  • On June 16th, 2011, the United Nations Human Rights Council endorsed the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, setting out a framework for State duties and business responsibilities in preventing and addressing adverse business-related human rights impacts. John Ruggie’s principles and their three pillars - ‘Protect, Respect and Remedy’ - have proven indispensable yet again, not least due to the pandemic, and countries are slowly starting to implement elements of the Guiding Principles in their national legislations, e.g. the recently adopted supply chain law (Lieferkettengesetz) in Germany.
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of ‘his’ Guiding Principles, John Ruggie will be interviewed by Pierre Thielbörger. Together with Robert McCorquodale and Anita Ramasastry they will discuss the past, present and future of the Guiding Principles.
The event is co-organized by the ESIL Interest Group on International Human Rights Law and the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV)’s Research Cluster on Human Rights and Humanitarian Protection and is supported by ESIL
