I do agree to get the actual color though. Sometimes it just works out better that way in the long run. Mixing must be your superpower! Do you own any of Schminke's Random Grey? It might be a huge ask, but if you have it to match against, could you try that one? I'm obsessed with getting some, but of course it's nowhere to be found now. I'd try to mix it, but have none to match it against. I've seen a few videos where people take a crap ton of paint colors to try and mix it, but I seriously doubt that's how Schmincke really did it. I found the PB29 too warm to start and went for a blue that would neutralize that a bit and add more to the granulation. You didn't find that adding the PV19 made it too warm or purple leaning?

Absolutely the "blue" intensity varies in my experience-- not just from tube to stick, but from tube to tube. This has been quite frustrating as it is an expensive paint 😕
I have certainly noticed it from my tube to stick. I will be curious if I get another tube if it differs. I can say if it did, I might be inclined to use this mix instead of getting it again, the more I mix it the easier it will be to have a consistent color to paint with.
Or you could make a half pan of your own mix. Add each color to the pan, stir, test the color and adjust with adding more as needed. Make it the exact shade of Sodalite that you prefer.

I have all of the colors in your mix from a few different professional brands, but I don't have a tube of Sodalite Genuine. It's so expensive.

I bought a sodalite genuine about a year ago and mistakenly put a magnet near it. it collected the dark undertone and kept only the base blue (which upseted me a bit)but from this behavior I came to a conclusion that such color can be simulated with pbk11 - granulating black and pb60 Indanthrone blue.
I got the a Sodalight Gen-Like, from both Windsor Newton Paynes Grey and Fr. Ultra Ma. Blue. I used it for the shaded under growth of a Lotus specie that has huge leaves on top of each other. I feel it was a nice color but a bit opaque due to the Gaynes Gray. I suspect the Mars Black would also result in opacity but I'll try your suggestion, maybe it's better, thank you.
Very cool mix. I haven't started a Primatek collection as of yet because I'm working on primary/mixing/connivence colors. Which brings me to my question about PB83 and if it can be used safely in mixes without disappearing/fading. I seem to have collected a few more tubes than the permanent alternatives and was hoping for find a more economical use other than a vanishing monochromatic disappearing crimson cash study. Any suggestions/substitution ideas would be welcomed. Quinacridone Rose/Red or Scarlet are what I've been using so far.
I am assuming you meant PR83 Alizarin Crimson since you also talked about Quin Red/Rose or Scarlet, It will fade even in mixes and will affect the overall mix it is in. Imagine a purple, returning to blue over time because the Alizarin Crimson PR83 has faded away. Other than for work in books where it will be protected from the light or for work that you will scan and use to make prints from keeping the originals protected from the light, I am not sure what else you can do, other than use it and enjoy the color while you have it. As for sellable work, I would not use PR83 on an original I was going to sell. For your own enjoyment because you loved the color, I say go for it in mixes or on its own, but yes it can fade from even a mix over time. Sorry that's probably not the answer you were hoping for. If you check the handprint website and look under PR83 www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/waterfs.html For a one to one substitution for PR83, PR176, PR264, PR 177(a chemical cousin of alizarin) and some of the dark reddish varieties of PV19 are listed as possible alternatives to try. You may find the section an interesting read, as it goes on to suggest PR179 perylene maroon as a substitute for some mixes you would have otherwise used PR83 for. In addition PR122 quin magenta and PV19 quin rose as substitutions for mixes as well. I believe I have all of those recommended pigments from different brands in my overall collection of watercolors and each have their own wonderful qualities. Hope that might have been some help.
Has anyone else noticed that when you put a stick in a pan, it gets used up more quickly than a tube or poured pan would? It's almost like it's been whipped up with air.??? I'll notice a dent in the pan even after 1 sitting. Yet, regular pans & tubes seem to last forever.
@@mwGoosman I have 5 sticks that seem to have the same issue. I originally thought they were cheaper because they didn't have to include tubes or pans in their manufacturing... just paper. But, my thoughts are changing more to being whipped. Honestly, it didn't occur to me until today. I could be very wrong tho.
The colors I have in stick form, I am not noticing them being used up faster. Certainly not when I leave them as sticks and just activate what I need from swirling the end in a little water on my palette. I have a few sticks in half pans and they don't seem to be disappearing any faster than my others. Maybe certain colors can? I am not sure I haven't experienced it.

I love sodalite genuine. I prefer to buy 15 ml. Tubes. The price is usually not much higher, and I think it’s worth it in the long run.

Ive tried to make replicate this with pb29 pbk11 and a touch of pv19 it was pretty close!

Ah, that's interesting. I have a few tubes of Daniel Smith, but I haven't tried the sticks... that's good to know.
The sticks are also cheaper…especially with the Pimateck colors…perhaps we could do a weight comparison in grams…interesting idea, thanks!
