    Fantastic content for proper enthusiasts. Thanks so much for your zero gimmick presentation. It’s like Tyrell’s classic workshop and Harry’s Garage.

    Thank you so much for this excellent video! I've been a car guy my entire life and I've owned several Porsche's through the years, including a 911 twin turbo that aside from missing two cylinders, I turned into a power twin of the F40. That being said, I was twelve years old when these cars came out, but still to this day if anyone mentions the term "Super Car," the first thing that pops into my mind is the masterpiece of the Ferrari F40.

    The Greatest thing about this video is you can hear in your voice by the end, that the car had brought so much adrenaline to your system that you could hear the jitteriness in your words. And that is truly a beautiful thing.
    One of the best in depth car reviews on this dream of an automobile.
    Thank you good sir! You are truly a Gentleman!

    I remember the F40 at the NEC back in 88, I also watched an F40 and a F50 race at croft circuit, as they were both late entries they should of started at the back, the F40 did but the F50 was alowed to start in its qualifying position, 2nd, unfortunately the driver over braked at the first corner then gave it a boot full spinning and collecting another car, the race was restarted and we watched the F40 fly through the others like they were stood still.

    The exploded views of the F40 are fascinating. The first car with 'difficult' maintenance I came across was the early 1970s big-block Corvettes where you had to remove the the engine to get access to change the spark plugs in the rear-most cylinders. The F40 takes it to another level.
    Your explanation of how turbos work is very good. I've been interested in turbos since the BMW 2002 turbo in 1973 and the Saab 99 turbo in 1977 and I know how they work. I've been trying for 30 or more years to explain to people why you need a lower compression ratio with a turbo engine. I'm going to point people to this video if the question comes up again.
    I've been driving turbo engined cars since 1985. Nothing anywhere like the F40, but the same feeling of relentless power delivery through the revs is there in normal cars. Lots of lovely torque from low revs. I can't spin my wheels in 3rd, but I can in 2nd, and, if there's any dampness on the road, I have to be careful at half throttle.

    Very informative video on the F40, really enjoyed it. Now I know why the flames are only coming out of the two side exhaust pipes and not the middle one..

    • @saulespino2510
      @saulespino2510 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think he said it is the middle pipe that flames come out of because it is connected to the waste gate.

    • @randomsurfer3963
      @randomsurfer3963 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@saulespino2510 As far as I know the flames happen during overrun, unrelated to wastegate operation. It is just a case of overly rich mixture being burned in the exhaust instead of the engine. If it was due to the wastegate, there would be just one pop and that is it but the F40 crackles pops and flames for a long time during overrun and definitely only from the two external pipes. Just have a look at this video for confirmation th-cam.com/video/DyqN6OVuGko/w-d-xo.html

    This was definitely the first hyper car. Truly amazing for its time and to this day! Like the Porsche Carrera GT nothing around the time the F40 released was even close to this car. Almost dangerous even like a proper race car! God bless Enzo Ferrari. Event though I can't afford one :-(

  • @jononeil500
    @jononeil500 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    May I make a few corrections to what you had said regarding how a turbo works? When the hot air enters a turbo, it makes a turbine wheel spin (not a fan). This turbine wheel then turns a shaft which is connected to a compressor (not another fan). The compressor, as its name implies, compresses the air that is introduced into the cylinders.

    • @volkerkonig9376
      @volkerkonig9376 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richtig, and when air is compressed

    • @volkerkonig9376
      @volkerkonig9376 ปีที่แล้ว

      ... it will be heated. And hot air in the intake is contraproductive(ignition-timing, density). So you have to cool down the air via an intercooler behind the turbo in a good turbo- system.

    It's funny though that an F355 actually sounds so much better than the F40! Also the newer F8 and much cheaper F8 is so much faster albeit not as collectable !? Why buy an F40 unless you're speculating? does not seem to make sense really.
