I have watched several videos of the Pittsburgh offense. It is not the play calling. This QB is not seeing his mismatches. On that last play at 9:43 all he had to do was look at the RB and then throw that left seam on that inside WR. He had that dude on the seam and on a cross if the WR and he had seen it. It is there pre snap. I'd say the QB is the problem because there are guys open on all of these plays. He is just throwing to the wrong one.
You have no idea what you’re looking at. It’s a designed pass to the RB, there is no other read. It’s a clear out. That’s why the defense jumped it, they’ve seen Pitt run it 100 times. You can look back at Ben doing the same thing and it’s not because he couldn’t read the defense.
@lRosettaStonedl I know it's designed. He has to be able to "un" design it pre snap when he sees no Safety in the middle of the field and a 1 on 1 with a slot WR that not only has the inside position on a seam route or a crossing route.
@@TheMcfreeze he ran a post not a seam but yeah your right that was there. It wouldn’t be an easy throw with a free rusher and Connor Heyward being your slot WR in this situation. The best throw would have been to Pat on right side. It’s the same side the free rusher is coming and it’s 1 on 1. I dont like the Hitch route but it was his best option. Muth is only allowed to run Hitch’s and seams I dont understand lol.
@ 7:01 you’re wanting Pickett to lead Warren up the field, apparently oblivious to the fact that the tackle has gotten pushed into that throwing window. 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Lol, yep. Careful, you're about to be labeled an 'apologist.' I can't take a channel seriously when they call people names for disagreeing with them. Go watch JT O'Sullivan's "The QB School" for a good analysis from an actual exNFL player who knows what they're talking about instead of watching a casual fan with an internet connection.
@@Boblib1970yep your apologist if you don’t want to blame KP for every single bad play this guy breaks down and the offense has. In these breakdown WRs never run wrong routes (they do) they dont drift or move from spots (they do). And ball has to be perfectly placed or he is just inaccurate. Like you said JT points this stuff out and will blame the QB when deserved. This is just bias tape watching and not understanding what he’s watching
As an Offensive Coordinator, you can't be in shot gun on 3rd and 1 and the defense is showing blitz and you run a read option. Get under center and pound the ball with a run or QB Sneak. Very Simple! Or utilize the Play Action Pass, especially now that the Running game has picked up the last 3 weeks. And you hit Washington over the middle. Or a CAIII down the seam. Basic!!! This is the issue with the OC and yes Kenny has to read the field better and stand in the pocket and deliver the ball. But the OL has to consistently give him a cleaner pocket. The Top Priority is a Center. This is where the pressure is consistently coming from, up the middle in the Center position. Which is causing Kenny to bail and have happy feet. The OL has 2 plays where there's pressure up the middle then the 3rd play a clean pocket it's already too late Kenny isn't comfortable mentally. Get Consistent Pass protection at the Center position then Kenny will see the Field better and make the plays he needs to. The Reason Canada was fired. Steelers get the ball at the Browns 40 with 3 minutes left and they throw 3 consecutive pass plays and lose 10 yards to get out of field goal range and burn 14 seconds off the clock with Warren and Najee not touching the ball. Now, the Bengals have the 30th rank run defense in the NFL. Steelers will rush for 250 yards this game and Pickett throws for 200 with 3 TD's to Muth, Pickens and Washington!
I agree with your analysis, however Pickett doesn’t have time for the play down field to develop. He is under constant pressure from unblocked defenders. He only has time to hit his check down receiver. If you watch the plays the receivers are only five yards off the line of scrimmage before Pickett has to release the ball or take a sack.
7:30 I remember Kenny's first primetime game with Troy Aikman commentating and he was questioning if Kenny's back shoulder balls were on purpose. You probably get people defending him on those because there's been slander from the beginning when he throws back shoulders. I'm not sure what specific balls you're referring to but people really do see a nice back shoulder and say it was underthrown bc they don't understand what they're seeing
Thank you for breaking down the Steelers offensive screen pass woes of just 1 game. Would you like a job as offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers? Please send this video to Mr. Art Rooney and cc Mike Tomlin
Thanks for the breakdown. I believe what we are seeing is 3 years of poor teaching from the OC which was Canada. Steelers made a huge mistake during a rebuild. When they got rid of Randy, they should have hired a quality experienced NFL coordinator. You can't have the blind leading the blind by having someone unproven like Canada get promoted up to such a important role when you have a bunch of young new talent coming in. Think about what Najee was coming from Alabama, to what he is now. He's regressing because the detailed NFL coaching he was supposed to get has been void for 3 years. Jaylen Warren is somewhat still fresh from college after 1 year in the NFL. His habits are still good and not damaged from poor coaching. The same with Muth. These guys are playing like crap because they have not been coached up properly over the last 2-3 years and it is showing. Wasted time. I knew this when they first announced Canada... why didn't they? To make up for lost time, the OC that they hire will have to be a very strict and strong minded person to break bad habits. I don't know who that should be, but I keep hearing Byron Leftwich's name thrown around.... I wouldn't hire him for OC. Byron or Big Ben for QB Coach would be good but not for OC. I also keep hearing the media bring up all of these QB coaches from around the league. That would be another bad mistake and waste of time as well. They are not proven. We don't have time for another coach to learn how to be an OC on the job. We need a strong proven OC.
You are right about an experienced , strong minded OC, but do you think M Tomlin is willing to bring in somebody who knows more than himself? It took Tod Haley to change Big Ben from an extend the play QB , into what he should have been from the start, a real NFL QB. K. picket does need a truly experienced X nfl QB to help him regain what he showed last year. What has the current QB coach done with Kenny? Now M Tomlin has promoted him, he hasn’t done a good job teaching K Picket. The whole coaching staff and owners have more to blame along with Canada. When you are satisfied with mediocre that is what you get.
@@MaryDumbovich I couldn't agree with you more. I also feel like the whole Offensive staff should be replace. I wouldn't mind if a good OC came in with his own people. As for Tomlin, if it helps him get a second Super Bowl win under his belt, I can't see the guy being insecure with a really good OC coming in. I think it would be good for Tomlin so that he can concentrate more on the team overall and the defense.
Brodrick and Warren are like the two positive things about the offense right now. Really excited to see if they can flourish not being shackled by Canada
A nice tweak would be faking the screen to open up downfield. Backs do a terrible job of faking the handoff on play action. They have to sell that fake to bring the LBs up. This is why the middle of the field is so hard for KP hit. He has to sell the fake also
@ 9:13 you’re wrong. That IS A DESIGNED PASS TO THE RB! That’s a clear out, immediately get the ball out. You can pull up 2019 film and see Ben making the same throw. This is a called pass. It’s a terrible play. Or do you think Ben didn’t know how to read a defense?
I would say that it's a terrible play when you're not stretching the field. Those DBs can be 99.9% sure their assignments aren't going to be targeted beyond 5 yards and can just sit and wait.
Am I the only Steelers fan that is fed up with Tomlin. After this it’s what 7 years since a playoff appearance? 7 is going to turn into 10 if Tomlin doesn’t go. Blah blah blah winning record. Just above .500 isn’t a playoff contender. He is ruining this team. Slowly a slow death.
Great breakdown. The one thing I noticed on every one of these plays is 8 is under pressure almost immediately. The last play you said if 8 waits he has open receivers but did you notice the db blitzing his blind side? If he waits he gets sacked. Our linemen are great at run blocking but pass blocking is a different story. Mason Cole needs replaced. I would make that a priority in the off season. You need to have a quality center. It’s a requirement for a good Steelers offense.
If you can, do a contrast/compare of pitching the ball to the RB's instead of handing it off right at the hole. The game Canada came to the sideline they pitched it to both backs and had success between the tackles. The backs found A HOLE. Maybe it wasn't THE HOLE but they had time to read the line play. I thought, ("mistake"), the running game took a turn, for the better. Those plays were basically shelved, and now Canada's gone. Will the pitch to RB's be included by the new guys? If the Steelers can't run pitches to utilize RB talent then it is time for BIG changes... Thanks again!
Watching your fold breakdown I think they are basically practicing on the game field which explains the slow starts. There must be something wrong with the way they are practicing. They are not prepared in offense for the opposing team. They are hoping by the fourth quarter they have figured something out and on the games where this works they do.
This is the kind of stuff I pray we don’t see any more now that canada is gone. Because its not just screen passes where these issues have popped up. I dont think canada EVER made adjustments in game, he just stuck with the gameplan to the bitter end. If hes not running failing screens 5x per game, he’s running failing mirrored hank curl flat concepts 4x, or shallow cross 4x, or all hitches 4x, the repetition of bad concepts and designs has to stop. I understand why screens would be a major part of the gameplan versus the browns pass rush but mix it up, throw a WR screen out of 5 wide, if youre gonna do a play action screen, make it a fly screen to a WR with broderick out in space, alot of canada’s ideas and gameplans were good on paper but lacked so much attention to detail, and the few times they did work he just repeated them instead of building wrinkles off of the success. If you’re going to run the same concept 4+ times per game, it better be successful atleast the first 3 times. I still have faith that kenny can be a solid QB in a better scheme, because i dont see that many opportunities being created for him right now. Yes, he misses one or two guys a game that are wide open. But then you watch DTR and every throw was schemed open for him to get the ball out fast and keep the offense on schedule. Kenny is not getting very much help like that and its frustrating to see him take so much heat. He went 15-28 for 106 in the browns game, but of those ~13 incompletions like 8 were shit screens and hank concepts, scat concepts, ect. Everybody wants to see a 300 yard performance, the playcalls have to be right for that. There aint a QB in the league whos throwing for 300 and 3 TDs running hank, scat, hitches, and bad screens 4x all game. If kenny hits the 2 deep crossers, the statline wouldve been 17-28 for about ~150 and 1 TD. People would still be saying his numbers arent good enough. Kenny pickett is definitely not patrick mahomes or CJ stroud, but its an absolute travesty that the steelers scheme and playcalling is making him look like one of the worst QBs of all time, because hes not
Something I noticed within Canada’s offense was that second year Pickett is still reading off his playbook on his wrist. Shouldn’t he have the entire offense down packed by now?????? What are chances Pickett was miscommunicating the calls? Something else I thought about it. This is not to justify Canada just something I noticed.
as a lineman(center) when you have a guy like myles garrett on the edge you’re entire blocking scheme changes now im not saying that’s case here but i can see why najee was automatically helping dan moore(who sucks)
From the breakdowns ive watched..theres a lot of bad route combos..missed blocks bad throws and poor communication..pickett is 1/4 the problem canada 1/4at least..well see it things get better
This is all kinds of massive dumb!! This Sunday the bungal D is ranked 31'st aginst the run. Next week the Cards are 26'th against the run. We win if both Najee & Warren get 20 touches or more. Keep the focus off Kenny and let him have some quality practices before he is tasked with with some critical third & med or long conversions.
Some fans are very funny. They fully expect pickett and the offense to come out throw for 300 with 3 tds and score 30 lol. Not how this is gonna work lol
They have an excellent 1-2 punch with their current half backs. The run will set up play action. Which will open up the pass and screen plays. All which will take the pressure off of Kenny. Which should be the offensive focus when you have a young and highly pressured QB. He hasn’t had time to develop and he hasn’t had an offensive coordinator that would design an offense around its abilities. Forcing bad plays isn’t going to improve. You have to game plan for what you have and what you’re facing. Go back to basics. The o line is blocking terrible. People are missing their blocks on the edges and allowing so much pressure on KP he doesn’t have time to make a read half the time. Then when he does have time he is so confused because he isn’t getting driven to the turf that he doesn’t know what to do with the ball. He doesn’t know how to read progressing because he isn’t being coached to read progression. That much is obvious.
The season is toast unfortunately. They will never overcome this ineptitude within the current offensive system. Sullivan was a failed OC and Faulkner has no experience running an NFL offense. They need a solid hire to hit the ground running next year and revamp the whole O top to bottom.
You say if he holds on longer as two people are in the backfield already lol. SPLIT WARREN 75 TO 25 OVER NAJEE. THROW TO THE MIDDLE. A ROB IS SLOW, BUT HAS GREAT POSSESSION HANDS TOO.
Sorry boss, 9:35 he's going hot right away like he should. Garrett was coming unblocked. This was a hot read. Kp knows what he's doing mentally. Go back to the LA game. The td he missed to A Rob. The coverage d, the lbs were supposed to follow 83 in the middle and leave rob 1 on 1 with inside leverage and open. The lbs didn't follow 83 and went outside. It was a timing throw. He threw it low, the only place he could without an int. As he let it go, you could see his reaction. He knew he was relying on pre snap set up. Like what 92 did to Warner in the sb 99yd td. Absolutely he misses a couple 3 throws a game and a couple coverage reads. But this is mostly on coaching and scheme. He has one of the lowest int rates in the league and it has been stressed to him to not turn it over. Now that the play calling is different, we're going to see more yds, but possibly a couple of ints as well. It comes with the extra chances he's going to take now. This has also lead to put having the best turn over difference in the league.
Great analysis. Diontae was to the house open on that check down to Warren. One thing I mentioned with the Matt Canada firing, that hot seat is fully under Kenny Pickett now. If he rises up, we will know the problem.
It Kenny doesn't throw it go Warren right way in that last play, he gets blasted. There was a free runner on the backside. That tells me that was exactly how that play was designed. He knew that guy was free. He had no other play at that point. He couldn't hold on to it. Warren was his only option. That's bad design. That's why Canada is gone.
The Steelers don’t have hots built into play design. No idea why. Best option on this play is prob Muth …throwing towards side pressure is coming is typically best but he runs a hitch which is a terrible route for situation…. Another option is They also don’t have a safety back so you can hit slot post. It’s Connor Heyward though. Do you trust your 5’11 TE who runs a 4.8 to get open before Zadirus Smith blast you? I don’t. 3rd option is Warren. It’s just a poorly designed play.
Those are not pickett tendencies. That is designed and taught to him by Canada. Mitch did the same so did Ben the final season. That's what Canada's is telling them to read
@jon_deluxe o thats what I said too. While we all wanted Canada gone it came at an odd time. U don't have time to start fresh u gotta tweak what u have and work it in as u go
Look, theres other problems on that 3x1 fast motion swing besides whether its a designed screen or not. In all likelihood, kenny did exactly what canada’s offense was asking of him. I think its pretty misleading to say that kenny auto throws a checkdown any time the inside linebackers are walked down on the LOS, like its just a kenny thing. I’d bet the house that he’s doing exactly what the design is telling him to do. The reason I say this is because when you have a RB on a swing route and no bookend TE’s, you have by definition a 5 man protection scheme. If ILBs walk up on a 5 man protection like you mention, kenny is automatically hot from a protection standpoint. The question becomes who is the hot route, and based on the route design I’d be willing to bet its jaylen warren because the backside has a curl that would be really tough to hit with a DE coming untouched. The reason the play was such a failure is because the steelers have run the same exact play like 6 weeks in a row since atleast the rams game and instead of respecting their man coverage assignments, the defense sold out because I’m certain they studied the play all week. Notice it wasn’t the guy responsible for jaylen that made the play. The steelers have had huge success on that play in weeks past because the defenders should have their eyes on their man running downfield and jaylen should have been 1 on 1 with a safety trying to navigate traffic from depth. But because the steelers never showed any wrinkles on the play, as soon as the fast motion comes out the defense knew exactly where the ball was going. Bad scheme. Should be a full slide protection to the backside so kenny can throw into the pressure, fake the swing and throw deep to the post while drifting away from the free runner. Its this attention to details and failing to build on successful plays that made canada such a failure as a playcaller, and I have faith that if the steelers playcalling improves in that area, kenny will as well. Because i see him trying very hard to operate within structure and most of the time the structure is holding him back
Well let's clarify a few things. Like you said that last pass to Jaylen was not a scene. But also the pass you showed before that you called a screen. But it really wasn't. It was almost a completely sideways pass. When they call plays to throw sideways passes they don't work. You can't score touchdowns running sideways. They are almost always a wasted down and worse yet wasted drives. Then they usually end up having to punt the ball on 4th. Because they only target sideways passes, running, but not using Jaylen near enough. He should be starting. And they hardly ever throw down the field past 5 yards. Don't call sideways passes screens because they are not. Screens are at least 5 yards down the field and are used when the quarterback needs bailed out from a rusher. Jerome Bettis caught many passes up the field (not sideways passes) to bail Big Ben out many times to avoid the sack and it worked beautifully. Ever since the sideways pass was introduced into the NFL as a regular called play in the OC playbook (maybe 3-4 yrs ago) it has been a disaster for the Steelers. They usually lose 1-2 yards on it every time. When Big Ben started doing this at the end of his career the defenses were always ready for it and it never worked. Notice when they throw down the field they match down the field. But when they throw sideways they go nowhere but the bench as they have to punt it away.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Omar looks to draft a Center from Georgia because Mason Cole ain’t it. Both he and Dan More don’t play well against the elite D-Lines in the NFL.
Idk if you realize this, but he's throwing them into the ground on purpose. If he hits the rb both times, it could end very bad. If 22 doesn't catch it clean, the defender is right there. He's also protecting them from a big hit. He does this on others as well. I'm not saying he's on target all the time, but clearly he's doing these on purpose. I saw Rudolph do the same thing as well as Ben. Mitch would have tried to force it as well as young Ben.
I wasn't criticizing the throws to the ground. I was criticizing the rb for not getting in position and forcing the qb to ground it. The throw I criticized kenny on was the back shoulder (that really wasn't a back shoulder) screen play on 3rd down that if he throws it in front of warren it's going for big yards. Also the screen that wasn't a screen. But it wasn't the throw, it was the decision, timing and him straight looking at jaylen. If the play is designed that way then it should never be used again. Not even in a peewee football game
@@StateoftheSteelers 1) The back shoulder throw was a back shoulder throw because Broderick Jones was being pushed into the throwing lane that would've allowed the ball to be placed in front of Warren. Did you not see this, are you ignoring it, or am I an apologist? 2) On the non-screen, what was the better decision, how much longer should he have held the ball, and where else should he have looked given the fact that there was an unblocked rusher barreling down on him immediately after the snap? Did you not see the free rusher, are you ignoring it, or am I an apologist?
Absolutely correct ! And the sad thing about this is it didn't even have to take any last minute heroics by Kenny Pickett all he had to do was complete a few ordinary passes to a few simple routes run by receivers and a few screens and we would have won this game by a few touchdowns without even breaking a sweat. Ugh
Jaylen has been the better RB since he became a Steeler last season. Najee style of running doesn't match with the Steelers who are a young developing offense and the bugger problem with this situation is Tomlin ego is holding this success back because Tomlin doesn't want to admit Najee waz not a good pick for the Steelers and he is going to keep gett8ng Najee his touches even if it is at the worst time to take Jaylen off the field. Sorry I spent so much on just the RBs. I did lije your break down of the games and plays. U did a very good job. I do have to wonder what some of our fans are waching when they are watching the games. I have been saying since last seaon how much better Jaylen yet I get blasted by people so much saying im a hater no I'm a liver of Steeler football I dont care who is playing as long as thd player is actually helping the team win. I know what my eyes are seeing IDK. Very good breakdown.
The GM drafted Harris it's the OC job to make the players fit and be productive the head coach is to make sure the team functions as a whole unit if Harris was fumbling the ball then he could be bench him
Start off with the GM Kevin and Tomlin dealt with the draft and Tomlin has been a part of all the drafts since he has been a HC. The Rooneys respect people and they don't act like Jerry Jones getting into everybody's job and nit allowing them or trusting them to do the job their were hired for. As far Najee goes he dies not move the ball well enough the whole works can see he us nor a fur fie the Steelers. People who are actually real football fans can tell stuff like this and not take it as a slam to people and players they like and can't see the flaws and the truth. Tomlin has been the HC who is responsible for everything about the team but everybody dies have a expiration date which Tomlins time is past due. If Dan was alive he would be able to have this hard conversation and decision to part ways. Dan has this conversation with the greatest coach the Steelers ever has in Chuck Noll. None lof this is sighting anyone it is just reality. So if u want to believe what is going on that's your choice. But me as a trus long term Steelers fan through 3 coaches 1 great and 2 very good. I would like to see the Steelers back to the winning stable franchise they built in the 70s after 40 years of bring 1 of the worst teams. 18 years is a long time and a respected time. Enjoy the rest of the season
@@robertacampbell5382 long time Steelers fan also AFC North has the longest tenure coaches for a reason harbaugh was on the hot seat awhile back they traded claypool and im sure they see harris skillset the rooneys are a family organization and you dont turn your back duringa few hard times besides could be 2-7 everyone thinks Tomlin coaching for his record impossible since he's not suiting up on the field 😆
The point I was trying to make is the Rooneys are loyal and don't panic. Tomlin has been HC for 18 years last SB appearance over 10 years ago and last play off winter 6 or 7 years. But for almost 3 years now the team and for Kenny since he was drafted last seadon has been handcuff. We actually do not know how Kenny will be with a real OC instead of the worst OC in the NFL. Heck Peyton Manning started off horrible. I am not saying Kenny will be the next Manning just saying let's se what happens under a different OC. It's game time. Go Steelers show your will and win this game.
great video. Although you mention Pickett "apologists", this video to me shows the naysayers are also misguided. It is very apparent watching these breakdowns that the offensive line, especially Moore and Cole, are very bad and cannot block. The scheme are also bad, which is why Canada was fired. If the middle linebacker is causing an immediate check down, that is what coaches are SUPPOSED to pick up and this is an easy fix to get Pickett not to do this, but it has not been done. Except for the last play with the bad Pickett check down, this also showed to me that the receivers are NOT open. The pittsburgh fans keep saying Pickett is not seeing open receivers, but in breakdowns like this, I rarely see it. Yes, rarely he does, but so does every QB. Instead, I do not know enough if it is solely the schemes, but they are not open and Pickett is seeing guys at best that are covered where he would have to throw a 50/50 ball, which is also pretty terrible and leads to turnovers.
When you break down this film and you see that play that defensive back made around cole that's a great play. I know Cole isn't that good so it's not that great but it was a good play
Hey- on the last play where you want the QB to hang onto the ball, there is an unblocked edge rusher on the right side of the line that is on Pickett as he releases the ball. The design of that play and the blocking scheme doomed it from the start. The fact that the Steelers ran 5+ screens in this game is reason enough to drop the OC.
I think the reasoning is the line is so bad they felt they "had" to. One of the common ways to counteract a bad line or if a team is loading up a pass rush is the screen. But they were so badly executed they still failed.
💯 on that last " breakdown" if Pickett dosen't fire that ball immediately it was a sack even when the dude pauses it the receivers aren't even looking/ breaking.definitely seems a little biased.
@@zacward8806 Thank you. I am not saying Pickett is Malholmes yet or is a great QB, but there is a lot of failures with this offense and everyone calling for him to be benched are nuts.
For one its no real vet leadership on this team for example if it was Ben he would of be on Najee to get his head around faster, Kenny wont say nothing cause he young too... 2 kenny is not looking off receivers or where hes going ll, hes already predetermined and stares it down
Umm first of all. Why in the hell would you run any screens on Dan Moore's side he is the weakest link on the offensive line. I know that's not saying much considering how the offensive line is playing as a whole.
TBH I think Harris is overrated, if big changes are being done my call is he has to be realised as well, he consumes too much effort from the offensive line and that's not the way to play successfully
I see a lot of poor execution , and yes it's the players not performing their jobs but Canada was failing to correct their mistakes,, now to be fair the players knew Canada was a boob so they could have been ignoring his coaching but I doubt that was the case
This could be an analysis of our interior line and especially Cole . Just immediate pressure up the middle on almost every play . Cole is killing us all year He can’t pass block to save his life and is lost in space out there .
A lot of those problems were execution problems and some may be because Pickett doesn't audible he only has the option play, like when a guy who shows blitz coming up your A gap and you make no adjustments for that and get ran out of the hole, which again is in Canada
Why not just go knocc somebody out if you sure a decoy , put your chin down and get busy ,I see the problem Kenny feed up every body down in spirits and discombobulated
I agree with a bunch of what You said, but Your hate of Najee is crazy. Warren does same thing, and all the Warren lovers act like they don’t see it. Yes Warren has had a great last two games, but I will ask again....where was all the un biased opinion of Warren in the Texans game. When He was getting shut the f**k down, and Najee was the only thing working, or have the Warren lovers forgotten that game. LoL What it shows is ....yes some rbs will look better in different games. Again I say when Tomlin runs primarily one back everyone complains about running a rbs wheels off, and when He runs 2 rbs... one rb isn’t getting enough carries. LoL 😂. Never happy. Its working the way they are doing it. The running game is the very very least of this offenses problems. So why make it a problem. Up until the last game ...the so called slow Najee had not only the longest run this season out of them both, but the longest reception of the the season out of them both. I don’t understand why We can't like both, and use both.🤷♂️ Reminds Me of everyone that said Pollard from Dallas was the better runner over Elliott when Elliott was still good.....the Dallas fans just knew for sure.., and as soon as Elliott was let go, and Pollard became the man....his run per carry took a nose dive. 😂
Well here is my problem we all know Canada was bad is was obvious. Tomlin being a head coach and a defensive coach should have seen Canadas faults and canned him long ago. Seems Tomlin can’t for some reason admit mistakes. Takes to long to admit problems and fix them. On Pickett he is not NFL material. Lacks so much its not worth going into. Arm talent is one. I don’t think he sees the field well and can’t get the ball out under pressure.
Everyone knew that the coach had been the problem since Ben was there and he should have been fired long time before that son of ass kept us back from getting ahead we got the same problem the left overs are the same thing/////////woe is me I miss Matt Canada that’s all well but we don’t need to hear that song we need action not excuses nor feelings for the lacking of our incompetent leaders nuff said
I was also mad at the call but be real, that whole play crumbled bc of kenny.. Calvin Austin was wide open down the field. If kenny steps up in the pocket, he has a clean pocket and can make an easy throw. Instead, he scrambled out of a clean pocket into a sack Again, that was a bad call for that situation, but there was a receiver open downfield. Kenny missed him
@@IndyBigBodiedBucks No he didn't. Plays are called a certain way and once a play is committed and running and the defense sees what is happening, then they go to the ball so receivers then look open, when it is too late. You basically have to say Pickett should not have run the play called and audibled on the fly which we do not even know if he has the freedom to do. Since we saw the reaction of Canada when he did do that on a TD and still looked pissed, I tend to believe Pickett is NOT allowed to do that.
jt o'sullivan said the same thing in his breakdown of the rams game. on the first series the o-line missed assignments on 2 plays and let dudes run in on pickett and after that pickett's footwork showed he was anticipating pressure, sometimes that never even came.
That's exactly what it looks like. Kenny thinks he needs to take the snap, take one look and throw and if he does not see that one receiver open, run for his life. Go back to the preseason, he looked so smooth, but I am counting 1,2, 3, 4 seconds. Well, that was the O-line against 2nd string and rookie players. @@CroMagJohnson
@@Ayyshaddy Oh I know, I actually commented on other video about that. He is getting man handled and lol he passed off Garrett once to Isaac and they both couldn't put up the double block together smh
After watching this I feel bad for Kenny. Has been given no help to grow... execution issues a lot by him, a lot not and horrible play calling. I think Mahomes might struggle in this scheme of Offense as a rookie lol, would for sure be better but still it's been bad for the 2nd year qb. I also think Kenney saw D end coming unblocked on that last play and is why he decided before he snapped the ball it was going to Warren.
Idc how bad I say Kenny yes if y’all get him legit OC C RT jones playing RT rn put him back at LT when a legit RT come I swear he will cook ong when he oline block he be cooking he has time not nervous in the pocket
Man I just discovered this channel and this guy knows football! Next time a fellow yinzer argues with me about how great KP and NH are I'm directing them here! I SMASHED that subscribe button!!!
Great video. Seems like the linemen are lollygagging on these screens, they’re in the way bc they don’t get where they are supposed to be. Pulling the ball down and firing a pass or two down field to the wideouts should make this rail work better going forward, but it’s a display of the depressing sideways mentality under Canada -…hopefully this goes by the wayside since Sullivan likes to push the ball vertically…hope it’s pound the rock and start to hit some chunks in the pass game the next couple weeks
At 3min in you say kp holds the ball too long. Pause it. No one is open, no one is looking, and he has a defender 3yds and closing. That's under 3 steps, meaning less than 1 second, kp is on his ass. These plays are trash. I do think Canada has some good plays, but he doesn't call them. There are literally 2 passes completed between the numbers in the last 2 weeks. It's the same 2 weeks before that. You can not run an offense by making your qb throw to the sideline all the time. Do you realize Pat and Washington combine has under 15 catches all year. Kp hit gp on a slant for 74yds in week 2, haven't ran one since. Why? It's 2 or 3 step drop and bam. Play action and the wr is behind the lbs, no play action and it's screwed. This team has run the least amount of play action in the league, but over the last 4 games averages 181 rushing per game. No one can stop them. If Canada would have called 3 runs when they were on the 40. Game over. At the 40 boz trys a 57yd fg. If they only got 5yds in the 3 rushes, it's a 52yd. Game's over. If you just handed it off to 30, I don't know if cle ever sees the ball again. And why did pit play a press man on d. Their qb sucks. He was getting the ball out in under 2 seconds. Jam the wrs and make him hold it. DC needs to go too. This team has way too much talent.
I think from here on out will be our greatest evaluation of our offensive roster. I’ve been refraining from criticizing a lot of players because it’s so hard to determine what effect an incompetent Canada had on their play.
Yes! KP can’t see anything
@@TheMcfreeze except Canada didn't allow KP to audible.
Lol, yep. Careful, you're about to be labeled an 'apologist.'
I can't take a channel seriously when they call people names for disagreeing with them.
@@maggiemay5221 And in the internet age any schmuck with a microphone and an internet connection can present himself as an expert.
@@Boblib1970 I love JT’s stuff.
If he doesn’t throw it immediately to Warren he gets completely creamed by the unblocked unaccounted for right edge rusher
Lol lol
Appreciate the breakdown. I think JT O’Sullivan has a bit more insight on his breakdown of some of these plays tho on his qb school video.
Najee needs to stop dancing around and push forward warren taking his job 😂
7:30 I remember Kenny's first primetime game with Troy Aikman commentating and he was questioning if Kenny's back shoulder balls were on purpose. You probably get people defending him on those because there's been slander from the beginning when he throws back shoulders. I'm not sure what specific balls you're referring to but people really do see a nice back shoulder and say it was underthrown bc they don't understand what they're seeing
You're right, bro. naji shouldn't be starting, and Mike Tomlin acts like he doesn't see or know that.
New coordinator- New Offensive line - New Head Coach - New Team. Pickett will never make it 😢
Thank you for breaking down the Steelers offensive screen pass woes of just 1 game. Would you like a job as offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers? Please send this video to Mr. Art Rooney and cc Mike Tomlin
Every Steelers fan is, like Najee said, TIRED OF THIS SHIT.
Agreed!
Jalen is the feature, Najee should be a fullback at this point.
Yeah I gave it all at Alabama funny thing Travis Etienne got drafted after him smh😢
I just found your show and it's great!
Brodrick and Warren are like the two positive things about the offense right now. Really excited to see if they can flourish not being shackled by Canada
Not Canada fault. The players don’t execute
@@Brascobadboyhow are they supposed to execute when they don't have competent coaches to teach them how to execute?
Steelers need to lure Mike Munchack back to coaching the O-line.
Warren should honestly get 85-90% of the snaps. He’s simply better. Much better.
You should be the OC for Steelers Nation!
That’s a hot read because that corner was coming off the opposite side
a well executed screen is one of prettiest plays in the game
Tomlin has to go, he's lost this team, and I argue so much with friends and family about Warren playing better than Najee, I think he's better
How Tomlin lost this team?
A nice tweak would be faking the screen to open up downfield. Backs do a terrible job of faking the handoff on play action. They have to sell that fake to bring the LBs up. This is why the middle of the field is so hard for KP hit. He has to sell the fake also
Lol … the fact we’ve won any games is pretty phenomenal
@ 9:13 you’re wrong. That IS A DESIGNED PASS TO THE RB! That’s a clear out, immediately get the ball out. You can pull up 2019 film and see Ben making the same throw. This is a called pass. It’s a terrible play. Or do you think Ben didn’t know how to read a defense?
I would say that it's a terrible play when you're not stretching the field. Those DBs can be 99.9% sure their assignments aren't going to be targeted beyond 5 yards and can just sit and wait.
Holy shit Kenny has almost NO TIME TO THROW. How inconsistent can this O Line be?
The reciever closet to line was open, wide open from the start of the play decent qb makes that play .
Why wasn’t “ HALL of FAME “, head coach Mike Tomlin not able to see this all season and correct it. Wasn’t he a Defensive Coordinator at one time ?
Warren was the only one to produce in this Canada offense. Imagine what he could do with a better scheme.
Thank God we lost that game. If we won, Canada is still calling plays this week😮
Wow 16 points? HERE WE GO!
After that last play I had to go into the bathroom!
Kenny pickett is definitely not patrick mahomes or CJ stroud, but its an absolute travesty that the steelers scheme and playcalling is making him look like one of the worst QBs of all time, because hes not
Jones and Seumalo opening up the edge for Warren should happen 20 times a game.
There is supposed to be pressure on the QB on a screen pass
as a lineman(center) when you have a guy like myles garrett on the edge you’re entire blocking scheme changes now im not saying that’s case here but i can see why najee was automatically helping dan moore(who sucks)
This would be the best game plan and one I would choose aswell
Give Jalen the Rock! I want the Vette not the Truck
Great analysis. Diontae was to the house open on that check down to Warren. One thing I mentioned with the Matt Canada firing, that hot seat is fully under Kenny Pickett now. If he rises up, we will know the problem.
Yes but could Kenny get it there? And, could Johnson catch it?
Is that. Najee or Canada telling him to help with the block first then turn around. Either or that’s horrible.
The screen is going the wrong side. Screen should go opposite of bunch formation
@mr808steelers-Book 'em Dan-O!
Throw in the middle of the field instead of all the crap screens and your way ahead already
Pickett knows who he's throwing too pre snap ,never goes through progression
Kenny has not been good at all there’s plays left on the field that a NFL QB should make die hard Steelers fan but he’s been so bad to watch
Those are not pickett tendencies. That is designed and taught to him by Canada. Mitch did the same so did Ben the final season. That's what Canada's is telling them to read
I am hoping you are right. My fear is that these guys taking over dont adjust and keep the same old skeem.
@user-ye4ux1hl2u they have said they will run Canada's offense. Hopefully they tweak it at least a little.
Cap brother
@@robdishjr4912It's too late into the season to change the playbook but hopefully they'll adjust the playcalling and ignore Canada's dumbest plays
Because i see him trying very hard to operate within structure and most of the time the structure is holding him back
Wow that play calling was terrible
You guys need to start Warren over najee
The first play on o was a complete failure too
Absolutely correct ! And the sad thing about this is it didn't even have to take any last minute heroics by Kenny Pickett all he had to do was complete a few ordinary passes to a few simple routes run by receivers and a few screens and we would have won this game by a few touchdowns without even breaking a sweat. Ugh
The players are not executing. Harris and Cole suck
My take: Kenny is ruined from the concussions, i like him but if he can't cut it he has to go for his sake and ours,
Jaylen has been the better RB since he became a Steeler last season.
@@robertacampbell5382 long time Steelers fan also AFC North has the longest tenure coaches for a reason harbaugh was on the hot seat awhile back they traded claypool and im sure they see harris skillset the rooneys are a family organization and you dont turn your back duringa few hard times besides could be 2-7 everyone thinks Tomlin coaching for his record impossible since he's
not suiting up on the field 😆
The point I was trying to make is the Rooneys are loyal and don't panic. Tomlin has been HC for 18 years last SB appearance over 10 years ago and last play off winter 6 or 7 years. But for almost 3 years now the team and for Kenny since he was drafted last seadon has been handcuff. We actually do not know how Kenny will be with a real OC instead of the worst OC in the NFL. Heck Peyton Manning started off horrible. I am not saying Kenny will be the next Manning just saying let's se what happens under a different OC. It's game time. Go Steelers show your will and win this game.
Is Kenny Pickett able to sell the fake hand off?
great video.
Man on the pass to Warren even I could see the slot was gonna be wide open down the middle, that is not good. Shit
Exactly. This guy is biased and not very smart. He doesn't like Pickett so he's looking to criticize at every possible opportunity.
Right that one literally might’ve been a fumble returned for a TD if he held on to it lol
I am not saying Pickett is Malholmes yet or is a great QB, but there is a lot of failures with this offense and everyone calling for him to be benched are nuts.
front line needs to improve
I've heard third times the charm evidently Matt has heard 5th times the charm lol how in the hell did this guy get a job .
I see a lot of poor execution , and yes it's the players not performing their jobs but Canada was failing to correct their mistakes,, now to be fair the players knew Canada was a boob so they could have been ignoring his coaching
but I doubt that was the case
Good break down
Najee making excuses for his own poor execution. I hope he gets it going quick or Warren gonna take gis job and he wont get a big contract next year.
This could be an analysis of our interior line and especially Cole . Just immediate pressure up the middle on almost every play . Cole is killing us all year He can’t pass block to save his life and is lost in space out there .
He’s really awful. Why not try her big there? Could it really be any worse?
Kp not understanding what's going on. NH too slow and mason cole simply is terrible frfr idk how he hasnt been replaced 😤
A lot of those problems were execution problems and some may be because Pickett doesn't audible he only has the option play, like when a guy who shows blitz coming up your A gap and you make no adjustments for that and get ran out of the hole, which again is in Canada
The sad thing is the only way the steelers could get anyone open is to throw it in the backward on 3 and 10
Why not just go knocc somebody out if you sure a decoy , put your chin down and get busy ,I see the problem Kenny feed up every body down in spirits and discombobulated
Pickett can look to the heavens, He will never be a good qb.
Trent Richardson 2.0
I don’t understand why We can't like both, and use both.🤷♂️
Reminds Me of everyone that said Pollard from Dallas was the better runner over Elliott when Elliott was still good.....the Dallas fans just knew for sure.., and as soon as Elliott was let go, and Pollard became the man....his run per carry took a nose dive.
Everyone knew that the coach had been the problem since Ben was there and he should have been fired long time before that son of ass kept us back from getting ahead we got the same problem the left overs are the same thing/////////woe is me I miss Matt Canada that’s all well but we don’t need to hear that song we need action not excuses nor feelings for the lacking of our incompetent leaders nuff said
Wish kenny watched this
Canada should've lost his job after the Texans game where he called SG on 4 and 1 and it ended up getting Kenny injured
I was also mad at the call but be real, that whole play crumbled bc of kenny..
Calvin Austin was wide open down the field. If kenny steps up in the pocket, he has a clean pocket and can make an easy throw. Instead, he scrambled out of a clean pocket into a sack
Again, that was a bad call for that situation, but there was a receiver open downfield.
O line looked like a sieve. KP is playing scared.
jt o'sullivan said the same thing in his breakdown of the rams game. on the first series the o-line missed assignments on 2 plays and let dudes run in on pickett and after that pickett's footwork showed he was anticipating pressure, sometimes that never even came.
Heck I would too with that line, in fact I would fake injury and pass the puck
That's exactly what it looks like. Kenny thinks he needs to take the snap, take one look and throw and if he does not see that one receiver open, run for his life. Go back to the preseason, he looked so smooth, but I am counting 1,2, 3, 4 seconds. Well, that was the O-line against 2nd string and rookie players. @@CroMagJohnson
@@RANS87IROCZits mostly mason cole
@@Ayyshaddy Oh I know, I actually commented on other video about that. He is getting man handled and lol he passed off Garrett once to Isaac and they both couldn't put up the double block together smh
All i see is lack of detail
Well I lost following when you start and talk that your only option under center is pass or run. Well that is all the options the offense has.
JW 65/35
Najee use in situational football is insane. But warren should def be getting more than 50% now i agree.
Idc how bad I say Kenny yes if y’all get him legit OC C RT jones playing RT rn put him back at LT when a legit RT come I swear he will cook ong when he oline block he be cooking he has time not nervous in the pocket
Kenny is trash he does not look down field at all!!! The last play you showed is proof of that he plays scared and way to conservative
A play action screen to the running back u faked seems counter productive..you have guys looking that way from the get go..my madden iq kniws better
