    Happy Saturday everyone! Something a bit different today! I've not done a tutorial in a long time, and I thought I'll do something easy. Turns out Android TV has changed a lot in the last year or two and Nest have totally bollocksed up their Android TV app so this was an utter nightmare to achieve 🤣 Easy to replicate though now I've gone through that pain so I hope this one helps you all out! There's no sponsorship on this one so if you fancy buying me a beer as a thank you then the details are below, as usual no pressure at all to do so...

      Morning Paul, I have NVIDIA shield, and if I ask google assistant to stream front yard camera to Nvida shield, it just does? Do you need this program if you want it to interrupt t.v??? I have nest thermostat, but only use Voger Cams...When I tell home assistant.... ...home assistant.....

    Attaching the doorbell to the mount is a little difficult but once it locks into place it seems extremely sturdy. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxxHZwMa8CsRjYhf9s4W8w0Dwm47uytWOp I replaced my regular doorbell with this and hard wired it in, using my existing wires and mechanical chime. It works perfect so far and integrates perfectly with my blink camera system. It also works seamlessly with Alexa

    I've got a reliable Aeon motion sensor at my front door that never false triggers. I just set an Alexa routine which basically goes 'if sensor triggers, then tell alexa to show me the front door camera'. The feed then pops up on my lounge echo show.

    Great tutorial video, and shame about Amazon Fire TV sticks not working for this. One minor thing you missed is that you need to set the Nest app to only notify you when someone presses the door bell. Mine is set to notify me when the door bell is pressed or when it sees a person, in which case my TV is going to be flicking to the Nest app way more times than I need it to. I guess some people will learn this the hard way tho! 🙂

    Don't have a camera doorbell, just watching for entertainment value (and a little for Tasker curiosity). Question though: are the automated button press coordinates always the same? I guess potentially for this app they are, but what if someone wanted something similar to your tutorial, but launch a different app with different button placement? How would they find the right coordinates?

    • @TheoWillemse
      @TheoWillemse 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I'm not mistaken, the coordinates are counted from top left to bottom right. If you have a lower or higher resolution it could be these coordinates are not for you. You could however check the developer options of that android device to see if there is an option that shows the coordinates. Guess these coordinates are pixel based so you could also do a raw calculation. It's quite a big area where you can click in.

    • @cerietke
      @cerietke 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheoWillemse With a little luck there might be an app that can give you the coordinates. I was hoping Paul might add how he got them to his post, as people will likely look there first and it seems like a bit of an oversight for the tutorial not to mention how he obtained them.
      And agreed, top left to bottom right seems sensible, different resolution would most likely change it for other devices. I also remember a well hidden setting in Android for how much screen elements should be enlarged, which I once used to make everything on my phone a bit smaller. Unfortunately I don't remember the specific setting, but it needed a terminal command so it probably isn't commonly used. In any case, it seems likely that the coordinates can vary.

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Trial and error is the only way I've found to do it, just punch some numbers in and then press play in tasker and see where the mouse ends up clicking, repeat the process until the mouse is clicking in the right place 😊

    Amazon Alexa is the best for home automation, it has the most skills.
    Also, Google can't add a device to more than 1 room or group; example: kitchen and family room are adjacent to each other and I want the lights in both room to turn
    off if I say all, as well as independently turning off either room.
    Alexa is inexpensive so I bought 8 to equip every room with Amazon Alexa for voice control so that I can just ask 'turn off the lights' and the echo in that room
    knows to turn off those lights and not other lights in the house.
    Alexa also allows a voice routine to have many alternative phrases.
    Google app's fonts are really really really tiny for my old eyes.

    Hi Paul, I know you did this video a while back but I had a number of questions. As a newbie I'm trying to automate some things for my parents home and the idea of being able to have the video doorbell automatically display on the TV for them would be fantastic I understand the basic concepts of what you were putting together - now to my questions. Since a bit of time has passed are any of the steps/tools need to be updated to do this? The TV my parents have is a new Samsung - 55” Class S95B OLED 4K Smart Tizen TV so I assume it has the capability to install the apps you talked about in it's OS. They have a eufy video doorbell. They also don't have an android phone, but they do have an IPAD that can run the eufy app and receive doorbell notifications. Does the tasker app work on an ipad or does it need to be an android phone? I'd love any advice you can give on how to get this automated process started. I'd be happy to buy you a few beers so we can chat - let me know your thoughts.
    Love all your videos and I hope you have a great new year and look forward to hearing from you soon.
    Thnx

    Holy Balls Man! I like technology but hate it at the same time! I've been considering all the options when it comes to getting home security cams, wired vs Wifi, Solar vs wired, all of the different brands and was leaning towards the Eufi's but every option just seems to have some major flaw. If you have a wired DVR type system & the crooks take your Dvr your screwed, if you have Wifi Cams you can't monitor them all at once in real time on a monitor. Or there's Wifi jammers, It's like you have to have a mixture of all of these crappy systems or jump through 10,000 hoops to have a foolproof setup, or just hire a pro to install a wired system with backup power and footage stored in the cloud, paid subscriptions, Hidden DVR, add on some Solar Cams that you can only view on your phone. It's utterly ridiculous how complicated this all is! Your Video is very entertaining, but I'd rather die than go through all of that.

    Great video. Silly question though. Why would you choose to use push bullet to push the Nest notification from your phone if you have the Nest app installed on the Shield...?

    • @kylepeace9274
      @kylepeace9274 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, agree. You would think that the Nest App on the TV /Nvidia would get the same notification when the doorbell is depressed, to then show the door camera.

      So I’ve figured this home assistant part .
      It goes ;
      Create- event - ui
      Action - launch app- google assistant- say - show “camera nam”
      The part I’d love to figure out is how to get all this to run smoothly in the background.

    Not to be that one guy, but you could make an automation in Home Assistant that plays the camera stream on your Nvidia Shield when your Doorbell detects motion. In understand why do didn't want to do this, but honestly it's not the hardest thing compared to all this stuff.

      Replace nest app with Eufy and select the Eufy app throughout the tutorial instead of nest 😊 the only other thing you might have to change is where the mouse clicks on the screen when configuring autoinput.

    I've installed & configured everything step-by-step both on my phone & Google Chromecast with Google TV devices.
    However, for some reason the push notification from Pushbullet doesn't trigger the task on tasker. Not manually and not by Tasker.
    Permissions are all set properly.

  • @Damo16a
    @Damo16a 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you have an Amazon device with a screen or fire TV stick, Eufy, Nest and Ring all have skills that allow camera views ( probably more but that's the 3 I checked ) So all you have to do is create a routine when doorbell is pressed ask Alexa to display on your selected device.

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1
