Nope. He is just misleading and wrong almost every point, except for the heat part. That one is unnecessary for most, but a very useful one for laptop gamers.
moving your computer around in sleep mode has actually become less harmful in recent years thanks to solid state drives becoming the norm. They have no moving parts and therefore cannot become damaged by getting jostled around. It's the same with disk fragmentation, and in fact with SSDs you actually DON'T want to do anything about this because the drive does wear leveling on purpose which purposely fragments the drive to prevent one NAND cell from getting written to more often than another so that cells on the drive don't start dying prematurely as SSD NAND cells actually have a limited number of write cycles before they die. On top of this, defragmenting the drive would just cause the drive to get worn out faster because to relocate the data the drive controller has to zero out the one bit and write a one to another bit just causing both of those bits to have one less write cycle available before they die.
Tips from the 2000s, mostly do not apply to current equipment, just to mention a few points such as non-removable batteries, overload protection, and many many others ...
You can transport your laptop in hibernation mode because the computer fully turns off. Data is stored in the disk but the its off. You can transport the laptop in sleep mode too, if you have an SSD.
Well, most of these points are valid for ancient tech. Especially the battery-related ones. 0:548:367:14 Also with hibernation/sleep mode and fragmentation stuff. 1:265:59 Dude, did you do just copy the articles from ancient tech magazine or something?

When you hibernate your PC, it shuts down, but it saves the RAM content to the hard drive. So its actually shut down.
1. Batteries are not removable anymore and it's 2019, voltage regulators make it mostly unnecessary. 2. Sleep mode may be harmful (not sure), but hibernate is not harmful at all. When you hibernate your computer, the system copies your entire RAM in a compressed manner to your hard disk, then actually shuts down and loads it back on boot. So while the laptop is hibernated, it's drawing 0 power, just like a shut down.
Sleep mode is only harmful if your battery is bad or something software-wise is wrong. With everything working properly, if your laptop is sleeping and the battery drains to a certain level, the laptop is supposed to wake up, long enough to properly enter hibernation (or shut down if you disable hibernation).
Been plugging & unplugging my supply from the laptop itself while keeping it plugged into the outlet for 17 years. Never knew it was fatal to my laptop and it never hurt them, either.
Another tip to keep your laptop cool you can put it on an ice bath instead of cooling pad. Remember to wrap the bottom of your laptop to avoid water damage.
I strongly doubt the battery trick. That issue with batteries tend to be less valid these days as batteries become more smart and manage energy themself for self preservation. It is the same with smartphones. That's also the reason why certain constructors don't make removable batteries any more.
#14 - i believe the recommended way is to power it up first, before connecting the load - (the laptop). that way, the power brick has been already fully initialized. what was recommend has putting more stress to the power brick and possibly to the laptop. but of course, what's in the manual should be the authoritative.
@@the2323guy, thank you for trying to correct me. but i am referring to the power supply (adaptor) when i said power brick. that switching power supply has automatic high in-rush current and power factor corrector. so even without load, the power supply will not get damage. in fact, it is better you plug the brick first unconnected to the laptop, and once it is powered up is is ready at the right voltage level and when you plug it in, the laptop sees the actual voltage (say 19vdc). when you plug the brick in the outlet with the laptop connected, the laptop sees the voltage from zero volts initially up to the right level. i do not know if that has effect on the laptop, but i suspect it does stress the brick (but propeely designed one will not matter). and yeah, you're correct. power brick is not a computer.
I think some of the tips are for a laptop from the 1990`s, for example, you can leave the battery inside the laptop while the charger is connected because modern laptops have an option to turn off battery charging, and if you have an SSD, you can carry your laptop in hibernation or sleep mode because it won`t affect it at all, this maybe applies to HDD. And it makes no difference if you connect the power supply to the laptop after you plugged it in. The PC still needs some time to turn on after the welcome message ? Yeah, if your booting from a floppy disk :) Ever heard of SSD NVMe ? You should try it.
We keep all our laptops plugged in to the power source all the time. We don’t remove our batteries. All laptop batteries are still running strong after 5+ years!
The Sony Vaio has a battery care feature. It can be set to maintain a charge of 50% or 80% when plugged in so you don't have to remove the battery. Of course it would have to be reset to fully charge the battery if planning on taking it on the road. The battery in my 10 year old Vaio is original and still provides 4 to 6 hours of life.
Just to add on #5 in preventing heat on the laptop. Once a month while it is turned off, try to vacuum the air vents especially the exhaust part. I once had a laptop that had a burned out graphics processing chip all because of dust that accumulated on the exhaust port blocking the air that was supposedly cooling the heat sink on the chip.

Actually, modern laptops have voltage regulators that prevent battery damage. You don't have to remove your battery anymore.
And on modern laptops like the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 you can't even remove the battery

moving your computer around in sleep mode has actually become less harmful in recent years thanks to solid state drives becoming the norm.

You can transport your laptop in hibernation mode because the computer fully turns off. Data is stored in the disk but the its off. You can transport the laptop in sleep mode too, if you have an SSD.
Well, most of these points are valid for ancient tech.
Especially the battery-related ones. 0:54 8:36 7:14
Also with hibernation/sleep mode and fragmentation stuff. 1:26 5:59
Dude, did you do just copy the articles from ancient tech magazine or something?
Dam right and the hibernation one was like if somebody cracked a really bad joke

I have laptop i cant take Batteries out
Sleep mode is only harmful if your battery is bad or something software-wise is wrong. With everything working properly, if your laptop is sleeping and the battery drains to a certain level, the laptop is supposed to wake up, long enough to properly enter hibernation (or shut down if you disable hibernation).
i’m gonna have to take this with a grain of salt since it’s coming from bright side

I strongly doubt the battery trick. That issue with batteries tend to be less valid these days as batteries become more smart and manage energy themself for self preservation. It is the same with smartphones. That's also the reason why certain constructors don't make removable batteries any more.
I have a recoverable battery
#14 - i believe the recommended way is to power it up first, before connecting the load - (the laptop). that way, the power brick has been already fully initialized. what was recommend has putting more stress to the power brick and possibly to the laptop.
but of course, what's in the manual should be the authoritative.
The power brick is not a computer.

Just to add on #5 in preventing heat on the laptop. Once a month while it is turned off, try to vacuum the air vents especially the exhaust part.
