  • We have been off grid in our tiny house for 2 1/2 years. We have things we like and things we don't like. Join us as we show you how we have managed to deal with things like pantry storage, off grid appliances, no closets and still managed to get a king size bed in there! We designed the house trying to use the space to it's maximum potential. We're still trying to figure some things out.

    I did the same with mine. Open concept and it's easier to find stuff. I'm in the process of 14 x 40 barn coversion into a tiny home.

    I LOVE your design and use of space! I get that the clothes hanger can be frustrating but I really love it because it's a great use of space and you still get to have plenty of clothes for tiny living. Especially with the different seasons. Funny note- I have that exact same bathroom vanity in my bathroom. I really love it.

    Love your house. Looks very comfortable. Your use of space is amazing. Good idea for a freeze dryer. Easier to keep food with so little fridge/freezer space.

    What a sweet place. We live off grid in a 517 sq.ft. cabin in Northern Central Maine. You gave me some good ideas for storage. Thank you! We moved from a 1500 sq.ft. place and tho I love it here, I'd be lying if I said space wasn't a challenge. We just bought a lightly used Unique Off Grid Stove. I'm glad you told me about the oven because that was why the lady sold it so cheaply to us! She thought a there was something wrong with it because the oven didn't start right away. My kitchen space is just about like yours and I agree, I wouldn't give up my island for anything. I use it for everything. Your place is beautiful. The UP is on our bucket list to visit. I never knew MI was so beautiful until I watched videos on here.

    Great house and great design! A couple of suggestions for closets: build very tall, thin ones on each side of the bed so you can have an upper and lower racks to hang stuff. If you're missing nightstands due to the closets, do a headboard with shelves and/or build a pull out shelf between the upper and lower racks of your closets.
    For additional cabinetry, you could do upper cabinets between the 2 closets. This design, along with the closets, is something similar to bedroom layout in campers, only they don't tend to have such tall closets.
    To hide your other bedroom shelving, install a long, regular curtain on a regular rod OR do a shower curtain or wire or push rod.
    I know what you mean about having bunches of stuffs for something you love to do. I'm glad you have room to enjoy cooking. For myself, I have oodles of beads and enjoy making jewelry.
    Hope this helps! I really enjoyed seeing your lovely home! :)

    We have a very similar sized and laid out home. It is fun to see what we did the same and where we made different decisions. I envy your pantry, but we have a closet. We also have storage over the bathroom. Wasn't that a great idea? We have a septic and electric, so we have room for an apartment sized washer and dryer someday. We have a smaller bedroom (queen sized bed) and a little more living space, but I have a slightly smaller kitchen area. You went for "rustic cabin" and we have more of a "farmhouse". Thank you for sharing. It was great to see and you have reminded me that I really want to have a pot rack.

    I love to cook also. So yes, I have considerable amount of cookware and utensils in my off grid cabin. I've collected antique kitchen items for years as display decor, I've stylized based upon 1800s hearth cooking. I premeditated about a true grid down situation and how to live reasonably comfortable without any utilities or needs of social structure. Not as a means to escape society but just bracing for a collapse of , economic. People out there have doomer ideas but reality is folk should be more concerned about economic fail. Going off grid basically means to homestead, work for a fully self sustaining system. These are the points I believe us off grider folks need to teach those interested in this lifestyle. Great video, I'm just making suggestions for future videos, such as learning old recipes of 1800s based off what homesteaders can obtain
    There are thousands of videos about off grid cabin construction but not much about actual pioneer life and cooking, those are extremely important to learn, because the younger generations are craving this knowledge, today we live in a store made world so most people don't know how to butcher a chicken. I know it's graphic subjects for videos, but how else could they learn. We need to get creative and teach these values to the folks wanting a off grid lifestyle

    • @ADifferentKindofQuiet
      @ADifferentKindofQuiet  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A cord of wood is 4ft high 8 foot wide and 4 foot deep, a face cord is only 16 inches deep. So a face cord is 1/3 of a full cord. Thanks for watching!

      A camp toaster that just sits on a burner. Or a broiler works good too but I can watch it better on the camp toaster. Anything that makes heat takes lots of power.

    • @dontworrydehappy7104
      @dontworrydehappy7104 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes, some off grid/van life/etc people talk about their stuff, but often it's to give storage ideas, better ways to set up stuff, etc. Some are very creative and make interesting inventions! They are proud of their accomplishments - and rightfully so! Lol. :)
      I think part of why she went into more detail in the kitchen is because perhaps she got a few criticisms for having so much stuff (she mentions). Maybe those people didn't understand how much of a passion she has for cooking. She downsized what she could but keeps on doing what she enjoys! Very important to keep that joy going!
      And yeah, she did say "um" a lot, but I can't criticize as it's something I do when giving speeches, etc. You don't notice you do it until seeing the video playback. We did this for speech class when I was in college. Anyways, seeing this will help her for her future videos. This one is the first one I've seen thus far.
      Cheers, friend!
