£200 Tent vs £1100 Tent. What is the Difference? | Cloud Peak 2 vs Hilleberg Allak 2

  • In this video we take a look at a popular budget 2 man tent, the Naturehike Cloud Peak 2 and compare it to the more premium and pricey Hilleberg Allak 2. The difference in cost between the two tents is vast but is the cloud peak 2 a worthy wild camping tent for a fraction of the price?

      Good call. I'm 90% introvert on the Myers Briggs test. Not having to mix with people was great to begin with. I'm feeling it now. Extroverts in small households must be exhausted from bouncing off the walls. Few more weeks and GB and Ireland can be glad of having water around them. There's plenty to see/do in both places.
      Good assessment of the tents. Both designed in finer detail for specific markets. I've seen the one man sleep only tents used by hikers wgen camping with my kids. Don't think I could use one without being claustrophobic. Ironic in remote places. And I thought garden camping was to let the kids think they're having an adventure alone but you're really keeping an eye. Lol

    Totally agree Hazo. The cloud peak is an impressive tent for the money. Great design. The only things I’ve noticed is that when it rains, an open door exposes the inner which can get a bit wet if you’re not quick. Obviously it’s not as good in the wind as the hilleberg, but the cloud peak is mine and the mrs’s go to humble abode when up in the hills. Big hugs mate

    I have a Soulo and bought the Allak as a one-man option when I want a little more room. Winter camps especially.
    For me - the extra security you get from a Hilleberg is worth the cost. Ok, it's a lot of money.....but it will last 20 years if you look after it. £50-ish quid a year. To me, that's decent value.

  • @cycletouringoz5760

    Good ain’t cheap.
    Cheap don’t last.
    Being realistic, these cheaper tents are good for sporadic use only.
    Use them every day ? Even during the three seasons ? They are unlikely to last.
    Every day pitch
    Every day take down
    The high end tents are pricey for a reason.
    They have a tendency to last.
    It is, I suppose, all about what you intend to do with the tent……. Days per year etc
    Buy the best tent you can afford

    I am so pleased I purchased the Naturehike Cloud Peak 2. There are two internal pockets in the Cloud, one is very large mesh type mounted higher. The cloud peak 2 is very stable in high winds. (longer pegs are a must). There are two ceiling mesh vents, I have never had a problem with condensation. Both models allow water entry into the bath tub from the entry points. ( a cheap hack is to hot glue two extensions on the hood entry points with ties on the front corners for those miserable days when rain appears). The cloud peak 2 is 120cm at one end and 130cm at the other end. The Cloud Peak 2 is a much better option if you are hiking (weight wise). The Hilleberg Allak 2 is ridiculously over priced in comparison. From my experience the Allak 2 does not perform any better in mountain snow storms.Thanks for the great review.

But when we’re all suffering cabin fever, and you can get out for £200 after we’re set free again. I think that’s the way a lot of people will be going. Even people who have never camped/hiked are longing for the freedom of nature. For me, the sky is my happy place. So whenever I’m underneath it, or watching it, I’m a happy lady. What is the primary function of a tent, is it to shelter you from the elements, keep you safe, warm and DRY !
    So if someone rips you off and sells you a tent for say £1000 and that tent is so badly ventilated and designed that the manufacturer recommends a little towel or a waterproof cover for your bag, or let your sleeping bag get wet, what type of Idiot would still think they have a bargain !!!!

    I don't agree so much you are paying for the name, just normal payed people making it and the difference in quality in materials makes the difference. We are just used to much to under-payed , very bad payed labor in China. Also taxe differences etc. This is more of a politic and Yesss! Climate politics difference in price between China and Estland Sweden. Think about that too and tell people about it too when you discovered all that. Influencers :-) like you should! :-) warm greetings from the Netherlands, Onno Nugteren.

    The lock downs are ridiculous on their own. But forbidding camping? Exactly who are you going to contaminate way up in the hills by yourself? Something else afoot.
    Re the tents. I love the expensive one fir another reason. The colour. Cheery.
    I find blue or green tents distort your vision and when you go outside everything looks wierd.
    I prefer yellow, orange, red or brown/ beige.

    OK so you got a little spoilt getting the Hilleberg as a present (yes I am a little jealous ;-)). If you wouldn't spend £1100 on a tent what would be your choice for a 3-4 season tent? What sort of money would you be willing to spend. I am interested to learn what you look for as I am looking for a new tent.

    Just been watching your review, and you said you haven;t slept in/used the cloud peak 2. So how can you do a proper review and comparison? Seriously? Shouldn't you have used it in a number of hikes, in various weather conditions to be able to be convincing and competent?

    Its ok to say u wud buy it. What's the crime ? Shud we be embarrassed or ashamed cuz we but quality stuff? Why do we need to hide that? all I buy is hilleberg. We shud stand proud. I save. I have multiple hillebergs. Their great gear but why does everyone feel bad and hide in their words the fact we like nice stuff. Nice shit rules. Wud u buy Versace and then be ashamed.? Wud u buy quality gear knowing its gonna protect u and not fail and keep u alive in the conditions it's built for. This allak will keep you safe and alive and secure. The nature hike will fail and put u in danger so quickly. Its not trustworthy when ur out and against the elements. Its a gamble. Hilleberg serves a purpose.

    While I'm sure the helleberg is a great tent, it's never worth £1200 or whatever, no tent is.....well, perhaps a circus tent would be decent value at £1200. The naturehike is clearly a copy but looks decent and going from TH-cam reviews out in the fields, it holds up well. Thanks for the video, at least you're honest.

    Great review/comparison. Certainly itching to go out there. I still don't understand why tent manufacturers don't agree on a minimum standard of at least 220cm in length. Would make life much easier for tall hikers, and those who wish to store their gear inside their tent instead of the porch area.

    Well Hazeeeey you managed to get me into the mountains walking and off my Motorcycle.I Managed styhead tarn first trip with my sack 2 dogs and a go pro. Made me lunch looking towards Scarfell Pike with the Gable behind me. Had a blast and my dogs quit before the decent which caused a few issues. Glad I didn't Proceed to the Pike or I might of need a airlift for the dogs that would have been a good one for the tube. Anyhow small tent time but what's the best under £200 2 man 3 season tent that I can stay alive in if I come across a freak snow storm in summer. Ade

    I agree with you about garden camping. Was going to tonight and thought what a stupid idea when my bed and air-conditioning are just 15 metres away. Lol! And so what is the problem with the tent... we have to throw away our conscience understanding that it's been developed by cheap labour and stolen intellectual property.

    I must say that I really like this person's videos I like the humour he injects into his videos they're very interesting and very so topmarks on that regard. Regarding the video where he compares so nice hike cloud peak 2 to the hilleberg allak 2. I'm really thrilled this family got the money together for his birthday and bought in the I like to that's a wonderful gesture they've got a fantastic tent real top quality it's like the Bentley of tents. I have the cloud peak 2. And it's fantastic tent I got it for a great price you can't knock it all naturehike tents fantastic and they're all the great price. But to use the whole video as an ego boosting exercise to promote the hilleberg tent I thought was childish and frivolous

    Sorry mate.
    Just like many others you've got it wrong!
    With the Hilleberg tents you are not paying for the brand name. You are paying for the know how and quality. They invented the PERFECT tent, and most just make a cheap copy. Its as simple as that. If the production of the tent is lets say £300 and the rest is for the company, you say its the brand name I say it is the know how, I personally am more then happy to pay for the know how. And also I am MORE then happy to pay for quality. Quality is impossible to measure in terms of money, so if Hilleberg estimates quality and everything that comes with it, like your tent lasting your whole life or not collapsing in extreme conditions, I am happy to pay. In this case £800.
    How do you measure a failed trip in winter when your tent collapses in money? You don't. Rather support quality products, European production and smart people like the Hillebergs.
    Thx.

    • @marko9912
      @marko9912 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say you are paying for the name, but that's because it's a name worth paying for. You don't spend that kind of money just to say you own a Hilleberg and only garden camp in summer. It's for people like Haze and Paul Messner and another channel I follow in Norway/Sweden, Erik Normark. As you say if you had a tent collapse in winter it would be a disaster and could mean your life, so in that sense £1000 is worth every penny, that you have the confidence to go to extreme environments and enjoy yourself knowing you'll be safe.
      I remember being in S.France years ago hitch-hiking and looking for work, and one rough stormy night me and my mate we're hanging on to the tent poles inside to try and keep it from collapsing, absolute nightmare and I couldn't imagine trying to deal with that on a mountain.
      I currently have the Robens Starlite 2 but once finances allow I'm thinking about going for a Hilly. Torn between the Tarra and the Nammatj 2GT. The vestibule on the latter is amazing but the Tarra is free standing and I like the idea of doors either end and that it's the strongest 2 man of all the Hilleberg tents.

    • @peterpohan3850
      @peterpohan3850 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marko9912 Hilleberg said many times they will stick with tents and will not expand in other areas. That's the reason you are paying for the know how and quality and not for the brand. Everybody is branching out to as much areas as possible, like MSR has brilliant products but not so good (compared to Hilleberg) tents, etc.
      Nevertheless I highly recommend a Hilleberg, I have a Soulo and its th best piece of gear I ever bought!

    • @wittsend541
      @wittsend541 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marko9912 I’ve had exactly the conditions you describe where I was holding onto / bracing the poles of a tent in a storm, but i actually was on a mountain with no real prospect of escaping until the storm had passed in the morning.
      This was in a £60, 4 season tent with additional guys.
      It was warping badly in 80MPH winds and I was sat upright with my backpack on, bracing the walls, it was that bad. After about 2 hours, knackered, I reasoned that it was a 4 season tent, pitched well, should last the night, so I let go, laid down and waited to see how long it would last.
      About 20 mins. 2/3 poles snapped and I found myself in a world of cold / wet. Checked my watch, it was 21:30, that was one long night, went from camping to survival.
      3 tents went down that night, all of us got hypothermia.
      So I bought a Hilleberg Soulo, which has shrugged off 60MPH winds and I’m confident it would have not only survived that night, but with the inner removed, accommodated all 3 of us.

    I have that nostalgic attachment to my old cheap Eurohike 2 man dome tent which I still have. I lived in it for 2 months on an ocean cliff top in Cornwall in winter. Nothing extreme, but there were many bad windy and rainy nights. It held up pretty well and never leaked. Condensation was sometimes an issue, but for a £50 tent it was amazing!
