The derivative is increasing, meaning the acceleration of the acceleration, as they leverage more people and newer tools turning years of effort and man-hours into weeks or days. Genesis alone is huge.
It was a lovely event! Saw you in the crowd a couple of times too. Glad you enjoyed it, and hopefully some of what they showed us will actually make it into the game :D
@@1scrub2 I think I specifically avoided those words - because it's not what I want. But because Pyro is in the middle, I will have no alternative if I want to go to Castra. Looking at the map I understand "why" they chose Castra, but many of us dont want to go through conflict zones.

I agree and the Starlancer TAC is a mini Carrack focused on tactical missions. And the Fury hangar is a great little feature and I can't wait to see what else people will try to fit into it.
@@RaysGuide Oh for sure, I actually mentioned to my partner who got me into SC (she was a KS backer) that it looked like the front end of the Starlancer could almost be used to gold-standard the Starfarer

Ray you are always welcome with any org I will keep running with if you want to get in on the perks of org play. There is going to be salt and division on Spectrum of course but gamers that want a good game knew it was a matter of time before SC had to resolve its identity crisis to be sustainable. I am really glad that Chris Roberts handed some of the reins off so he can focus on the single player adventure game style that made him famous in the first place. What we saw of SQ42 the last 2 years made it clear he still knows the formula and I am satisfied with everything but the date without a demo to play. It's better for the PU to be directed by people with undivided attention and more experience with MMOs/Live service games. PvP and PvE games are hard enough to make well but putting them under one PvA roof is peak challenge but feasible. I heard they brought in another former Crytek director who worked on the Warhammer series of games which are hot at the moment. I am an old EvE player, so I liked most of what I saw today if not expected it. I was mostly industrial focused but did the null sec wars and commanded fleets so we could build a permanent station with our names as the builders when they lasted on the map forever and there was this one moon with a view the boss had to have... I'm glad CR's letting Rich take some risks and solving the biggest problem SC has, coherence, which lends to the problems not server related with the game. He called it out in ISC iirc not too long after getting promoted. The game is many things to many people with many components of games, but they are not coherent or consistently implemented and that has to change fast even if disruptive for the game to have a viable future. If they don't the game will slowly grow like a slime mold culture that gets thrown out eventually because it's too ugly to look at anymore vs a diamond crystalized gem people would be proud to show off as something of value.
a players preparation for a fight is just as important as the fight itself, crafting the right tool for the job has a place in video games, because not everybody is an esports shooter gamer

I can see space bases being permanent and tied to a shard simply for the fact that it will have to house multiple people logging in and out at various times. They might go with an eve online timer for raids so people can have time to get online and defend.

After this weekend I've decided to take up working a second job and all my proceeds after taxes will be put towards SC. If you believe in changing the future of entertainment, you need to put your money where your mouth is.
I really really hope we get to see SOME kind of base building in 4.0, even if it's super basic. Also not clear how defending your stuff will work. Which shard will your base be visible at? All of them? Does it only show up if someone is online? I guess that's the stuff they need to solve first, before being able to release it, even if base building itself works
Having a masters in architecture and civil engineering I had the same questions as you. We MUST have the ability in game to create and build blueprints of our bases. Otherwise we are going to end up seeing players build bases haphazard and ultimately be unhappy with them because they are not working as intended. Unless they include the ability to destruct and reconstruct, perhaps with a penalty of sorts, but move structures none the less, we are going to get into a situation where the universe is littered with abandoned bases and buildings.
I agree people need the ability to plan their base layout - either in-game using the drone 3rd-person view, or using a separate tool. But I played Second Life back in the day, and I think CIG will be doing well if they can prevent players from building bases in the shape of giant penises :-)
The point about pvp is slightly flawed; most MMOs have some level of gear strata in combat.. in wow or ESO or destiny 2, if you go into any pvp matches with stock/default gear, you’re going to have a really hard time. But that’s exactly what drives the gameplay. People want the uber-special build in WOW, so they farm for days or weeks. We need this. CIG needs this. The people complaining about “oh it’ll ruin skill based fights” seemingly have never played any major MMOs, because I have never (never!) seen a game where the equipment is always perfectly equal.
Yeah, I'm personally very intrigued on your take for base building, station gameplay, and PVP regarding player owned locations.
