the fallout lore includes the fact that the world has basically run out of patroleum. I always assumed that's why the AR had wood furniture. Limited resources.

There's plenty of other metal works and gun munfuctaring going on (i.e. the Gun Runners), I think the point is that the Service Rifle is made by the NCR, who's infamously stretched thin and probably trying to crank out the cheapest AR possible hence the wood and stamped metal
IIRC there's even a terminal entry or something like that referencing the fact they found old pre war ARs and replaced the polymer etc. with the wood parts.

They sell you more COOLANT for the nuclear reactor in your car.
You really, really don't want to run out of "gas" in Fallout. (Fallout 3+, anyway. I think there was a gasoline car in the old Fallouts?)

Jonathans recoil comment about tarkov is correct. It has pretty much been confirmed that the way recoil has been modelled in tarkov is as if you were holding a pistol. This wasn't all that noticeable when the recoil was relatively low (and imo more realistic) in the past but as an easy balancing solution developers have slowly increased recoil over the years to combat 0 recoil laser meta builds. This in turn caused stock and lightly modified guns to have this over the top recoil with almost unusable ironsights. Luckily a recoil rework was promised in the roadmap this year so hopefully this will be fixed.

Something to point out, Fallout does not take place in an alternate 1950s, it takes place in an alternate 2200-2300s post apocalyptic world, where the apocalypse happened in 2077. The 1950s stylings is because various modern, efficient technology, such as the micro chip and transistor, never got invented, which meant 1950s styled stuff never stopped being in style. The wood furniture on the service rifle is, apparently, because the Service rifle is a post apocalypse built rifle built for the NCR, and polymer is near impossible to come by in the wasteland, and is not to be wasted on trivial stuff like handguards.
That's how I understand it anyway.

The CS:GO M4A1-S is clearly using a C7 style upper, which were developed for the Canadian military's C7 rifle. Those were common before the M4 adoption and were never part of the M4 series except in very early models. Black Hawk Down era forces used rifles with C7 uppers. The correct Colt catalog number for what they would call the M4A1-S is the Colt 723.

The AR-16 suffers from a bit of that late 2000's 'greeble' designs and left-hand-eject which opted for style over realism. However there are a few real world parts we can identify from it: The Taiwan production M16 (T91) has a similar foreend design, but the front sight looks like something one would see on a Sig550. It has a Milkor MGL red dot sight, a carry handle borrowed from a FN Minimi (M249) (the Colt LMG variant had a carry handle but not in that style), and lastly the receiver resembles the Rock River Arms EOP (Elevated Optics Platform).

It would also be fun to see his reaction to stuff like reverse recoil, bouncy bullets and anti-gravity. You can also place stuff in front of the barrel and the shot travels through the object, somehow. Later game also gets interesting when you start to mount stuff like rocket engines to your gun. One cap have a chance to 50% refill energy on empty and another cap pulls half of it's energy from the other gun.

Having played A LOT of destiny 2, it very much does differ from the real life gun but i think it's because there's a standard reload animation for auto rifles (that class of weapon in the game) and that reload doesn't follow the irl way that gun would be cocked. Some guns have unique reload animations (mostly exotics) but since the khvostov is The Starter Gun (literally the first one you get) they didn't give it unique animations. It's coming back with an exotic version soon so maybe they'll fix it there which would be cool, who knows.

I believe a CS2 video is warranted actually, not only for the M4(s) tho those have been improved, specially the M4A1-S. Sounds have been changed as well, might be something else worth checking out.

Glad to see Black finally get some love here. That game was awesome when it came out on the Xbox/PS2 back in the day. The only thing it lacked was multiplayer. One thing that gets me though is that you didn't point out that on every single one of the iron sights, the night/NBC large aperture is being used and not the narrow day aperture it should be on the narrow one for almost all usage, and only flipped to the large aperture for night time or when firing with your Pro-mask on.

For future breakdowns like this, the year of release should be included in the card for each episode given how much JF mentions the age of the game within his breakdowns. For a part 2 of the same subject, I'd like to see SWAT4 and Homefront 2 included, since have officially licensed (!) examples.
55th week asking for Bullet Girls Phantasia episode, 31st week of asking for loadout on games (not) keeping track of round in chamber.

Destiny 2 is kinda infamous for guns that just cannot work without shrugging and going "Space magic" I'd love to see Jonathan react to the Conspirator scout rifle.

I have to say, much as I loved this whole video, I spent about five minutes on the first CS:GO entry pausing it to compare the S10 gas mask the operator is wearing to the one on my wall. Pretty accurate, overall I was impressed - the embossed '2' (denoting the mask size) is on the wrong cheek, and a tad higher than on mine, but I can't discount the possibility that this was altered throughout the production run, as mine is from 1991. The other details all look pretty solid, including the presence of the 'ridge' running around the entire facepiece in front of the straps, which isn't present on the FM12, the S10's successor. I realize that quite possibly no one else in this comments section cares in the slightest, but I thought I'd note my observations regardless.

13:50 I know in my use case I down load my duty Pmags a couple rounds because I cant store them with the dust covers on them. The dust cover pushes the rounds down which alleviates the pressure on the feed lips, keeping stored fully loaded without the covers on can cause stress cracks on the lips.

For anyone wanting more information on the controversy of the M16 in the early years of Vietnam, I would recommend the channel "Small Arms Solutions":
th-cam.com/video/NYar4Zf8jH8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=SmallArmsSolutions "What happened with the M16 in Vietnam?"
He also has other videos comparing it to the AK platform, one about Stoner and the M16, and another about the XM16E1.
An insanely good firearms channel that deserves more views.
