For work I run a small shop cutting and finishing countertops. Formica is definitely still a thing and is one of several companies that manufacture the laminate. So while I love all of your content, this one is close to my heart.

I have to say, that guitar looks and sounds really cool actually hahah. Absolutely love it! It's fun to see people try out and experiment with different materials, you did an amazing job bringing it back alive again :-). Very meticulous and precise work you did
@@Notaluthier My most prized guitar is a soviet built one, while not homemade, it had a handful of home repairs done to it including a bridge made of scrap wood and a strip of fret wire. Absolutely inconvenient to play but I love it. Plus it was the first guitar I spent my own money on and wasn't a gift from my parents. I bought it at the age of 16 at the cost of about $225 including shipping from Ukraine to the US
Turned out with a nice project, cool little guitar. when you gave us a look at the inside, I immediately taught cigar box guitar. Also, cool ideas with the diy fret clamp and rasp for filing the edges of frets.
First time I've watched one of your videos and I loved everything about it. It had a bit of everything and it was all good. I loved the direction with the animal and scenery mini movies and creative shots of the restoration. The music was beautiful too. Thank you - subbed.
Well, you definitely got your 100 bucks back with that vintage rosewood board. Thanks for all the pro tips and tool ideas. Looks and sounds fantastic! Great vid production as always.
Very interesting home build ! I own a 1969 Dano "convertible" twin cutaway fake sound hole and 2 pickups, the top and back looks like the very same material your project guitar is covered in, I can't wait to see and hear it when your completed ! 👍
I did this to one of my bigsbys. I hate that tang for the screw on the right. There are many guitars where it won't work well because it needs room as you showed in the video. You just cut that tang off and drill a hole for a screw in the center of the spring area. Works well and looks cleaner.
hard day at the office with blackheads lol, love the hopeless restoration videos, its like man that guitar could have been a fine coffee table. but no you went and did the impossible, great stuff dude, that takes some skill.
Acoustically, it sounds a little like a resonator guitar. Clean amplification, it sounds fantastic! What a winner for only $22.50, and a $300+ setup! lol
My dad worked in cabinet shops when I was a kid and he collected piles of scraps. I always dreamt of making a guitar out of the laminate countertop materials. One draw was to be able to pick one of the cool color patterns that resembled marble swirls. The kind of thing people like to try to do with resin these days. But I imagined I could make a semi-decent acoustic guitar out of it. A project of re-topping a Jackson Rhoads didn’t quite work out, which was a shame because I actually used the same Formica that he used to build the bar top at the local Moose Lodge. Anyhow, I still have never made it quite far enough as to build an instrument out of it but it’s still on my bucket list.
OOO! I made a similar one of those fret presses with a harbor freight $3.99 similar clamp and a $10 brass 12" radius brass fret cawl. I just left the soft rubber on one side and filed a slot into the other and epoxied that ho in. Works great
Enjoying this one in between some nasty bands of Hurricane Milton blowing through here in Central FL, hoping the power doesn’t go out but figuring it’s just a matter of time. As always thanks for the chill vibes. I’d love to play one of these contraptions through one of them old Valco amps you have kicking around, like that suitcase one in particular.

Hi, looks like you have a pretty good knack for working on necks. If you were in my neck of the woods, I'd want you working on my necks. Even if it was neck and neck who I would choose, I would go with you just for your approach, and overall knowledge 😮😅
Not only can you shred, you can dice, chop and grate.
A+ comment. Bravo 👏

I appreciate you using it as a cutting board.
Bone dust is among the most damaging of things for the lungs. This is for those that are reading the comments. Don't inhale the dust.
Plus, it’s SPOOOOOOOKY!
That neck colour is commonly known as “le pudding d’hôpital” or “expired peptobismol”
Tres chic!

I wonder why this was abandoned. How the seller described it makes it seem quite tragic

I feel like I spent a week end at your place.
How relaxing
Beautiful images of the amazing flora and fauna 💕
That adjustable radius block is awesome!!!!
Ah, Formica. That wonder of the tonewoods. Turned out really well, great sounds.
Thanks for sharing the video ! It was informative, relaxing and we even got a few shots of your pup and the deer !
I actually almost bid on that listing, sure am happy to see you wound up with it. I wouldn't have been able to give it such a quality revival.
I missed it the first time around but luckily it came back around. I wanted to buy a MUCH SHITTIER homemade Soviet guitar but the listing went awol

Hey, thanks!
I like your style.
You put just the right amount of effort into the project.
Surprised by how good it sounds too.
Your attempts at comedy in the video were so-so, but I love your building skills and playing! Guitar turned out cool looking and sounding!
That thing is hilariously awesome. Great job
Thanks!
Wonderful recovery on and interesting situation !!!!

the description alone of the listing would be enough to pay whatever to get it. the man can sell anything.
Wow, amazing something like that has a great sound, thank you for sharing. I would call the paint color a dusty peach.

Yet another fab video! Lovely sounding guitar, and very nice playing too.
Formica never stopped a Danelectro from rockin.

Heck yeah man, that turned out to be a super rad guitar!
What a beautiful neck. Good choice on the knobs. Loved the Chinese strings. Kudos! Great video

This one came out amazing, really digging the channel.
Awesome rescue, love it !
Martin use it for their X-series of guitars and ukuleles :)
So calming and interesting to watch also i love the background music i'm guessing it's you noodling
Yes man your a brave soul to finish something someone else gave up on 😊
The Oversized knobs look like Oven knobs, Amazing Choice for the Kitchen Guitar😎
Fricken brilliant...well done
Lunch on the guitar tabletop... this was deciding factor for me. You're a F#@&ing genius.

lol sounds like a banjo acoustically
❤ from England
That is one choice piece of rosewood
I also like a steep angle for my fret end bevels! That radius sanding block is cool!
This is wonderful! It sounds really good
love the look of the guitar!
I absolutely love that guitar!!! But chrome knobs needed
That fretboard sanding tool is sick
Right!? Someone’s gonna steal this idea and make a mint.
Man, are you ferule!! ❤❤❤. Love the drilling lesson.
Brian May has the Red Special, and you have the Chopping Board Special!
I like the poor orphan thing!
Unplugged it has a sound similar to a banjo....but less bright. Neat little guitar!
I’d keep those knobs on there. The whole thing looks vintage like stale cigarette smoke. I love it.
Done and done
I like to run the drill in reverse for less chip out on the tuner holes
Hot tip!
I use an F style clamp for doing my frets
Shape looks 100% like upside down '90s Jim Lee Punisher skull
Should have gotten a toaster pickup for your kitchen counter guitar.(rimshot)
Oh dang! Didn’t even think of that when I was trying out the Dearmond “toaster” pickup

The sandwich arts?
The formica looks surprisingly good. I wouldn't go for it personally but it doesn't look half bad.
the case is 10/10 alone
It’s pretty nice! I almost lined it with some brown crushed velvet but the project took way longer than expected
big knobs. keep the big knobs
Saw this on Reddit awhile back before you bought it!
Oh neat! Yeah I missed it the first time it was on eBay and was miffed but I guess the previous buyer bailed and I got a second chance

It came with that case ? Nice
this is a Formica table. green is its color.
There are many other Formica tables out there like it, but this Formica table is mine (and is a guitar)
another valid use for Formica, IMO
Haven't seen a tropical fish cap in a while!
I bet that fretwire radius contraption would make a perfect curling device for your hair!
I use my jointer for that! Much faster!
Amazing work and nice save! Do YOU ship to Portland?
I ship anywhere…well…within reason. But yes Portland is very reasonable indeed. I even go there on the regs
Totally love some of your homemade tool ideas. Some of your ideas are exactly what I have made too.

@@Notaluthier 🙏 thank you! Hope your family makes it through okay as well. I’d love a little of your idyllic surroundings right about now!
One of a kind guitar
Entirely
Shoulda put the white knobs, used the bigsby
That one looks like a Lucha Libre mask.. 😁
You sometimes see those chonky knobs on locomotives.
It has a volute. 😎
Wow the Slobovian National anthem.a la Hendrix... not too many can play it.
Wonderful adventure.

Ooo don't let Ted hear you smack talk the fish glue 😮 😂😅
Hahaha, we had a chat about it after this and I promised him I’d give it another shot.
