Not really, because the underlying issues were not significantly touched on at all, and that's not a criticism in and of itself, but this kind of segment is not suited to a proper discussion. After @pple put the screws to him, Jon realized that he needed complete editorial control. Comedy Central was desperate to get Jon back and he leveraged that to get the control he needed. That's my guess anyway.
@anthonytwohill9726 many people say the reason Jon left so abruptly last time was exactly because of his criticism of Israel. When he was coming back I honestly thought he'd be more reserved but I'm so glad he's stuck to his convictions.
The criticism should be of Netanyahu and his government. Tons of Israelis are protesting this war in the streets. The antisemitism I see here is astounding!

In a world too often troubled, it's individuals like you both who serve as guiding lights, leading us toward the restoration of our collective humanity.
The protests against the Iraq war were HUGE. I saw this here in Europe on CNN Int'l. A friend had just flown into Frankfurt from LAX, both airports carrying CNN. He was surprised at how much the protests were downplayed in the US. He told me "we don't get this information in the States".
The protests in the US were huge. I lived in Seattle at the time. Which had a much smaller population then than it does now. 50,000 people marched on I-5 and blocked traffic for hours. LA, NYC and DC were even bigger.
Saw the same thing in North America. None of the news channels showed the first day of the ICJ trial where South Africa laid out a very convincing argument showing genocidal intent together with picture, statements, bodies and other evidence. The next day, they broadcast Israelis reply. Which did not refute a single accusation but went on a atrocity complaint and mentioned Hamas 66 times. Clearly hard to defend the indefensible
Amanpour lied and said that Israelis changing their prime minister is enough. That's a lie and she knows it. Israelis overall celebrate the genocide and their soldiers many crimes in Gaza. In fact since October 7th Israelis have killed hundreds of people in the West Bank and just agreed to annex even more land from Palestine. They have no intention of allowing Palestinian sovereignty and no plan on giving back the lands they've stolen. Stop believing her. She lied. People died. Jon Stewart should of called her out at that moment.
For 40 years this amazing long time journalist have reported the international news, crisis, wars and politics with great professionalism and care and that is why people love and respect her a lot.

@@IDFpartyboi972 And my bad. I should say have been denying basic humanity for decades but I have to type fast to get out there faster than the Israel bots
Plenty of western press outlets have been saying this for months, and every other time this has happened. The problem is the west in general is dealing with an increasingly deranged far right movement that will defend Israel no matter what it does.
They showed, what kind of people they are, and not only on October 7. Hey, Mensch, Germans were people too - all way from 1933 to 1945. Something about “liberating” was written on Auschwitz gates too
Thank you Jon for your steadfast stance that towards atrocities the world cannot be neutral ... "The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything"―Albert Einstein
I am also appalled how the world watches innocent women and children get bombed, or starved to death, and they can go on about their daily business. Humanity perished many years ago, and we are the worst animal on the Earth as it is obvious.
I think her point was that we can sometimes be tricked into thinking that because something happened one way in the past that it will happen the same for something similar in the present.
I can’t even believe they are saying Isreal had moral high ground. What moral high ground?? To take someone else country??? The level of gaslighting is ridiculous
Did you know Palestine was never a country? Did you know Jews were always there but most of them were ethnically cleansed? You're being brainwashed on social media
If you think anything on cnn (or any other corporate media) comes even NEAR to “essential” on this issue then you’re missing 99% of the truth. I would suggest independent media like breaking points, the hill, the intercept, the gray zone.
I’m sure this has been said, thousands of times before, and definitely more eloquently, but why is it that our most insightful comedians and satirists always get to the heart of issues so easily? From Mark Twain to Mort Sahl to George Carlin to Robin Williams to Jon Stewart - brilliance.
Very much appreciate the opportunity to listen to intelligent, informed, moral individuals discuss things that actually matter, without all peripheral garbage that we get from most media.
John Stewart you are a national treasure. You highlight the issues so well without bias and always from a humanist perspective. Thank you for all that you do and for maintaining a level of balance in all of these important issues
But it's not an Israeli problem. The Israeli public is split on the atrocities and Netanyahu is taking advantage of that so as to avoid holding an election and ultimately ending up in prison for his many crimes. It's an AMERICAN problem! Because Biden could stop the genocide with a ten minute phone call if he wanted to.

Gaza and many Arab nations already brainwash youth to hate all none Arabs, that’s why Oct 7 and 9/11 happened in the first place, their leaders rule on hate and fear of non Muslims and non Arabs.
However, if you listen to interviews that are done with children, such as those done by Bisan in Gaza, they still want normal things, home, family, to be able to celebrate holidays.....They still want to grow up to be doctors, or engineers, or dancers. I have been paying attention to this issue and Palestinians' living in such a weird, locked down situation, yet still managing to make lives for themselves amidst the privation. Around half their population is under 18. If these kids can get healing and hope, then maybe this can be turned around. But it takes the "adults" to act as such, and sit down at the table to talk.

After @pple put the screws to him, Jon realized that he needed complete editorial control. Comedy Central was desperate to get Jon back and he leveraged that to get the control he needed. That's my guess anyway.
Even just ten years ago, Americans couldn't say that Israel was anything but splendid. Two words: Helen Thomas. Remember her?
yes! thanks to the young people in the streets and the voters
Thank you Jon! Always grateful for your perspective and you honest bravery. You speak for so many of us. Please know how important your voice is

Jon Stewart is a gift to this world...and OH MY, do I adore Christine Amanpour? I've been watching her for years. She is one of the BEST reporters around, her humanity, tough questions, thoughtful commentary is invaluable. What an amazing moment to see these two brilliant minds discuss and share their thoughts and knowledge?

Why does everyone think this all started Oct.7? How many times have Palestinians lived terrorism against them
They keep ignoring this since 1940s
You mean: how many times has Israel responded to aggression and terrorism by Palestinian Arabs
Then why discuss this issue now if it is happening since 2000 years. Let's talk about it after 2000 years.
That's the true and tried strategy of repeating lies relentlessly so the public eventually believes it!
Plus, Israel specifically does NOT have the right to defend itself under international law as an occupying force.
It's refreshing to watch a show that not only allows for important conversations to take place but also shed light on the truth.

The protests against the Iraq war were HUGE. I saw this here in Europe on CNN Int'l.
A friend had just flown into Frankfurt from LAX, both airports carrying CNN. He was surprised at how much the protests were downplayed in the US.
He told me "we don't get this information in the States".
Same thing here
CNN Arabic on TH-cam exposing IDF cri*mes but when you watch CNN international channel, nothing is the same
The protests in the US were huge. I lived in Seattle at the time. Which had a much smaller population then than it does now. 50,000 people marched on I-5 and blocked traffic for hours. LA, NYC and DC were even bigger.
@@missngfrombrooklynand nothing changed. Real democracy, the US.
NYC had 1million people protesting in the streets. It barely made the news.
Ms. Amanpour is a well rounded, well traveled, wise woman. Who always has my ear. We learn by listening often, I am listening.
She is a bit off at 10:37, when she implies that there has not been votes for a cease fire in the UN.

Plenty of western press outlets have been saying this for months, and every other time this has happened. The problem is the west in general is dealing with an increasingly deranged far right movement that will defend Israel no matter what it does.

Never, ever forget George Carlin. He still is one of the best to get to the heart of the issues.
It is the role of comedy from the jester in a kings court to now. The role of comedian is to call truth to power.
Very much appreciate the opportunity to listen to intelligent, informed, moral individuals discuss things that actually matter, without all peripheral garbage that we get from most media.

2:50 "No, it's an Israeli problem, they won't let us in!"
Really surprised that she had the guts to say it
But it's not an Israeli problem. The Israeli public is split on the atrocities and Netanyahu is taking advantage of that so as to avoid holding an election and ultimately ending up in prison for his many crimes. In just six months Israel has ensured several generations that will endeavour to pay them back.
this is what i keep coming back to. They are breeding those of which they hate
@@Erik-tu3rw Palestinians are Not Arabs. Just because they speak an Arab dialect does not make them Arab anymore than an American is English because they speak English.

Bibi propped up hammas for years and now he’s going to eliminate them. Sure.
Exactly, propped up, funded them, and repeatedly stated that "Jamas is Israel's greatest asset!" People are so selective in their attention and knowledge when they want to complain about Jamas.
He propped them up for this purpose. The idea behind propping up Hamas was to make people think that all Palestinians supported Hamas. If people believe that, then what is being done in Gaza can be justified (including the settler encroachment and Jared's Kushner's resort "idea"). Don't forget that he is fighting for political relevancy. There are many in his camp that feel the elimination of Hamas will allow him to win reelection and avoid prosecution.

Whenever I travel around the world, I ask the local people to explain what is going on in their countries because our media only spoon-feeds us what they want us to know.
I met an Israeli Gentleman a few years ago & when I asked him what was going on, he told me that every morning he wakes up, pours himself a cup of coffee, looks out his front window, & prays that his Son will come home alive from school that day. When he is done praying, he looks across his courtyard into his Palestinian neighbor's front window only to see him, doing the same thing.
