Lebanon took part in attacking Israel in 1948. If they wanted to, they could have stopped Hezbollah building up its army. They had DECADES to do so. The problem is that Lebanon has long been a weak state. Because of that, Hezbollah was able to become part and parcel of the government, which means that Iran, through its proxy Hezbollah, has a presence on the Israeli border from which it can strike at Israel. It's a similar situation to Hamas' role in Gaza. These are difficult issues to resolve, but they must be resolved for there to be peace. For its part, Israel must turn away from its extremist political leadership and elect leaders who are truly interested in reconciliation and peace. The Palestinians must do the same, and the Lebanese must develop into a truly sovereign country (which it is not now) that can adopt policies which will be in its own national security interest and in the interests of its citizens.

It's this infrastructure the IDF has been destroying for the past couple of days). Amanpour spent 5 minutes of her viewers time interviewing her Lebanese minister friend who complained that Israel didn't agree to a ceasefire. Why did she not ask him of how his country is held hostage by Iran through Hezbullah? That is the crux of the issue and the source of all the problems Lebanon is facing. Lots of Lebanese people are quite happy to see Nasrallah leave this world not to talk about Syrians. Amanpour should work on a her journalism skills instead of her tan.

We bought Lebanon a 100,000 strong Army and its whole kit. It costs a pretty penny. And it was on the condition that he'd use it to put his house in order (meaning control Hezbollah).
Well, dude, How about you use the help we already gave you? If you had control over your citizens this whole tragedy wouldn't be happening. You should've cleaned Lebanon of the scourge that is Hezbollah and should've assumed control over your country.
You've had the tools to fix the situation all along. But maybe you don't want to. Maybe Hezbollah's billions in drug trafficking money are too sweet, or perhaps it is the Iranian counterfeit cash financing your lifestyle.
I think you want Israel to give you a ceasefire in order to rebuild Hezbollah.

@@wesb3266 That's a quite simplistic view. Size is but one factor in conflict. The Lebanese Army has been significantly up-gunned and is packing a lot more actual warfighting gear than Hezbollah is. With Hezbollah reeling they could mop them up on the North while the Israelis have them looking South and take back control of the country.
      But they lack the will.
