    I used the Allak 2 a couple years ago, and because of my size I only have 25 inch mats, and sometimes bring the dogs, it was just too tight for me. I love all the other aspects of the Allak 2 like the weight, footprint and fabric strength and was wishing it was made in a 3 person size. Well it is available now.
    Allak models are well-suited for anything from summer paddling to winter ski mountaineering, and from year-round backpacking to all-season peak bagging. They are easily light enough for mobile journeys, where you move your camp every day, and their two-entrance construction allows for superb ventilation options in warm weather. At the same time, the Allak's three-pole dome structure is strong enough for summer or winter base camp use in all but the worst conditions, and the fully freestanding construction make it ideal for tough pitching conditions, such as rocky ground and sand. In addition, its two integrated vestibules are set parallel to the sleeping area, giving excellent access to gear storage space as well as ease of entry and exit. Since its introduction, paddlers have valued the Allak’s ability to be pitched nearly anywhere, while backpackers choose it for its roomy stability and light weight. Mountaineers appreciate both the Allak’s freestanding design, compact footprint, and its roominess, as well as its ability to deal with snow loading. And taller adventurers find its length a welcome comfort.

    I looked at the Staika compared with the Allak 3. I do not understand how you said the Staika was a little bit too big for you but the Allak 3 is just right when they are nearly identical in size? Actually, the Allak 3 is 2 inches higher in interior space than the Staika. The Allak 3 is 1 inch longer and 12 inches wider than the Staika. The only thing larger on the Staika than the Allak 3 is the vestibules are 2 inches wider.

      I was probably referring to the weight or overall weight of the fabrics and other build gear. I think for what I do, or many people the Allak is perfectly adequate.

    Nice first pitch video Bruce. I concur with the real-world limit of the Allak 2 for those of us who prefer 25" pads, and I'm happy you showed the interior with pads and a quilt to get a sense of actual interior space. It seems much more spacious than its little brother. For your next video it'd be very helpful to see a shot from the outside with 2-3 people sitting upright inside the tent - how much extra headroom does the additional 2" (vs the Allak 2) actually afford people? Also, what's the wind resistance like? Typically a longer pole span is going to make a tent feel less rigid unless using a higher diameter pole. Unlike the Soulo which pitches tight as a drum even without guylines, the Allak 2 has some movement and needs to be pegged out and guylines fully deployed to give it somewhat comparable rigidity. Hopefully Hilleberg figured out the revised geometry (16" wider, 3" longer, 2" taller than Allak 2) in a way that maximizes the strength of such a big dome.

      Great thoughts Stuart. I will add that request on future videos. I am hoping when we get to interview Petra she can give us some of the testing lowdown. She really knows a ton of the little details. We started talking about her micromesh the other day and I could have talked for hours just on that alone.

      @@naturecallsoutdoors Taking my Allak 2 to Kazakhstan in October. One of things as soon as i bought said was this is a one person tent for me. Nearly 204cm talland my pad is also 25inches wide and 79 long.
      It's a good one person tent but for two people you need the Allak 3.
      For winter, would you suggest running two pole system or getting the 10mm poles?

    May I ask you a question. I am single and may have the occasional tent mate. Given it would often just be me but occasionally a second person, no dog...would you recommend the Allek 2? I have a 25" mattress...can I get 2 x 25" in there? The dimensions say we only have 47" to work with. Thank you.

    • @naturecallsoutdoors
      @naturecallsoutdoors  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, I think it would work great. We did have 2 25" mats in an Allak 2 and it was pushing out the sides, but I don't think it would be too hard on the tent if only occasionally. We could have put the mattresses in opposing and it would have worked fine too. Like one head on one end and one on the other. I think the Allak 3 may be too much tent for what you need.

      Thank you so much. That is exactly the advice I was looking for. I do sea/river kayaking. I was going to purchase the Rogan because I don't anticipate winter use, but I may run into high winds, hence the Allek. Also, I think you get a much better build with The Allek vs the Rogan for the same amount of money.

    Bruce fantastic review I am considering this or the Staika. In your comments. You said that the Staika is too big. Could you explain a little bit.
    I love the idea of a black label and this new tent is very close weight wise. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    • @naturecallsoutdoors
      @naturecallsoutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you are more of a Black Label person then the Staika. The Staika will have bigger vestibules that could be an advantage, but the Allak 3 has pretty nice ones. I know last year we had the Staika and the Allak 2 up in the snow and the Staika foot pits were pretty big in comparison. I am of a Red Label person. I just don't have super major winds to deal with ever. And as far as snow load, I have had an Anjan in probably the worst of snowloads. The fabric and construction was fine, and if I did a better job guying it out the poles would have probably faired fine, they bent a little. The new Allak has better headroom which is awesome. So if it were up to me, I would go Allak 3.

    I really like this tent, seems like a great design. I’m debating getting a large canvas base camp tent for car camping and this tent for canoeing and hiking. How comfortable is the tent for 2 adults, 1 small kid (under 5)?

    • @naturecallsoutdoors
      @naturecallsoutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Like most tent sizing in my opinion, they are small. or if your family was small and your sleep mats were 20 inch wide you will fit. All my pads are 25 inch pads so only 2 can fit, and a small child could tuck in I suppose. I don't know how big you are, but if you are all smaller, then you could do it. We use a Kelty Salida 4 for our trips when we take the dogs to have enough room. It won't work in the winter, but is great the rest of the year. I haven't tried the Saivo yet, but that may be your option in the Hilleberg line.

    @paulandersson6120 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you say that the Allak 3 is way to big for solo? Having problems deciding if I should choose the Allak 2 or 3. Having the 3 gives more room for a guest but for solo it seems to big inside. I'm only 5,11 so the length isn't a issue in either of the tents.

    • @naturecallsoutdoors
      @naturecallsoutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Allak 2 will be plenty. I would get the Allak 3 for myself as I usually have 2 people and a dog and that was tight. We have used the 2 and it is a great tent for 2. There isn't any extra room inside after you get the pads and bags in though, but there is pockets for the little things. The best part is are the vestibules, they are true usable spaces.

      @@naturecallsoutdoors Would you say that the height of the roof inside is similar (ofcourse 2 inches more on the Allak 3) between Allak 2 and 3? I tried the Staika 2 that almost has the same floor area as Allak 2 and height in the inner roof but it felt very narrow because of the walls angels.

  • @_Akicita_
    @_Akicita_ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I may have misunderstood but do you feel the Allak 3 has less, or more interior space than the Staika?

    • @naturecallsoutdoors
      @naturecallsoutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Allak 3 has more. The Staika is more of a rectangle and wide enough for the 25 inch mats to fit, the Allak 2 wasn't wide enough, but the Allak 3 has plenty of room and room for gear in the sleeping area like extra clothes or a dog. I am not sure, but the the Staika vestibules seem much bigger than the Allak 2, but I haven't had the Staika and Allak 3 side by side for that comparison. I think the Allak 3 vestibules are the same size as the Allak 2 though. Hope that helps. I would go Allak 3 personally, but I am confident in the ability of the Red Label line.

    How well does the allak cope with snow load? Do the poles bend ?

    • @naturecallsoutdoors
      @naturecallsoutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Allak does great with snow load. We have very wet snow here that accumulates way up in the firs that drops down in the night. I only had a little bend with an Anjan once and it was because I didn't stake it out properly. The guylines done correctly would probably have helped a lot. The dome Allak holds up great. I think there is some explorer guy that Petra interviewed that had an Allak that was covered in an avalanche and it survived.

    How does it handle condensation in wet weather? Is the ventilation enough to keep it dry inside? Really love your review and hope you can answer this honestly! :)

    • @naturecallsoutdoors
      @naturecallsoutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of my best ways to fight condensation is to have a big enough tent for the amount of people breathing and wet gear. This Allak 3 is great for 2 people, great ventilation with that many. I imagine 3 people would push it, as well as wet gear, but the ceiling vents and door cracking works pretty well compared to my other tents

    @Nature Call Backpacking,
    Hi, I'm based in the uk. Your comment about which pole first is very interesting. I tried my theory 3 times with the same result! I have a green Staika, from George Fisher in the UK. The top clip at the apex highest point of the tent; only stretches to the blue pole IF IT IS PUT INTO AND ACROSS THE TOP OF THE TENT FIRST!!! If the blue pole is put in 2nd or middle position OR LAST right on top, the rubber that holds the clip will not clip onto the pole.
    As I say I asked the main dealer in the UK to try it and got no acknowledgement. I do not know the answer from Hilleberg either as I haven't approached them to ask. Your trial of this theory and reply would be appreciated??
