I've owned at least half a dozen Gibson electrics, including a 61 LP Custom and even an Epiphone SG Custom, and I have never seen a headstock break in person or even heard of one other than in TH-cam videos and anecdotes in print. I'm not saying they don't happen, just that one must be awfully stupid to let something like that happen. They don't just fall off. I'm not in the habit of dropping my guitars or even leaning them against furniture. I just don't understand how one is that sloppy in handling or storing their instruments. I really don't get it.
If I may offer some constructive criticism, you spent a long time yakety yakking about cleaning the joint and then when it came to the good part you zoomed right through it. Seems kinda backwards. Nice outcome tho.
That "thing" as you called it is an Extension and you actually didn't even need to use it for your application. Your socket is already long and there is nothing in the way for the need of the extension.

I've played mostly Gibsons for over 30 years... I've NEVER seen a broken headstock IRL.
Gibson is taking their ownership of Steinberger too seriously :)
Wish I’d seen this before fixing my Epi headstock. Reckon a little pain helps to learnin longer 😊
I'd love being a tech
Setting up a station would be cool to see :)
And final picture. ???
I just buy Harley Benton LP-style guitars. No problem! And sound great!
