  • The power of cultic indoctrination, by just one man, the leader of the Exclusive Brethren, is displayed in this video through the harrowing story; Pets Die: Cult Says Get Rid.
All pets had to go says John Spinks, who was born into the Exclusive Brethren now called PBCC, the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church. Some were given away, some were sold, some were killed.
What was the cause? The 'Man of God said so. That's all. No further questions. When you are indoctrinated, you don't have the critical thinking to question, you only comply, no matter what, even when you are told to get rid of your pets; immediately.
The 2 questions asked at the end of this video are:
1: How much do you love your pets? What are their names and what animal are they?
2: What would you say to a religious leader who told you that if you follow him, you can’t have a pet?
Read the full story how John Spinks endured his 22 year challenge, the history, the childhood, the separate lifestyle, the laws, rules and fear of the consequences of disobeying the 'Man of God,' his eventual escape and much more, read the whole story in the book Cult Escape:

Thank you for sharing pictures of your beloved pets! They are members of our families and precious companions. I am so sorry killing pets was part of your cult. I was allowed a pet as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, so was never instructed to kill my dog or gerbils. However, I was prepared to kill my own children while under the influence of the leaders by denying them blood transfusions if ever needed. Thankfully that test never came while I was in that cult, but I had signed their "No Blood" cards and was prepared to deny them life. We are all out now, praise God.
I got my dog Guinness from another JW in my Kingdom Hall while still in the Watchtower. I loved Guinness and would often cry to him about my struggles there. Dogs are great listeners. My unconditional love toward Guinness made me wonder about "Jehovah's" conditional love toward me. How could I love a dog so much and God not love me? The need for God's love is what drew me away from the Watchtower. I am happy now on the outside of religion and in a relationship with Him instead.
My current pet is a dog named Banjo. He is a rescued dog from an abusive home. He has a few issues because of it but I know God brought us together. Banjo loves car rides and kayaks with me! I am so blessed to have this companion! We adopted Banjo exactly one year after Guinnesses death which occurred on our wedding anniversary. So that is a very special day for all of us.
What would I say to a cult leader demanding me to give up my pet? Ha ha. I don't think I'm allowed to spell that in public forums. Sadly, at one time I may have complied for I was under the influence of cult indoctrination. Though your cult and mine made different demands, it's all the same influence of giving our allegiance and will over to a religion rather than our creator. I know my creator delights in me as well as my dog and children (who are adults now with their own dogs). We are all loved. My eyes are open now, I'd give up the cult leader NOT my dog, children, or freedom!

Taking away pets from children and destroying them was a display of the power of indoctrination that controlled all the members.
Can’t imagine the trauma that many would have endured.
Yesssss, heaven will be full of animals, and forgiven humans who acted like monsters too 😁🙏🏻❤️

The indoctrination I was under in the Exclusive Brethren greatly diminished the empathy I had for loved ones who they excommunicated, never mind pets! I was heartless in those situations, my mind taken over by another.
Once these issues start to get highlighted, many will see the Emporer's new clothes scernarios in the laws that have had them chained for decades and will then be faced with making a decision of being controlled or running for freedom with the years they have left.

@@johnspinks3851 yes , those situation, what can alter personality, can "rub off" on other people that become steeped in it. Hurt people hurt people, John. I feel that depth of love and understanding is perhaps what needed most of all, to help heal it. And so this is why the animal can excel at this task. The have the level of depth of senses required to help deal with it. They'll automatically sense underlying feelings without needing to be told. While human can struggle to ever achieve this. Perhaps you might enjoy to take a look at this following video John. Its discussion about hurt people hurt people th-cam.com/video/oXaUO_pLv6c/w-d-xo.html
It can be dangerous, sometimes, to love other people more than we'd love ourselves John?. I feel that perhaps brethren might struggle with this. And ex brethren as well too sometimes. They'll be drawn to love the wrong people in ways what then prevent them from loving themselves healthily enough. What do you think John
I wonder if religion has helped to extend this problem as well. People know/learn how to love the religious figures, more than they'll know/learn how to love themselves. I feel i can't see that someone like Jesus would have wanted for this to occur. Perhaps this is where certain things might have been manipulated to suit other people's agenda. People who cant love themselves enough, then may fail to know how to love others, authentically or in healthy way. What do you think?

Great video about Hurt People, Hurt People SD, thank you. Well worth watching.
Maybe a word that sums up why people love other people too much, whereby they allow those people to control their lives, is the word idolatry.
It's an unhealthy unbalanced idol worship of a cult leader who has set them up to be his worshippers, through his coercive control and indoctrination, mixed with fear.
I used to worship such men, had their photographs on the lounge wall, every single household had the same, gave them money every month, mentioned their name throughout every meeting, revered and idolised these leaders.
It is very dangerous. these men suck your soul dry and have a legacy of separated and destroyed families as the fruit of their ministry.
Jesus' words of love God, and your neighbour as yourself have the opposite result.

I’m studying to be a vet nurse and my fiancé is a fringe member of the Brethren (not exclusive brethren though). We have a pet cat who is our little buddy. Next time I’m at that church I’m going to ask the members if they have any connection to the EB.
I strongly feel that there needs to be more regulations surrounding vet clinics putting down animals. Currently in Australia the owners will has more weight than the vets medical opinion of the animal (e.g it is healthy and doesn’t need to be put down and should be surrendered for adoption) and even if the vet is opposed to it the owner can still insist they are put down. The only thing a vet can really do is refuse the service, but then the owner can just take the animal to a different vet clinic until they find a place that will do it for them……
In my opinion if the animal is medically healthy and the owner wants to have it put down for no good reason (e.g. in this situation) it should be flagged as animal abuse and the animal forcibly removed from them.

Frets whenever we'd have need to be apart. Keeps the local rats and mice on their toes. I'd most definitely be at a loss if i were to be without her . That's for sure . If a brethren leader were to ever tell me that i cant have a pet, well then i'd quickly tell them where to F*%#*&G go, without a second thought . I know Theresa, it's a horrible subject and I'm only drawing attention to it to show how decent people feel about pets and also how much children are missing out by being forbidden to have a pet and give it affection. All cults have different laws, many weird like this one. Only by creating awareness can things change and people get the information whereby they can make their own choices about their life and their children's lives and not be a conformist to a cult leader who thinks he has the right to coercively control the lives of his victims. How tragic! I’m glad you got your precious little pets after! I totally think that is so sad the PB ordered this to happen in your ex cult. The cult I came from:JWs has several times tried to imply that Pets don’t deserve our attention, and even hinting we should not get “emotional with them” or something like that! I found Awake Magazine articles in 1975, and newer ones saying this! I’m so glad they didn’t ban them, but I fear they might. They said “everyone should be ready to obey the elders even if it doesn’t appear to make sense in a human standpoint. Obey as if our life depends on it, because IT DOES” they said several times since a Watchtower magazine in 2013! They said it in a convention last month or so! Yes, these cults are getting more and more tyrannical! I had an elder’s wife tell me I shouldn’t get too attached to my pets.”
I cannot imagine things without them!

My Mum and grandmother were really afraid of cats. That’s what I thought anyway. It wasn’t until I was much older that I realized the fear was about becoming attached to them. The moment two of my uncles left they bought a beautiful puppy. She brought so much joy to the lives of others. How sad that they missed out on the opportunity to experience the love of and for a pet throughout their childhoods.
