    It’s still better than 90% of people. You are still lucky, you can choose almost any career and be successful in it. This is all because of a number based of off genes, so thank your parents!!! Life is like and NBA game and iq is like height, it isn’t the sole predictor of success , but a high one can greatly help you with a good work ethic.

    My psyche prof years ago explained that beginning with an 120 (SD 15) you are capable of producing works of genius. He seems to have thought IQs much higher than that were largely unnecessary, at least if you are in the Iowa Writers Workshop. I have doubts, but that is his claim.

    The test results can impact one's life deeply. Either you'll get more self confident or end up thinking you're a failure...but in all fairness, there's a lot people out there that won't score enough but are extremely intelligent! Anyways, congratulations for trying and don't give up if that's really what you want!

    • @SharpCookie
      @SharpCookie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's very insightful! I agree that it can definitely impact how people view themselves, especially children. I actually made a video on the 9 types of intelligence that you might really enjoy. I talk about how different people are intelligent in different ways, and most of those ways aren't even found on IQ tests. I think it's so important to acknowledge that intelligence is not just about logic and reasoning. th-cam.com/video/_ocUjtB6-4Q/w-d-xo.html

    Mensa meeting - like a normal meeting but with a little less small talk.
    Unless you are talking specifically to someones field and you are also in that field, it's going to be pretty much the same as any other meeting of a group of friends.
    Also - your score can be impacted by your nerves on the day of testing, if you have a headache, if you're ill, whatever. Like I had a headache when I took the test and the one test was a complete flop (+ I have dyslexia and ADD which doesn't help OOF!) but the visual test was very very good. You only need to pass one to get in.

I was totally bashed on that specific cube test and got avarega score on it, even though I did superwell on the other tests and still ended up with a 131 score. I took the Mensa Test in 2014, didn't take any of the 3 you took, but instead was offered the Wonderlic and the MAT (Mensa Admissions Test). I didn't do so well on the wonderlic, 35/50, not enough to get in, in fact I didn't even finish, prob only answered 42 or 43 questions, it was really hard because of how little time you get. The MAT was much more of my cup of tea and I was able to get in with a score of 102 out of 150? I don't remember, but the cut-off was 97 I think. Just barely...

    • @jamesmoninger1982
      @jamesmoninger1982 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody finishes the Wonderlic test; it is not expected that you will finish, and it is not necessary to finish to score at the 98th percentile or above. On this test, a skilled test taker will skip difficult questions and find some easier ones near the end.

    I am a Mensa proctor and wondering why you chose the non-verbal tests vs. the traditional (verbal) Mensa admission tests.

    • @SharpCookie
      @SharpCookie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just practical reasons, I remember Mensa was running a sale like 20% off during a certain month and the test center near me only offered the tests twice that month so I picked the date that worked for me (they only offered certain tests on certain dates). I didn't really do any research into the differences between the tests they offered until afterwards.

      @@SharpCookie I understand. My area does testing the same way. I would encourage you to take the verbal battery sometime. I have had at least 10 candidates who did much, much better on the standard test battery than they did on the non-verbal. Your non-verbal scores (as indicated on the letter from Mensa) make me believe it is highly likely you would qualify with the verbal tests.

    Interesting video Janice! These things are always a little confusing to me because it's hard to wrap my head around what the results actually mean. They seem a little abstract to me :/

    • @SharpCookie
      @SharpCookie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes me too! The raw score is meaningless because it just tells you how many you got right, but there's no context. The percentile is what's meaningful because it compares you to everyone. And the actual IQ number is an arbitrary number that's assigned to certain percentiles. It works the same with all other types of standardized tests like SAT, GRE, GMAT, etc.

    • @Wowzersdude-k5c
      @Wowzersdude-k5c 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mensa stopped providing IQ scores in 2001 to avoid legal troubles. The psychological board will come after you for doing IQ testing without a psychologist's license. Mensa does have psychologists who work for them, but they usually aren't physically present during testing sessions. It's done by volunteers.
      So, yeah, this is why Mensa now only gives a "pass or fail" score and a percentile ranking.
      It's actually easy to convert percentiles to an IQ score yourself. You said you scored 90th percentile. This would be about a 120 IQ (Mensa requires 130). This means you're smarter than 90% of people. That's not too shabby.
      I admire people who have the balls to do stuff like that. People who audition on TV. Or military men who try out for SEAL teams. Most don't make it, but at least they tried.
      I'm not a member of Mensa, btw. I am too chicken to attempt it because I don't want my self-esteem taking a plunge. You're much braver than me. Haha

    You really should look into some of those alternative tests. I missed the Mensa cutoff by a couple of points on their test, but I later took the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) and obtained admission to both Mensa and Intertel (top 1% group).

    • @VishalRaoOnYouTube
      @VishalRaoOnYouTube ปีที่แล้ว

    • @SharpCookie
      @SharpCookie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You always get to choose what the test means to you. If you let it define how you see yourself, think about how or if that's serving you. You get to decide what is true for you. I remember in elementary school I got tested for the "gifted" program. My score wasn't high enough to get into the program. Thank goodness I didn't let that determine how I saw myself. Similarly I wasn't in the top reading group in 2nd grade when they divided up the class based on reading skills. Nobody can possibly score at the top of every test or way of categorizing people and their abilities. Whether you decide to take another IQ test doesn't matter---what matters is your beliefs about the test. Watch my video on the theory of multiple intelligences. It will help give you a new perspective.

Saying you have an IQ score of 135 is meaningless unless you also specify which test you took. 160 on one test might not qualify while 130 on another does.

    MENSA MEETINGS - Can be fun, entertaining, boring, geek-ridden, sports-lovin', beer/wine-swilling snack fests, etc --- You know, like just about any other gathering. I've enjoyed all that I've attended - and there have been some wild gatherings, over the years.
    Mensans come from all walks of life - we're not just a collective of nerdy geeks. The only qualification is to have an IQ in the top 2% of the population you're among. That's it. So we have a wide gamut of members from all over the world that have different beliefs, cultures, experiences, jobs and levels, and so on. It's a great mix, overall.
    The "worst" testing session I ever ran was when we had an earthquake in the middle of a timed test run. I stopped the timer until everything stopped shaking, and everyone felt OK to go on. I'm sure the poor participants had their minds on getting back home to see if any damage had been done to their homes or contents

    IQ is simply an weight lifting contest. People who can lift heavy weights don’t brag about it, and people who can’t lift heavy weights exaggerate how much they can lift. IQ is no different

    • @SharpCookie
      @SharpCookie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Haha, I totally agree. But it's not just about IQ or weightlifting. It affects all areas and every subject matter. As humans, we're wired to deceive in all aspects of our lives in order to improve our circumstances. For example, we make ourselves out to be "better" on social media, on interviews, on dates, in front of guests, we fluff up our test scores and grades, we present our lives differently than the reality. I guess it just is what it is! Part of the human condition.

      @@benjaminsibson8760 Haha! Yeah same with social media. The research shows that the more time you spend on it, the less happy you become because you mistakenly believe everyone is having the time of their life except for you ;) I first noticed it when my students would talk about how all their friends got like 33 on their ACT's "without studying at all." My immediate response is that "I hate to tell you this, but 99% of them are lying. They either did study and want to look cool or they didn't get a 33 or both." Then my students all feel dumb compared to their friends because of this, which is unfortunate.

    Your IQ scores are below. Fairly consistent. They should preferably all show the same score as g factor is one single factor - we don't have multiple intelligences, we do have differences in personalities though. But there can be randomness, slight differences in experience/training, and then differences on IQ variables. Women score higher on verbal tests overall, men score higher on spatial tests overall. "Culturally fair" doesn't mean the test is special, it just means there is no language in the test so that a similar intelligent Chinese or Brazilian person would get the same score on it no matter their English language skills. Translating a language test gives you the same end result though. Verbal tests are for people who have lived in the country with the language for 3 or more years, not newcomers. I don't like them as much. They also may test crystallized intelligence which is not ideal.
    Cattell Culture Fair: 113 IQ
    Non Verbal Reasoning: 116 IQ
    SRA Pictorial Reasoning Test: 119 IQ

      There’s no connection between race and intelligence. Most of the world is made up of people not from your country or race, so it would make sense that the majority of geniuses come from other countries that are not yours and other races that are not Caucasian. For example, 60% of the world’s population lives in Asia, so I would expect approximately 60% of child geniuses to live in Asia.

    I took some detailed IQ tests online, and compared my results to others who were proud enough to post their scores for the same tests online as well.

    The truth is IQ is genetic and there's not much we can do to improve it. You can gain a few points by prepping and studying, but it won't be much. At least you have a tripe digit IQ, I am not even sure I do. I'm probably chillin back in the 90's.😄
    IQ is just like natural beauty, not much we can do about it. You got natural beauty that a lot of people don't have. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. There's a lot of Mensa nerds who've never been laid (although not all - there are normal people in there too).
    You know what you should do? You should take some high-range very difficult IQ tests online. I don't mean that iqtest.com crap, but tests by guys like Paul Cooijmans who properly norms them. They are untimed and very hard, but he has a large sample he has normed it on, so it should be relatively accurate.
