Hi Hannah! My name is Alex and I’m a 14 year old vegan. I haven’t eaten meat in 2 years and I’ve been fully vegan for one year. I live with only my mother and my cat and I’m the only one on a vegan/ plant based diet. My mother and I are both health freak hippies who enjoy watching what we eat and how we eat it, we both have been like that our entire lives. My mother and I eat vegan meals while we are home but when we go out to eat she gets whatever is on the menu (vegan or not). I never understood why she did this, even after watching all those Netflix documentaries and seeing the health improvements I’ve had. She came up to me one day and showed me the pros and cons of her eating meat and what her decision is. After that I realized that it is her choice wether she eats vegan or not and the sacrifices we both make for each other. We still have boundaries like how I’m not going to make her anything not vegan and how she won’t force me to eat anything I’m not willing too. We have another little agreement that the only non vegan item she can have in the fridge is cheese while I can keep my oil diffuser going all day. I realized it’s not my place to say wether someone should eat vegan or not, it’s my job to do my research and answer people’s questions about veganism and let them make their own decisions. This video reminded me of those things and how important it is to let our partners and parents make their own decisions while still setting up boundaries. Thank you for putting that message out there!! 💞

"I realized it’s not my place to say whether someone should eat vegan or not" (!!) It is your place to stand up for the rights of non-human sentient life on this planet if you understand and know of their suffering and the fact that they are enslaved, exploited, abused and are subject to violence resulting in their death by humans who choose to eat animals and animal products. So many vegans sitting on the fence! While we wait for non-vegans to make their own decisions about violence towards animals, these beings will continue to suffer in that ignorance. There is no excuse for violence towards any animal. This is about compassion and non-violence, not personal food preferences.

+Lalla R its not your place to force people to be vegan, which correct me if I'm wrong but it does sound like you're pushing her to do that. THIS is exactly why people hate vegans, its because often times people like you force others to be vegan and then try to redeem yourselves by saying 'were standing up for what's right'. Its not right to go that far, no matter how strong your beliefs are

What a beautiful relationship that you both care about each other enough to respect their views and lifestyles! Veganism should be about love and compassion.

My husband is also not. But he loves all these coconuty creamy curries and if you don't mind some coconut oil, mine loves bean/lentil "burgers" (I use spelt bread as buns, haha). What does yours like?

dawn for life so far his favorite vegan meals are a mushroom stroganoff recipe I got from my Forks Over Knives cook book and vegan corn chowder (with potatoes and jalapeños) and his current favorite is orange tofu with Asian style noodles but I'm still experimenting and finding new recipes to try!

YAS!!! I love the idea of compromise. Most times, I just give up. I often give up my fight and eat animal products. This just makes so much sense! My husband is a die-hard meat eater and totally picky. Glad to see I'm not alone. If he could eat fried chicken every day, he would. It's hard because a lot of vegan food is... well... too eclectic for him. I.E. Asian, Thai, Indian, etc.

thank you! i am a 1-month newbie to the plant-loving, vegan life and i have a bacon-burger-loving non-vegan partner... whom i love and adore exactly the way he is. he is very supportive of my new vegan eats and i want to respect his current dietary choices as well (heck it was only a month ago i was eating the same things as him). we bond over eating *super simple* and delicious meals together. i know he will love those loaded potatoes and that curry. please keep these videos coming! it serves as a friendly reminder to me that going vegan doesn't mean i have to give up quality time in the kitchen and dining room with my other half (and not feel like i have to attempt to "change him" to make it work). i really, really like your approach to making it all work with your husband. ❤

I love this video Hannah! It is so nice to see the practical side of the ins and outs of vegan and non vegan couples. My partner isn’t vegan either but we have a similar set up as you two! Compromise and communication are so important in any aspect of a relationship and you two are a perfect example of how to be supportive, loving and respectful of different life style choices, without sacrificing your own beliefs beyond what you are comfortable with! ✌🏼❤️ More videos like this please!!

Thanks Hannah. My husband and I operate exactly the same as you however, things got more complicated once we had children. Their questions are tricky to answer and not result in labeling one parent as "right" and the other "wrong." I want to empower my kids to make their own decisions but simultaneously encourage to recognize animal cruelty and not minimize or speak negatively about my husband to them. Does that make sense?

Love this! I just got married and my husband is not plant-based, but over the years he has become so supportive and loves how passionate I am. He is vegan at home with me, and sometimes eats vegan when we are trying new restaurants so that we can taste more things. To make life easier for the both of us, on the days that I work (not home until 730 or 8), he uses purple carrot to prepare us dinner. It's been so helpful and easy!

Yes yes yes!!!! Sharing what it's all about, love, compromise and GOOD food. Honestly, I am a non-vegan who finds myself eating vegetarian and vegan "on accident" (meaning I'm not thinking about trying to make my food vegan but it ends up being so) While I eat meat and animal products, I respect vegan living and its ideals. Some of my favorite youtubers are actually vegan! I think it is so important to recognize that vegans and non-vegans can live together in harmony. Respect and boundaries!!!!!!!!! I hope to see more acceptance and understanding like this between vegans and non-vegans. Thank you for this!

This is honestly hands down my favourite youtube video. I'm going through some stuff at the moment with trying to deal with the fact that my partner has no interest in a vegan lifestyle and i felt as though i was not being a good vegan for trying to let that slide and continue cooking animal products for him. I feel so much better about my situation just from seeing you do so well and being an incredible wife who is willing to compromise. Such an inspiration x

This video was great Hannah, thank you! My Husband went vegetarian a year ago and it has been such a wonderful boost to our dinners, I am always the cook and only serve vegan meals but I always try to include the things he loves while opting out of the things he doesnt care for. I also made the rule that if he wants eggs, cheese or dairy, its on him to make. It has been wonderful to watch him transition from eating tons of meat to becoming a vegetarian. I dont pressure him on veganism in any way, I just cook healthy, tasty meals which he always seems to enjoy! Gotta love our supportive men!! Lots of love to you and yours 💜💙

Love this video! My boyfriend is a meat-eater too but we cook vegan at home because he doesn't like to cook meat and so we can the same meal eat together (sometimes he'll make eggs for himself). He actually gets really excited about finding new vegan recipes to try and I usually let him take the lead so that I know he'll continue to be excited about what we eat and enjoy it. I can't wait to show him these recipes! Thanks :)

Hannah, thank you for this video. It was really helpful and refreshing to see that your husband has typical food preferences and you try your best to find compromises so that you both eat what you want and hope for. Other cooks in videos I see just make food and their significant other eats it all, but I know not all significant others love everything you love and what you make.

Thank you for this! I tried being a vegan for just a little over a month and one thing I missed was dinner with my husband. Like you guys, he disliked many things I liked lol. We have very different taste buds. I had started decreasing my meats substantially for 5months and cut out dairy all together before I fully tried vegan bc of videos like yours and Ellen. You guys were my biggest inspiration. Unfortunately I was too discouraged and stopped two weeks ago. I never got a good enough handle on it but I'm hoping to start again. These videos definitely encourages others like myself struggling to continue. I would love to make meals my husband would enjoy bc that makes me happy to see him enjoy a meal I prepared. So yes, would love to see more recipes, please ☺️

This was such a great video. I have been married for 23 years and just recently went vegan about a year ago. My husband jokes with friends that he is vegan Monday through Friday and he eats what he wants on the weekend. We have made agreements about not “shaming” each other. He knows the benefits of veganism and I believe one day he will go vegan but want it to be his choice

WOWOW im so happy someone made this video!!! my partner and i have been together for 4 years and ive been vegan for 2 of those years. we've set up similar boundaries and im happy to know he eats way more plant based than he did before because of my cooking. it's hard sometimes to see so many vegan couples on social media and makes me think- "why can't MY partner be vegan like them!" but i can't tell you how much it means to see someone i look up to, whose passionate about veganism, in a similar situation. especially since i want to approach veganism with love, compassion, forgiveness, and understanding. I know that my non plant based friends/loved ones don't need to get there all at once...sometimes just making sure you cook an amazing dinner together that doesn't harm anything is good enough

This was an awesome idea!! Living with a family that only eats non-vegan food and are starting to roll their eyes every time I mention how bad those things are for them, I often feel discouraged, frustrated and even though I don't really like to admit it, really angry and resentful towards them.. So lately I've been thinking a lot about that! Because I'm all for receiving and searching for advice and ideas of how to work around these things, last week I listened to your podcast about this topic and funny enough, this week you come up with this video! This universe has a great way of working 💫 so I'm taking it as a sign that that might be the way to go, to let go of this constant worry and anger! Thank you for the video and I'm excited for all the others to come xx 😊

My husband eats almost all the dinners I make as well. My daughter and I just became "mostly" plant-based (we will eat eggs and honey from a local farm by us). My 2 boys and husband are technically not, but I do ALL the cooking and buying of foods. LOL. My youngest was the happiest of the 3 of them because he's always hated meats. My older son has only noticed a couple of foods missing from the house, he will still eat burgers or chicken nuggets when we go out to eat (which isn't very often). My husband on the other hand....he wasn't excited about the switch, but he's growing into it and he does love the meals I create. We had so many restrictions already in our house (dairy, peanut, sunflower oil, canola and other vegetable oils, to name a few of the allergies). So, I eased him into it by cutting it down to 3 times a week I cooked meat. Then 2 times a week. Then once. And now, never. He is starting to notice how meat affects his health now, which is good...because the way he was eating before was so unhealthy. I love the inspiration of these meals though! Keep em coming please!

These recipes are amazing! One of my favorite dishes from a local restaurant that recently closed is thai curry! Both my boyfriend and I are vegan (I find myself very fortunate**) but I am more plant based, veggie filled, least processed type of girl while he loves all the meat alternatives, white pasta, etc, which I do love from time to time. But my cooking has definitely become mundane recently. So thank you for these!
** I say lucky because was a vegetarian from 12-22, went off until 24 when both him and I watched cowspiracy for my environmental issues class, the next morning I didn't wake him up to say goodbye and the first text I got from him whilst in class was "we have to go vegan". I truly think falling off of the veg wagon was a direct reflection of feeling lost those two years. Going vegan has been a major role in my self discovery!

Thank you, thank you!!! For this AWESOME video...YES I would ❤️ to see more like this! I have been Vegan for only 5 months and I will NEVER go back to eating meat, eggs or dairy. My struggle comes from being a single mom to a 14 year old boy who is a “meat & potatoes” lover. I have shared with him 1 video, but he refuses to watch another. I Just had to tell him he couldn’t mock me and my food choices anymore (which he see’s & hears his father do) and his dad just revs him up on “real men eat meat”....all that to say I will NOT give up encouraging him to eat more veggies, but am REALLY struggling to find meals that can satisfy the BOTH of us😊 LOVE the ideas!

Thank you so much for this video! My partner is not vegan/vegetarian either. And we are raising a vegan son. We don't keep meat of any kind in the house. Jacob decided on that. He is very respectful. He eats vegan/vegetarian when he is home. He stopped drinking milk right after we got together. He actually prefers cashew mylk. And he just recently stopped eating eggs. When he is out he eats vegetarian maybe half of the time. He has really come a long way. Most of the changes he has made on his own because he notices how much better he feels when he eats healthy vegan food.
Now if I can cut him off of energy drinks that would be amazing. I just got him started on matcha. He likes his matcha powder blended with pineapple. We have been doing that almost every morning.

Love this so much! I really liked the format of the video and the music choices. The red curry recipe definitely made my mouth water since I made the rookie mistake of watching recipe videos immediately before lunch time xx

YAY!! I love this video so much! My parents (who are serious meat eater) have been really accommodating to my relatively new vegan diet, focusing on more whole plant based foods, and I am so EXCITED to try some of these recipes soon to share with my parents!! Thank you Hannah for being an inspiration (you and Ellen are honestly my favs)

My partner wasn't vegan at all when we met, but I never pushed him and just educated him and talked about it. He did his own research and now is just as passionate about veganism as me! Maybe I just got lucky, but I feel any partner who is willing to care about their health, the environment, and read the science should seriously consider it.

I'm plant-based, my boyfriend is not, but he loves my veggie-heavy food. :D He's so tolerant and interested in vegan food even though he does go get non-vegetarian food sometimes. But we also love to cook tasty, spicy, filling veggie-heavy food together. My biggest advice would be to not push your partner into doing something he is not ready to do and don't make a disgusted face anytime he wants to order sth with meat and things like that. Show them the most positive side of it, how healthy and happy it can be and they will definitely be inspired. My boyfriend was in a very stressful exams phase until recently, so I was understanding and knew that that wasn't a good time for a major lifestyle change and there were more important things to do than what interesting new recpie to try out next.

LOVING your video and especially your attitude in this one. My husband is also not interested in being plant based, but when I make bomb vegan meals, he’ll eat them. This is inspiring me to have ALL home meals be vegan meals. :)

I receive so much crap from people because myself and my daughter are plant based. My husband and son are not. I went plant based with my pregnancy I couldn't stand the taste or smell of animals so I just stopped and for my health as well. But my husband isn't and has no interest in it. We were together 10 years before I changed my eating habits. I'm not going to leave my husband because we have different views. This is such a true relief. I don't cook it or buy it. But if he does then ok. I make two meals because they don't like the same veggies as I do. But you can pretty much make anything taste like chicken. Tofu or cauliflower wings. So usually no one complains at dinner. But if lunch he wants a steak and lobster. That's on his time. It's really hard to get alot of hate from people because you are on two different paths. I think you understand what I'm saying.

This was perfect Hannah! I have a non-vegan partner as well whom, like Eric, will eat vegan at home with me for the sake of having only vegan foods in the house (with the exception of doritos or whatever other junkier snacks he enjoys) and we only cook vegan as well! I've found he does enjoy the junkier vegan foods like Daiya mac n cheese, plant based burgers, etc. But since us being together and cooking vegan over the years, he's become a lot more open to trying things with more veggies and less mock-meats and substitutions that are healthier, which I prefer! Will definitely give some of these recipes a go and see if we get on. Thank you for sharing

Thank you so much for making this video! It really resonates with me as my boyfriend is not vegan and I am. He says he’ll be willing to eat “whatever I cook” as we move in together. I think yours and Eric’s system will work well for us in our future as I can’t see him ever going fully vegan. I’m slowly accepting that that’s okay!! So anyways, thank you!

Great video, Hannah, thank you! I feel sorry, because I know it's so much easier when two people have similar eating habits. But I want to believe that your husband will change with time. I was lucky, we watched Cowspiracy and Forks over Knifes together and we both made the decision overnight to become vegan. It took my son a bit longer though ...., but now he sends me pics of his vegan dishes from college and I'm so proud of him. So stay patient.

Not to be nuts but I so want that chili potato! I asked my best friend out on a dinner date and she said maybe I'll let you know. This place has some of the best vegan meals in the state of Maine and when I want to have some good mexican I go to bueno loco is hands down the best food ever! I worked there for a month 3 years ago and I learned so much.

Exact same thing I've got with my non vegan man, he eats a lot of vegan food thanks to me, he also prefers it and says he feels better and a lot more energy over all, but still eats out non vegan food. He always looks at the menu of a restaurant before we go, and likes to help me out by pointing out vegan options. We fell in love long before my vegan journey, and it has worked out for us, and I have the best partner in him. Life cant always be a vegan fairytale lol. If it is then yay!
