    I use Lemon Yellow as my cool yellow. It is super transparent and is a great mixiing color. I love to use it for lightbulbs in urban sketches because it pops out from the warmer wood tones.

      I was looking at Hansa Yellow Light PY3, but love your suggestion of Lemon Yellow PY175 because it has a higher lightfast rating. PY3 would still be acceptable at very good LF however, if the two look similar when swatched, I think I would go with your suggestion, as PY175 Lemon Yellow carries an excellent lightfast rating. Both are transparent and low staining and should mix well. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Nickel Azo Yellow...can be cool when dilute, warm toward mass tone.. it glazes beautifully. LOVE that one.

    This has been an educational pigment post. Thanks! More paints have been added to my list; not impulse buys-rather thoughtful additions.😊

      I am glad it helped. I have more on the way and the big DS palette build out will hopefully happen soon. I will share pictures of the new colors on Discord!

    Love your color choices in your palette! Maybe because landscape painting is one of my favorite painting subject, I too have loads of greens along with yellows and blues! My favorite yellow to brighten my green is Quinophthalone Yellow, Nickel Azo Yellow for interesting mixes. Daniel Smith has some of the most exciting colors and the greens are my favorites! I love Green Gold, Sap Green, Cascade Green, Green Apatite Genuine, Serpentine Green, and Undersea Green. The Primateks are so beautiful and interesting though I can’t use them for all my paintings. I put my darker Primatek paints in a small palette.

    Im going to try two colors i dont have yet in stick.ill cut them to fit pans

    • @ClarkFineArt
      @ClarkFineArt  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I put them on a cutting mat and use a craft knife. Sometimes I have to cut around them (push the knife in, remove, roll the stick a little and repeat) however they do cut easy enough. I would recommend going just smaller than you think you need if you want to lay it on it's side or cut enough so you can put it in with the end facing up. I have done both. So far the only one I have noticed a real difference between stick and tube has been sodalite. Others have commented that they notice variation in that one even from tube to tube but I won't know until I get another tube of it to test.

    The stick i have in a half pan seems to wear down far far faster than using dried paint in the pan or a ready made pan. It’s sort of more like putty and breaks down faster. But not faster than other brands like schmincke or sennelier. Their ready filled pans go twice as fast as winsor and newton and much faster than Daniel smith dried paint.

    • @ClarkFineArt
      @ClarkFineArt  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My sticks in pans do rewet easily, they are an amazing value. Sometimes I put water on the palette and just swirl the end of the stick in that to get the color I will paint with. Of course these are sticks I haven’t put into pans, but I would say my sticks in pans are only being used up slightly faster than my dried half pans that came from tube paint.

    My favorite Potter's Pinks are Roman Szmal for my travel palette because even though it's honey based, it's drier and won't leak or run like M Grahams or Michael Harding paints. For my studio palette I use Michael Harding's.
    I mostly use M Grahams in my studio, but since they have such a limited range, I supplement it with the MH's. Love PP for making granulating reds, purples oranges and browns. Use enough PP and it will color separate beautifully, or if you don't want that, use less and it will simply make the other color granulate, since the tinting strength is so low.
    My go-to yellow for a limited palette is Quin gold. use more pigment, it's warm. Water it down and it's cooler. It mixes stunning greens with Indanthrone blue and a touch of QB orange. 💚
    2nd fave yellow is Hansa med.
    I love Daniel Smith colors, just really dislike how hard they dry. If I can't find the color in the other brands or can't mix it, then I'll break down and buy them.
    One test I've been meaning to try is to mix DS's Potter's with MH's in a pan to see what the consistency turns out to be.
    With the sticks, I'd not done the tube vs stick comparison yet, no idea that the granulation would be so different! I bought 2 of PR206 since it was discontinued also and it's one of my favorite pigments.
    Apologies for the book, but I could talk pigments all day! 🤣 Thanks for sharing this great video! 🌻

      No apology necessary I loved reading your comment. I love pigments too. I love potter’s pink and am very curious what you get when you combine the two brands. Quin gold is a beautiful color. I love a potters pink and teal mixture for the color of the mix and beauty of the separation.
