bunkers. land by the door, load the bodies. great fun. also super cool that it will be a size 1 ship that can be called at mining stations like the 100i
I started with an Aurora and upgraded to the Titan within 3 days. Even now after 5-6 years I still have a Titan in my fleet one of my favorite ships and will always have an open spot in my fleet. Instant claim and just an all-around great ship.
I was thinking of melting my Reliant and Avenger Titan and upgrading. But now I think I will wait. I did not know they took out the Reliant out of the starter packs. Been about a year and a half since I last touched the game. Thanks for the "guide", very helpful.
Been subscribed since you did that survival series on Space Engineers way back. Glad I stayed subscribed because you now produce the very best Star Citizen content! Always enjoy your SC uploads.
Great video as always Morphologis. I always try to help new players. I only have an Avenger as I got it on a sale a year or two ago for $50 and for a starter ship it's not too bad. This was before the Pisces and Nomad other options of course.
A fully kitted out Aurora with laser cannon repeaters is a very fast nimble ship and can do the 890 Jump boarding action mission which can bag you 50k a time, X2 available one after the other just have to fly from Arc Corp to Microtech. I made a good million Credits in a week, I still use it from time to time thrashing it around those asteroid fields chasing targets, love it.
I'll agree the Titan is def the best starter ship, assuming it's the only ship you're gonna have. It was what I started with, it served me well with bounty hunting, was a great ship. But being one who likes luxury, I eventually upgraded to the 325a. When the Nomad released though, I melted down my starter pack, got the Titan again, upgraded it to the Nomad with LTI, and bought the 325a separate with 10 year insurance. This way I have a ship that's okay for starter combat and gives me my luxury, while I have another for carrying a ROC, and acts as a flying apartment. In the end tho, everyone should remember, all packages can be traded in for store credit (melting as people refer to it), so you can then upgrade or downgrade and use leftover cash towards other stand alone ships, etc, at any time. You always have to have at least one starter pack to play ofc, but it's a very useful system.
I have an Aurora MR which I upgraded according to a guide: JS-300 powerplant, Atlas Warp Drive, 2 x 7SA Concord Shield Boosters, 2 x Task Force missiles and two extra Bulldog guns on the wings. Its doing great in space and as you say, is challenged in atmospheric conditions. So far I only managed adding two cargo boxes to its cargo rail, trying to snap a third made the ship explode, so yeah. A wel. A great all-round starter I think.
I originally pledged with an Aurora. I came back to the game after five years, and still enjoyed it, but forked out a bit more to upgrade it to an Avenger Titan. The difference is night and day. Love the Titan!
I always saw the Mustang Beta as the true starter mustang. No cargo, but you get an interior with bed kitchenette and shoilet. The cockpit view remains just as amazing. The interior allows access to internal storage and with a tractor beam or a good throw, your box missions can be placed inside the cabin.
Been playing the game for 3 weeks and love it. I went with your avenger suggestion and was not disappointed. It’s an amazing ship early on. I do hope CIG one day make the interior a bit more interactive like opening drawers and panels. Great video overall!
you can count on that, titan will get its gold standard with all these basics too. that ship is a keeper, even when you got access to bigger or stronger ships there is always a place for the titan.
Worth mentioning the 100i can be spawned on tiny vehicle pads at lunar bases, enabling you to always have a way off world. Even if you get better ships, the usefulness of this feature enables the 100i to remain relevant. Also the 100i being such a tiny ship, makes it useful for stealth operations, such as picking up escaping inmates from prison, and ferrying them to a larger safer ship, or directly to a security depot.
Lol. My son got the arrow for his starter. I told him to get whatever ship excites him the most and that's what he chose. I got the 325A for that same reason. And even all these years later I still have and love that ship. This is what happens when you get a ship that excites you on a personal level instead of focusing simply on what's "best"
8:00 I used to climb on containers and jump at the rear of the seat so I could put boxes in it. Done it yesterday, still works. But to anyone who hates to negociate things this way, just trade it off for an aurora o/
When I got into SC in December I got the Mustang, after trying to do my 1st box mission I traded it into a C8X Pieces, love its sci-fi transport ship interior. My little Pieces helped me make my 1st million during Jump Town when I was able to farm 40 drug packages.
Ok, my thoughts: Aurora MR: Honestly, there's not much else to be said about this ship. You pretty much nailed it. Mustang: I agree that the Alpha is a terrible starter ship unless you're doing combat (then it becomes the go-to budget starter). However, this ship gets a bit of a trick up its sleeve when you consider upgrades - the Beta. The Mustang Beta trades its cargo rack out for a camper van style interior, giving the player access to an internal inventory at the expense of locking them out of trading kiosks. However, this tradeoff is mostly beneficial, since cargo trading isn't very profitable at such low capacities unless you're carrying low-volume, high-value goods anyway. My suggestion for Mustang fans is to get the Alpha, try a basic trading run (the AV run is a good choice if you have the credits to invest in it) and if you decide cargo runs aren't for you, immediately upgrade to the Beta and don't look back. If you decide to get back into cargo running later down the road, the light multicrew ships (Cutlass, 'Lancer, etc.) are honestly better picks for this role and make great second ships. C8X: If you know you're going to do cargo trading, this is your budget option. But like I said when talking about the Mustang, if you really want to do trading, you want something a bit bigger than a runabout. Hauling cargo as your main job in a starter ship is like racing in an Idris - it doesn't really work. 100i: This ship honestly reminds me of when the 300i used to be considered a starter ship, and it really is what the 300i used to be before it got beefed up. Avenger: I remember when this ship was still new. This was the bugmobile - it would explode if you looked at it funny while on the pad, it would bounce around in the hangar, it was easy to clip into or get stuck inside, etc. I really like how far this ship has come. Nomad: I have to agree - just get a Cutlass Black or a Freelancer at this point. The Cutty will outperform it in every way and the Freelancer packs a bigger punch and carries over two and a half times the cargo, while also adding multicrew support. The Nomad is a good ship on paper but a terrible value. Also, is it just me or does this thing look like it came straight out of Elite Dangerous? One other ship to mention: the Cutlass Black. Yes, I know it's not really considered a starter ship by CIG and it's above $100. But it checks all the boxes of what a starter ship needs to do while outperforming all of them in some if not all categories. It can do cargo running with an actually profitable capacity. It can do salvage and looting with tons of space. It handles like a fighter, albeit a heavy one, and has a high top speed in both space and atmosphere. It has solid combat capabilities. Its range is good enough to do a round-trip from Crusader to microTech. It can even carry up to four passengers provided they're willing to sit in the turret, copilot seat or beds. AND it can multicrew. If you have the money for any of the higher-priced starters, just get this instead.
Ive been using the Avenger Titan for years and every time theres a full server wipe and Ingot to start from scratch, i always breathe easy knowing I have a competent ship to start from scratch on. Easily capable enough to handle MRTs (and even the odd HRT if I get lucky), plenty of cargo/homie space for box and bunker missions, even the canopy opens up so I can get out into Zero G faster for 890 jump missions, saving me precious seconds to hunt down the eluside hacking module. This ship has MADE Star Citizen for me and for 5 dollars more, i got a nice green camo pattern for her to give my penguin some character. The only adjustable i would make beyond upgrading the shields, cooling systems, powerplant and quantum drive, would be to switch out the size 3 gatling gun for either a panther laser repeater or a size 3 distortion repeater. (As somone who's only a decent pilot, I cant stand flying missions against fast bois when i dont have the advantage of gimbal mounts) (Plus the distortion repeater is fun when you wanna hijack somone elses ship and take it for a free test drive.)
I recently got a Avenger Titan ingame because I wanted to deliver some boxes and thought using my MSR to be a little excessive. Oh man I love this ship. Its versatile, has decent cargo.. its a wonderful little ship that can get you up and running in no-time. It costs a bit more, but damn it's worth it. I definitely reccomend people get this ship when they're starting out in Star Citizen
bros got content so good it singlehandedly keeps me invested in a game i have never played for 3 years now
Same but I’m starting with some friends soon so hopefully all of my knowledge from watching videos over the years comes into handy
Same, I make one video a month on SC and don’t log in at any other time. Big breaks between playing mean I get that buzz when I do.
I don’t even have a pc and have already bought a 100i starter package 😂
@@jaydenbrewer9465 dedication :-)
@@BS-cz6tw CIG indirectly does. Morph has connections with CIG and CIG even uses his footage in even the "biggest" presentations, complete with onscreen credits. CitCon comes to mind, per example. Furthermore, you can be assured CIG watched his content and takes notes. And then some. ;)
Players might replace the Titan later for something bigger and shinier, but they rarely regret starting with it. She's just too good ^^
Also carries a few of the smallest ground vehicles, probably the smallest ship that can do that.
You have good taste
Thankss
Yes ! I only have a pisces that i bought with the game back then and now i have like 5 ships ig without even farming auec that much
@@ashtpres I did bounty’s with the aurora up to High Risk Targets around Yela at Crusader. Saved up to 1.7M aUEC and bought myself a hornet. With that beast you can even do ERT‘s (however that requires some time and a lot of piloting skill)
you couldve saved up to 2 mil for a vanguard, which cheeses bounties
@@tavianarmstrong974 That thing melts targets like a hot knife through butter and has decent handling for its size.
(I drop mostly bodies there, to loot later)
It's a lot of fun, it only lacks a bed and thicker walls for it's cargo because some items tends to slip through the walls.
Mustang was my starter ship last year, it wasn't great by all means but I quickly got the money to do some upgrades and it became fairly reliable for most BH and claim jumper missions, I plan to upgrade to a titan soon as I get back into the game later this year but since I last played( earlier last year) I still found it enjoyable to fly
was this game even in alpha in 2015?
With ladders you have to faff around a lot more, and climbing ladders is slow - which is fine if you like catching bullets with your back :)
For me the Avenger Titan is my first choice, followed by the 100i (which has shallow steps rather than a ramp), then the Pisces.
The flip of that is ramps let other people follow you in even if you don't want them to, while ladders are more secure.
thing with the 100i that does it for me, since it's mostly my runabout, is that it takes a Burst drive while being able to QT to the entire system
The 100i is also XXS sized.
Congrats on the Audible sponsor Morph! :) You do great work for this community and your visuals are always unrivaled ❤️
The 100i also has the easiest ingress/egress out of all the other ships which greatly reduces the risk of death via ladder or ramp. Not only that, it makes box courier missions an absolute breeze
then there’s me who just died to my 100i ramp last night
The 100i is the single worst ship in the game I think along with the aurora.
Come on guys, we all know the best starter ship is the 890J. It also has a useable interior for personal storage, a lot of guns, but more importantly, you can host parties on it.
Idk man, it’s a little bit too small for my standards💅✨. I’d suggest copping a Reclaimer or two🚀🚀
@@bloodyblase3074 just go straight to the big carriers Bengal class, you can bring your own garage full of ships
Nope... Need that aircraft carrier for box missions... 🤣
@@JoaKimzen Keep your throttle under red, the higher in red you go, the more fuel you use up. Air resistance is a thing in Star Citizen.

Love my Aurora, with head tracking it’s one of the nicest ships to chill in and explore. The cockpit is just amazing
Same. Maybe it's because it was my first ship, but there's something special about being in an Aurora.
Check out the MISC Reliant Kore, the view from it's cockpit is second to none!

I started with the RSI Aurora, and after flying a LOT of the other ships (thank you IAE), I've come to realize it's actually a fast, manoeuvrable ship that I quite enjoy flying. I wish it had more missiles though.
I have one as well, but there is a bug I experienced where the bed will kill you. That makes it not my favorite ship anymore. :)
Patience, brother.
CIG still not having fixed the Mustang's loot carrying capability is nothing short but a crime.
Especially considering the Mustang, Aurora, and Avenger have all already had a rework. These entry level ships should have been finished years ago.
After watching this video I transfered my mustang back and brought a 300i. Problem was I lost ability to play so have to buy a starter package again! I hate this game so frustrating and buggy but looks so good I keep coming back!
Just upgrade to the Mustang Beta.
I usually fly around in my carrack, so I usually tell my friends to go with an aurora or a pisces.
CURRENTLY.
It is probably an oversight.
Maybe, maybe not. It's all about the vehicle size which is the sanest way to limit what can be spawned where.
My buddy and I do the same thing with his Cutty Black and my Freelancer MIS.
Cant wait to see the gold standard pass on all the ships. There's a huge variation in quality and features due to their ages.
Hope everything is good with the young one
Good luck with your kid... I hope everything went/goes well..
@@the_omg3242 CIG wants people to be happy flying any ship I think :)
@gas the bikes Toxic much?
@@DanakarEndeel they also said many other things that have been cut, but it's likely that will be a thing.
Hiya, for the differences between reliant series and avenger it goes as follows
Reliant series pros:
More pilot DPS(for now)
turrets that can be copilot controlled
Lots of missiles(Tana)
Switching flight modes(personal taste)
Avenger series pros:
More cargo(6 on kore vs 8 on titan)
Smaller cross section
Larger size of guns(less total though)
Slight handling advantages
Reliant series cons:
Huge and brittle cross section
Has to choose between cargo space or a bed
Insufficient power plant if stock
Avenger series cons:
No role for multicrew
@@de5pa1r34 hey thanks for the reply! I really appreciate your insight!
I've been playing this game for over a year now but still find myself looking at a beginners guide, just because your content is so amazing. Keep it up :)
Well, better cross "starter ship guide" off my schedule xD Great video! I especially enjoyed the footage of the Nomad leaving the flowers.
Thanks Morphologis for another amazing video. I recently got the game and got the 100i and I love it!❤ love your videos man! Keep it up!😊
Your videos are so thorough and entertaining, that I'm willing to watch any SC content you put in front of me, despite me hating the game's lack of progress and greedy prices with a passion 😄
So, good job!
Now it's bad at hauling cargo and flying around in general AND combat at the same time.
and they even reduced the hydrogen consumption a couple patches ago^^; originally you couldn't fly 30 mins with it planetside, looking for gems, etc.!
@@Balion1976 Yeah, I know. Maybe they're pushing people to buy Cuttie B.
Try using decoupled more, and boost less, and you'll get more mileage out of it
@@UncleBenjs yeah, I'm flying it like that.
Nice! Hope to see ya soon o7
As a new player, that's become addicted but also feel's EXTEMELY overwhelmed with everything, these videos are a god send! Thank you!
This. I was actually surprised it wasn't mentioned, is the 300i no longer available bundled with game access?
@@twistsnakeanklesvids261 I don’t actually know, I just assumed so because of the 300i not being mentioned.
I bet Morph didn't even spend 10 min with one and just bashed it because versatile = OP apperantly.
good news. it's cargo got fixed now
@^R1flE yeah. You actually can get in there yourself and access ship inventory without getting into the pilot seat
@^R1flE given that they've also fixed bed logging, i'd still prefer aurora probably
The Nomad is nice, but I can't believe they didn't put a damn door from the interior onto the flat-bed.
avenger is so good its been everyone's top recommendation for like 6 years now. ship is truly a gem
but on the other hand meta is so stale. at least they released a nomad which is a lot better for an industrial guys...
But there is no protection from elements - so survivability not quarantine ;)
Great content as always! I personally went for the Mustang Alpha and then simply traded it in for a Origin 325A. Best decision I ever made.
when i first saw the nomad on the site i thought the top weapons was a turret. sadly it wasnt a turret but i still like the ship
best looking Starter-Guide, i´ve ever seen. Thank you, for your content.
I liked my Avenger Titan but it really needs some love. It has a tendency to explode randomly when inside it. A really big turnoff for newbies.
Love it.
I really like my nomad. Although I know that there are better ships out there I'm still just attached to this ship.
I agree, I kinda like it 's character.
I'm glad someone has finally pointed out the issues with the Mustang. So many other TH-camrs recommend this ship but it is lacking in gameplay features. Thankyou for also pointing out why it is important that the starter ships are playable.
The C8X expedition was on sale for $45 during the Invictus launch week and I'm in love with this ship.
Fact that the Avenger Titan has been around so long and it's still arguably the best starter ship is a testament to just how good it is.
You can crouch in the mustangs "cargo" area and get into the local inventory.
That opening shot was something else. Morphologist certainly knows how to take breathaking shots.
Great video Morph!
plus later when oh need to cheak this place out flying there in a large ship will just mean that if you did not find gold you just spend a lot of money getting there.
also small ship have smaller radar and space radar signature meaning if you skirt around on a planet looking for anything interesting ods are your not going to be seen/detected even whit system in normal mode (aka nothing suspicious)
larger ship needs to activate sneak mode for that and that brings its own host of problem.
and currently we only have 3 planet and one system and when star citizen launches if it ever will,
we will have multiple planets this is the game where you would for example on a
wednesday fly from your home to a system/planet.
tursday fly around and scan for mineral and start to mine it.
friday complet the mining.
saturday fly back home.
kind of game where by in wow the above would take 3 hour a friday evening tops.
I tried SC around 4 years ago, but back then the 25 fps (poor optimization) caused me to only play for a few days.
I had bought the Avenger (Stalker) thinking arresting bounties would be awesome. It was quite a waste.
I got back on again about 6 months ago
And almost immediately upgraded to the Nomad.
I started out about a month ago, got the titan, and I still keep coming back to it from my 315P and other ships, its just an amazing ship
Love the Titan. Hands down the best overall starter. Thanks for another great vid! ♥
I think you've finally convinced me to cough up the money and get a starter. Knowing what I can actually expect makes me a lot more comfortable.
just keep in mind that you can get all the shiny ships ingame as well. no need to spend much, titan is already a luxury starter in terms of money making potential.
Also I agree, the starter ship is the new player’s portal into the verse, give ‘em some freedom! ;p
100i can be spawned on size 1 pads , thats an incredible get for not getting stranded during deliveries and rescues
I love it for bunkers. land by the door, load the bodies. great fun. also super cool that it will be a size 1 ship that can be called at mining stations like the 100i
I love my Nomad, its cozy, reliable, and makes me feel like an adventurer
I remember flying my mustang before grim hex was even in the game, loved hanging around the rings of spk with a sniper in those days
Dammit. Was just about to get ready for bed, but now I feel like taking my 100i for a spin.
My starter is the Origin 135c.... I wish my starter was the Constellation Andromeda but I do love my blue space BMW :D
When I got into SC in December I got the Mustang, after trying to do my 1st box mission I traded it into a C8X Pieces, love its sci-fi transport ship interior. My little Pieces helped me make my 1st million during Jump Town when I was able to farm 40 drug packages.
you could have used the tractor beem and put the boxes behind the pilot seat
Ok, my thoughts:
Aurora MR: Honestly, there's not much else to be said about this ship.
(As somone who's only a decent pilot, I cant stand flying missions against fast bois when i dont have the advantage of gimbal mounts)
(Plus the distortion repeater is fun when you wanna hijack somone elses ship and take it for a free test drive.)
