You can say he always tries, but here he does much more than most on TV. Notice he doesn't address the six hours between when the IDF allowed Hamas to break through the most heavily guarded 23 mile wall in the world and when the IDF got in one of the 27 Apache helicopters and engaged Hamas (takes 10 minutes). Until Israel explains the standdown (they haven't) we must see 10/7 as an inside job to level Gaza and give the rebuilt real estate (on US taxpayer's dime) to Israelis.
Notice Jon Stewart says NOTHING of this obvious agenda.

Because Comedians and satirists are much better at observation of the daily world and its facts and absurdities. Since birth. They can state the obvious, which is something our traditional media and propaganda machines will never do . Think about Walter Cronkite, he stated the news, with zero opinion or voice inflection to convey judgement.
The only day he stepped off course for one moment and actually removed his eye glasses, was the moment he had to announce that JFK was dead .
And later on, Vietnam was the first war to air on TV.
Probably for the same reason Christiane Amanpour had to come to satire show to finally start making sense. Maybe Stewart produces some kind of pheromones that temporarily bring some sense into people in close proximity, cause I'm pretty sure she will turn back into her non-sensical self whenever we see her next time on CNN

I actually really love when we can skip past all the small talk and the jokes, and dive straight into a really important discussion of the critical issues. Thank you Christiane and Jon.

The voting rules of the Security Council needs to be changed by a vote of the General Assembly. No country should have a unilateral ability to veto a resolution in the Security Council. Not the US. Not Russia, Not China. No one.

Jordan has given the majority of Palestinians in Jordan citizenship. Im surprised Christaine denied that. Almost half of the Jordanian population is of Palestinian decent. The rest of the refugees have to continue to be so, so that their right in their country is not forgotten.

Humanity has already failed us 6 months on, well and truly failed. 40,000 murders in such a short space of time is just beyond tragic and unacceptable.
I would not be surprised if the real number was significantly higher than 40,000. The 33,000 number is over a month old, and I don't think that included people still missing under rubble, all this on top of the famine. I think the final death toll is going to be shocking to the world, and I try to avoid thinking about it for my own sanity.

Hearing the nuance of this discussion it hartens me that it is possible to actually talk about the underlying issues🎉 Jon Stewart we are constantly astounded at your ability to bring the whole issue to the people
Not really, because the underlying issues were not significantly touched on at all, and that's not a criticism in and of itself, but this kind of segment is not suited to a proper discussion. The reality is that there's a lot of context that's extremely important, for instance in talking about Palestinian refugees you really do need to know the history and how that history is conceptualised by different groups.
I'm not going to say "oh it's all so complex" because in many ways it's intensely simple, but without context people are not likely to recognise the nature of the situation. If you listened to this segment without being acquainted with the actual detail you would be reasonably likely to come away with a rather skewed perception. And of course, that's one reason why for so long US media has succeeded in sustaining a particular narrative, because its media has been consistent in recapitulating their internalised concept, without reference to the facts and because their audience, having not ever been educated on the facts are not able to discern how the issue is being framed and decontextualised.
The issue is that you can't have these discussions at all without real clarity about what you're talking about. I applaud Jon for speaking his mind on a topic where very few are doing so, but he does have a rather reductive perspective all-in-all.

First off John brought into crisp focus the fact that the Arab states around Israel have no interest in policing the Arab extremists that they've created. Many places like a run have totally changed in the last 40 years from an inclusive multicultural diverse system to a theocratic despotism. Looking not just at Israel but at all the neighbors there too is important.
Secondly looking truly deeply at BB netanyahu and his horrifically bad track record it is clear that nothing is going to be done in Israel until the people of Israel are liberated from him.
3rd and finally this is not going to be resolved unless the war crimes on both sides are addressed and prosecuted Yes Hamas needs to face justice but so do the Zionist movement inside of Israel and all of their crimes. A friend had just flown into Frankfurt from LAX, both airports carrying CNN. He was surprised at how much the protests were downplayed in the US.

The protests in the US were huge. I lived in Seattle at the time. Which had a much smaller population then than it does now. 50,000 people marched on I-5 and blocked traffic for hours. LA, NYC and DC were even bigger.

The next day, they broadcast Israelis reply. Which did not refute a single accusation but went on a atrocity complaint and mentioned Hamas 66 times. Clearly hard to defend the indefensible

I find it fascinating that this clip is getting so much praise when it still stops short of the key issue. All this talk about 'someone somehow some leaders somewhere somehow magically coming together' is kind of..... ridiculous? There is one single person who could stop this with one phone call and that person has signed three bills in the last 6 months approving the sending of 14 billion, 18 billion, and most recently an additional 10 billion dollars to Israel. With zero strings attached. To not bring this up but waffle about 'the brave individuals speaking out for peace' feels honestly insulting. In fact since October 7th Israelis have killed hundreds of people in the West Bank and just agreed to annex even more land from Palestine. They have no intention of allowing Palestinian sovereignty and no plan on giving back the lands they've stolen. Stop believing her. She lied. People died. John is absolutely brilliant ! He made even sleeperry and sleezy Amanpur to take a stand and tell the truth! And yet she was sooo uncomfortable that at the very end she needed to go back to where she feels much more comfortable - bashing Russia and "standing for Ukraine." So CNN of her! Well done John Stewart for not allowing her to Amanpour her way out this one and replace one topic with another

Excellent point!! When she said that I thought, no that's not really true, and they moved on, but your point is exactly right!
So very true.
I think her point was that we can sometimes be tricked into thinking that because something happened one way in the past that it will happen the same for something similar in the present.
