    Great video Dr Novak, I have 4 Wakin Goldfish in a 40 gallon breeder tank and thanks to what I learned with you about anoxic filtration, the tank has never looked better or cleaner! Thank you so, so much for all that you do!!

      That is awesome! I love Wakin Goldfish too. Are they the real bright red and white ones? love them so much but hard to get good ones.

      @@anoxicfiltrationplenums Well I have a large calico, a large, completely white one with big blue/black eyes and then two younger, one black and orange and finally an all silver. Now ask their sex and I have no clue...;)

    Nice to hear about how your gold fish are doing - an underrated fish to keep, in my opinion. As long as they have a proper home, they live lots of years and display quite the personalities.

    Very adorable goldfish. Did not know duck weeds is great for them.
    Edit addition: Just a suggestion, you can plant one of the "bamboo" in one of your pots in your lanai. In that way you will have a good supply of the bamboo for the other aquariums.

      They were all free so I decided to see how they would grow in the aquarium since they do need a lot of water and they seem to be doing OK

    Great feeding tips. Goldfish seem to be making a comeback for the home aquarist. 😊

      I really hope so. We just have to learn how to take care of them correctly because not all the books out there in my opinion are right.

    💯% I keep goldfish and I believe duck weed is a must in their diet, I believe that is why most have swim bladder issues, as well as poor water quality because of their underestimated bioload. I’ve never had swim bladder issues with my Goldie’s but I now run your bcb baskets for them and always add plants and duckweed for them to graze, they are graziers which is why they eat so much, so smaller portions are better 😉👍🏼

      I agree, too many people over feed their fish with processed foods that just do not digest right for goldfish.

    Another excellent video. Very Very Helpful, I needed this. I have been grooming 3 baby 7 month old fancy goldfish and I am going to start measuring as you do. I felt like they were getting too much food. I feed cucumbers broccoli peas, rotating basis. I need to get plants as soon as the weather warms up. I have to order on line. Thank you-

    ThanQ......
    I give my wee nuggets shelled garden peas to clean out their system, sometimes with chopped garlic...
    I also buy pellets and soak them so they sink...🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Hello there ! Great feeding guide. But my query is the amount of fish food you feed one time a day or this is the amount you feed per feeding . If that so how many times do u feed your gold fish ?

  • @joannemcniff4210

    I don't have duck weed, but I am starting to feed raw garlic. It's supposed to be a twice as week regimen and is supposed to be good to help remove parasites. I also slice some orange very thin, anchor it to the side of the pond and let them eat it down to the rind.
    I have 4 fancy goldfish.

    nice video. How many times do you do water changes? I ask because it seems the tank is overstocked with the size of those goldies. I'm sure the plants help a bit with the water quality

    For 40 year's I've taken my earthworm's and put them into a container of sphagnum moss, preferably German. As they burrow through it they leave behind the dirt that's inside of them for a cleaner feed. Since my yard and mulch pile are all organic their is a lot of good nutrient's so I usually put some worm's directly in my tank.

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Earth worms are great to feed goldfish and Koi to re-inoculate them with bacteria that is badly needed for their intestinal tracks.

    for protein i use a tad of baby shrimp food they seem to process it better since its in powder form i soften up a little in water and havent had problems ever since i dont feed them alot neither a balanced diet is what seems to keep them going .i feel as though the more u keep a balanced diet the better the water quality what goes in must come out people!

    Hello Dr Novak.. I bought some duckweed for my goldfish. As I approached my pond my gold fish came over asking for food as usual. I put some duck weed into the pond. They all took some into their mouths then spat it all out again. They did this a few times over then just left the duck weed alone. They won't eat it at all. I thought how strange. They also will not eat worms. Do you think they won't eat it because they are still so young and small?

    Hello Dr. Novak I have a ? I purchased a Ranchu from Coast Gem, when I received it I think it has a swim bladder problem anyway can the anoxic filtration system help cure this problem? Thanks for your help

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  ปีที่แล้ว

      Try kingkoigoldfish.com they are cheaper than Coast Gem, and do seem to have a good quality of fish. If your fish seems to have swimbladder problems already, it may never cure itself. However, something you can try, is like feeding it softer foods like duck weed and live plants, and none of your processed foods.

    Dr. Novak can the bamboo live submerged ?

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I'm trying to find out with my experiment in the goldfish aquarium. So far they're alive but I don't know if they will live that long or if they will wind up drowning in the long run.

      @@anoxicfiltrationplenums And they absolutely love duckweed, which apparently has higher protein than soy and better for their digestion.

    Seriously have you given much thought to your statement that a goldfish has a stomach the size of its eye. Have you ever cut a wild fish open ?

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums

      Maybe you've done it over 1000+ times. Remember I say this to help people to stop them from overfeeding fancy goldfish.
