    Can you use mono Or f-carbon leader
    Which will produce more hook ups of the two

      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For trolling I use mono... Fluorocarbon produces the same when your on the move

    If I am in the gulf along the beach trolling for king fish and mackerel with a planner how big of a leader should I use if I am using a drone spoon.
    I would be in 20 to 30 feet of water

    What size planner is that ? And size rod action and reel size ?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a million for watching and asking some great questions. The planer is a size #6 from Old Salty. The rod is a 7 foot Chaos Rod in the 50 - 80 lb class with medium action. The reel is a classic Penn International 30 (from the 1980's), spooled with 30 lb test mono & a 300 yard top shot of 80 lb braid. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your support of the channel. Tight lines & take care ;)

    Hi sir how are you how can i use planer ? I mean its length from spon to planer and then from palner to boat? And the speed for troling?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a million for watching and asking some great questions. Typically you want 100 ft of liter or shot cord in between your spoon and your planer. Then you want to let out your main line about 100 to 150 ft. You're trolling speed will be between 6 and 8 knots. There's a link to a video where I show you how to do this:
      th-cam.com/video/senW-MGp7nQ/w-d-xo.html
      Hope this helps. Tight lines ;)

    Can the spoons be trolled faster than 8 knots? Intend to use wahoo style sinkers instead of planners..

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. Honestly, I never thought about. I would say it's worth a try. But, I couldn't give any answer o how it's act at higher speeds. Would be interesting to find out. Sorry, I couldn't be more help on this one. Thanks again for your support of the channel. I truly appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

    Sir how do you target kings in winter season when they are found deep around 18-20+ meters?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and asking a great question. I always target kings down deep. I use a #6 planer which dives down and then I typically use a seawitch trailed by a trolling skirt and that is tipped with a bonito strip. Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care :)

    I was looking at the reel international 30 and the 50 is $50 more so would it be overkill for planer? Thanks

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely not. I would do the 50... you'll just have to beef up your rod a little bit for... you can do so much more than planer trolling with a 50 however. just check it out in person before you buy it... It's a beast of a reel, but well worth every penny. Keep me posted. Congrats. Tight lines & take care :)

    You said 7-8 kt but for sailing boat it is to fast. You think 5-4 the lure will work?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and asking a great question. I'm sure you'll be fine pulling it behind a sailboat at 4-5 knots. Honestly, a little faster is better, but they definitely work at slower speeds to.... just make sure you see some bobbing action on the tip of your rod, that's means it's spinning and trolling correctly. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your support for the channel. Tight lines & take care ;))

    Hi Heath, great video on the versatility of the planer. I like the orange spool you have for the leader. It really makes it handy for your leader management. Do you have specific trolling speeds for the different lures, or does it depend on the target species ? Great information and keep up the great videos. Thanks, Mickey

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mickey. Thanks for watching. I love my orange yoyo... It's a necessity when you have a 100 foot leader. When it comes to speed... It really depends on species and fresh real bait vs artificial lures... I like to boogie down and go fast and make the fish chase me. Hope all is well with you and the family... Take care :)

    Ever use 7 strand wire? Like Surfstrand? Instead of the single wire and haywire twist. Use the 7 strand and a swivel? Great video Heath! You need to come down to Key Largo and do some fishing.

      Thanks for watching and asking a great question... If you're referring to cable. Yes I do use it, but only on my high speed trolling wahoo lures... I don't use the pre-rigged coated cable you can buy from places like walmart or bait shops... Hope that answers your question. It's always a pleasure to hear from and yes I itching to head south and do some slaying... Hopefully not to long from now the COVID mania will settle down and I'll head that way. Tight lines & take care :)

    • @ChasingDreamsLivingLife

      South Florida Saltwater Fishing Awesome ..... yeah not cable. I’m referring to 1x7 Surfstrand Made by AFW. I use it for King fish stinger rigs and to some of my trolling plugs. Just curious your thoughts on it and if you ever used it? You can crimp it or tie it in knots.

    Hello great video
    Wanted to know how do you use the yoyo for planer

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. When planer trolling, my leader is 100 feet long. That is in between the planer and the lure. I use the yoyo to hand wind on the leader for storage, and for ease of use when letting the line out. They do sell quick release planers, that enable you to reel up your leader, but, personally I like this way. I love the human vs. fish aspect of hand lining in the fish once I hit the planer. Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care ;))
