    It’s really nice seeing someone post a how to video without having to make it a commercial spot for the gear that’s being used. Great job!

    Hi Heath, Good to see you back in the boat with Chloe and Justin. Good job describing how to use the planer. Looks like you all had a fun day. It's cold up here, so we are done fishing until April. Looking forward to your videos. Thanks, Mickey

    Always rewarding when someone on your boat has their first catch. Do the fish you retry hand ever get tangled in the line you place in the water? Get tangled in the line you troll on the other side?
    Can you do a video on salt water care of the boat/motor and tackle at the end of the day? Salt really destroys gear. Thank you for the videos!

      Thanks Millie for watching and leaving some stellar feedback . I truly and sincerely appreciate it your support for the channel. Yes sometimes the fish does get tangled in its own leader or the other line but if you keep a level head and take your time things work out and it's not too much of a mess. But honestly that's a rare occasion. That's one of the reasons you keep your boat in slow forward is to try and avoid that sort of situation. Hope this helps. Thanks again for a good idea about care and maintenance of your boat gear and motor and how to keep them in good shape when going against a corrosive element like salt water. I'll definitely put that on my to-do list. Tight lines & take care ;)

    Just a tip I have learned from over the years. Looks like you are moving a bit fast for trolling.
    I noticed that I get far more strikes when I am just in gear and no faster. When I am around gas rigs, I watch others. The ones who are trolling at faster speeds aren't hooking up nearly as much.
    Just give it a shot for a couple of hours. I think you will be surprised.

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. The distance between the lure and the planer should be at least 100 feet.

    See all that twist in your leader is because of how long it is from the planer to the lure .. dont over do it 15-20 ft is enough it also gives your lure a move vibrant action

    Is there a reason why don't you use the yo-yo to reel in the line once the planner is in the boat?a 100 ft of loose monoph. trailing behind the boat...or inside the cockpit...

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't want to use the yoyo to wind in the line. If the fish runs you'll lose it. Always let the excess line mKe a giant loop trailing behind the boat as you are handlining it in.

    You ever run two planers? If so what numbers and how far back on each?

  • @miketexas4549
    @miketexas4549 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you run a planer that dives straight off your mainline, does that eventually wear out your drag strength in your reel? Thanks Captain!

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. So, the drag is determined by the pressure put against an interior drag plate (washer) made out of teflon. This part is made to wear down over time and will need to be replaced. Putting constant pressure on it, however, just to tighten the drag for applications such as planer trolling doesn't create wear on the part. What creates wear, is heat created by the plate spinning in reverse when a fish makes a run and pulls out line. The constant occurrence of the plate heating and cooling is what will wear down it's ability to create a tight seal against the spool, which is what is known as drag. So, in short, no, tightening your drag doesn't wear it out, catching big fish is what wears it out. My Internationals are classics from the 1980's and I've never replaced the drag plate, which is a great showcase of how reliable Penn parts are. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your support of the channel. I truly appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)
